I totally agree that DF is the best mmorp on the market, but wich type of audience will agree? We sound stupid with our claim while the others laugh at our game while playing those carebears game like wow.
Eq1, Eq2, Vanguard, Potbs, SWG, Lotro, AoC, War( HA!), any other indie or main stream mmo ever developed pretty much.
I haven't played all of those games, but more than a couple. Call it what you will, running erratically, whatever, but i find the mobs in DF much more difficult, and enjoyable
Single pulling a mob thats clearly "talking" to another mob in a Warhammer PQ, and have him dead before he even gets to you, would hardly be classified as intelligent AI.
I can with certainty say the mobs i have (so far) seen in DF will switch to ranged if you try and kite them. Theres a plethora of MMOs on the market that if its a melee mob, thats it, it will not attack you from range. That one single aspect, in of itself brought a smile to my face. Will they every time? i'm not certain, but i will keep an eye out from now on. I love that they switch back and forth however.
Is it the best PvE on the market? No, probably not, but i find it more enjoyable than most.

How's this? I agree that it is the best for you.
At least you've got a game. ANY game. Hardcore PvE folks are SOL.
I looked at that OP video and it didn't look too bad. Dated graphics... sure. So what? You having fun? That's the deal.
It did kind of look like a History Channel review of mmos though.
Yup, me too. All I needed to know, is stated right there.
It's funny....every....single....time....that I have considered DFO in any serious sense, without fail, someone that is actually playing the game, says something to let me know that there's really no point in even thinking about it.
I miss Ultima Online in it's original form, but not enough to play with people that simply are constitutionally INCAPABLE of discussing the game they play, without knocking some other game, or other gamers. It just has an appearance of complete immaturity. And the fact that they don't seem to REALIZE this....is all the "warning" I need.

I can understand where you're coming from. But to be frank, if I selected which games to try based on what folks around here spout, I'd most likely never have made this post let alone be playing any mmo at all.

WoW sucks DF is for pros :P
Get it up ya.
This is a perfect illustration of my point. Thank you.
While I might very well agree with you, to a point (I think the word "pros" is taking it a bit laughably far)....is it necessary to say that to MAKE your point?
See, if you have to rely on cutting something else down to make a point for how good another thing is....it pretty much leaves the argument a little suspect, in my opinion. Your argument should be able to stand on the merits of the game itself, and not require pointing out faults elsewhere. That is....IF your argument has validity and your facts have integrity.
The fact that some DFO players seem unable to argue the value of their game without pointing out negativity in other games, makes me think that your argument is inherently weak, and must need this extra reinforcement. It's not a very good debate tactic, to be honest. And while certainly used in politics, sales and advertising....I think most people have learned to see beyond smear tactics.
P.S.: " :P " doesn't always mean "just kidding," sometimes it means, "I'm totally dead fkin' serious, but I'm going to pretend like I'm not so I don't get flamed as badly." On the other hand...." :P " might be used to denote sarcasm, and if that is the case here, let me rephrase my post and just say.....

ROFLMAO! That was funny!
It's not really important if he knew he was making a joke. I knew it when I read it.
In my opinion it needs a lot of work still. I don't think it is the best. I gave it a shot and I will try it again in six months. Just replace the word 'skill' in this game with 'leveling' and it really is the same thing; I don't know how people are unable to come to terms with that. Skills = leveling in this game. Not saying that is a bad game. Like Fallen Earth, tons of potential but it still needs some time.
And what kind of "work" does it need? Too many people throw that term out there with no backing or basis. I feel (especially after the Conquer the Seas patchspansion) that there is little they could add but more fluff and social aspect. Again, not flaming or insulting here but I think you should post a basis for your claim?

I totally agree with you. The few things I would do to improve the game is:
1) Local banking, or at the very least make it so enemies cannot use your bank.
2) Warhaulks unspawnable unless it's at a foundry.
3) Ships unspawnable unless at a harbour.
4) State gain increase for the lower levels up to a certain point.
5) A percent chance like steedgrass (but more rare) for rare ore on regular nodes.
6) Chat bubble option.
All I can think of now off the top of my head.
A lot of people would say should be skill restrictions and caps. I disagree and like AV's approach thus far with the specializations and I'm sure we will be seeing a lot more examples of such.
