Woooo~~~!!! God! FFXIV I been waiten for this game sense 2004 when I KNEW THEY were going to follow up on the MMO world gamming. I didn't think it would be a FF series game. BUT I am glad it is! I remember when they stated in a stock holder meeting they gave out the impression where they were putting the money. Just the way they were not trying to give out info to keep it a secret. You could tell it was a huge project. I wouldn't be surprised if this project wasn't no small task. Something like most MMO's that are free still cost a good half million to make. A game with graphics like this game. I would say they sunk 15-30 million into FFXIV and probly more. Saving cost cutting techniques like they did to make the new Story!! <--- Secret to saving money to redistrabute it else where. Is going to be a Key to how big this game will be. I know this game will be like nothing the MMO world has yet seen. I pretty much use psychology & logic. To the clues they have given out. And I have to say I feel like I'm already playing FFXIV.
I personally feel like they will do a early release on the game. A game that will make its dead line. Around Nov. or Dec of 2010. But, with a game of this magnatude they will make sure the game is functional but wont have all the content they want in it yet. Witch well be introduced in patches of the game. Like I said HUGE GAME! With WoW 2 comming out some time behind it they are really making sure they can keep a long term fan base. With all this on there shoulders. I know they will push the project to its limits. I mean wouldn't you with a 115 million a month income riding on a bet to take the top spot? I wouldn't cut corners to take the top spot of that income pot! Seriously they are gunning for not just the top spot currently, but for the next 6 years of the MMO universe.

You should have posted this on the FFXIV forums instead.
I posted it EVERYWHERE!!!!!!! I !!! COULD !!!! THINK!!!!! OFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!
XD
You kidder you.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

True. The only topics that belong in General Discussion are sandbox vs. theme park, hardcore vs. casual, camp vs. quests, and RL men playing as in-game women/women avatars wearing skimpy clothing is wrong

Viral advertisement of FFXIV much?
I think we have another contender for least informed post. There is going to be no "WoW2." It's a completely original IP, which have crushed my hopes of an MMO based on the Lost Vikings IP (lol xD).

i just hope the shitty casual/solo players don't ruin it like they do almost every other MMO out there.
Well I've just been informed it'll be more accessible to solo players than FFXI so you may be s.o.l.

From what I have heard about FFXI(Edit: I retarded out there), you could barely do anything solo so maybe being a little solo friendly doesn't mean much if thats true.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Are you serious? they already made an mmo before FFXVI,
FFXI is an mmo and it out since 2002...
huh.....
again huh.... wow 2?? where do you take your info? and they already kept they fan base with FFXI.
I have really low hopes for a FF MMO, I never heard of one being successful.
And reading their site just makes me want to say FAIL, but that's just me, enjoy your game.
I am actually starting to like wow now, not because of the gameplay, because it is basically consuming all these crappy games I don't like. Good riddance, I am so picky ;p.
While I personally cannot stand the FF genre, I'm not sure you could say FFXI wasn't successful. Unless you're comparing it to WoW subs, but even though I'm not a fan of FFXI it has done fairly well in the mmo market.

Other than Aion and WoW, I'm pretty sure it has the highest number of subscribers at the moment, dwarfing EvE by 200k, I hear.

Now now, you have to admit FFXIV is so far the "newest" hope of doing something different from what most fantasy MMOs are doing today. I know its still way too early for anything to be set in stone, but it's Square, they usually do what they say they set out to do.

Lol, I was talking about his post and lack of correct information, not FFXIV. xD

I'm kind of saddened by the people who "can't stand FF/Square/etc.". While their offline franchise may suffer from rabid fanboys, overused love themes and linear gameplay, that is not the case in their online counterparts, which are actually in many ways similar to any other MMO out there.
The things you might hate about the serie are not as apparent in the online game(s) so I seriously recommend everyone to put their prejudice towards the company aside and test the game. You might be surprised at what you'll see.
I can't speak for others but I did do the trial run for FFXI. It did nothing for me and I wan't impressed. I do agree with you that you should try it out for yourself rather than jump to conclusions but can't say I enjoyed my experience. Hell, I plan on even checking out FFXIV when it comes out although I don't have the highest of hopes. You never know though so I'm willing to give anything a shot.
Only time you should assume it's going to be crap is if it's an mmorpg run by Funcom >_>

Well yeah, I wouldn't be impressed by an 8 year old game either. I was talking about XIV more than anything, which learns from XI's mistakes and improves on it's successes. I'm fairly sure all of the issues you might have had with the game have already been announced to have been taken care of in the sequel.
And I'll assume your issues didn't include cliché love story, female villain disguised as male, linear gameplay nor rabid fanboys, which are usually the main reason for someone to "hate Square/FF"?
No, outside of the FF series there are some Squaresoft games I rather enjoyed. My main problem with the single player FF games is I just could never get into the world those games offered for immersion nor the story lines.
As for the mmorpg? I didn't really have issues per se besides how awkward the ui seemed to me. It wasn't so much that I had issues it was more it didn't grab me - if that makes any sense. I didn't hate the game and frankly I really didn't play it long enough to have any complaints. It just wasn't for me I suppose.
It's funny you mention how old it was because I will say the one thing that did stand out to me were the graphics considering how long ago the game came out and it was an mmorpg. I was actually impressed with those considering the game's age.

I hated the asinine controls (i don't give a damn if it was originally designed around a f'ing ps2, if i wanted a ps2 feel, I'd play it on a ps2 not a PC), learning curve of dependency on skillchaining, the horrible PlayOnline crap, and fighting crabs in FFXI.
So long as these things are absent in FFXIV I will probably even "pre-order" it, and I haven't pre-ordered a game since Tabula Rasa and Hellgate: London at the same time.

I'm surprised you aren't scarred for life from that one - two punch to the gut.

Those are all valid complaints about the game indeed, and not the only ones either. SE's first venture to the MMORPG subgenre wasn't quite as successful as it could have been, but none of the issues are really not a reason to hate Square or their games. That's why everyone should have an open mind regarding this game, even though it has the dreaded "Final Fantasy" title in it.

You would not believe the amount of Preparation-H-H-H I had to use on a daily basis for the level of butthurt I suffered. It's made me bitter and very biased, I guess like most who find salvation here of all places for whatever reason. It's made me wiser about realizing what I really would like in a MMORPG though, and so far from the minor laundry list FFXIV has provided I must admit I am almost... "Hopeful". Like the excitement of being a kid again, waiting for the dawn of Christmas Day so I can run in and open presents-sort of feeling.
IF... I had anything to be irked about, is the recycling of their own Player Character races from FFXI, and just renaming everything. No big deal, but kinda makes one go "Wow... couldn't go the extra mile, eh?" However, if it's a sacrifice of visual change, for mechanics change... I'll go with gameplay structure any day over lens flare eye candy.
