"We’re pleased to announce the launch of the free Champions Online demo!
Starting today, new players can create an account and play the beginning zone of Champions Online for as long as they want, completely free of charge.
The Champions Online demo offers unlimited playtime in the game’s first zone (Millennium City under alien attack), two character slots, and the ability to play up to level 15. Meet other Champions and help save Millennium City from a Qularr invasion.
Players who choose to continue playing past the first zone and level 15 cap by purchasing the full game will have their restrictions lifted and will gain immediate access to the rest of the Champions Online universe."

The bigger picture on the demo: it takes place in a representatively polished tutorial that is meant to last until lvl 8 or so at the most. Last time I checked (recently) you cannot get new skills in the tutorial, so it is really just a quest chain that takes 30-60 minutes. It also includes the char creator which can be hours of fun (or minutes for some), and everything you do in the demo (costumes, lvl ups, perks, etc) transfers into the full game if you buy it.
This is not comparable to Warhammer's endless demo, as here Cryptic only give you access to the first 30-60 minutes of CO content in this demo (and no pvp in that tutorial either).
Cryptic is trying a Customer Development approach to MMO creation.
This is a great Idea for them. More games should add this to there games.
It's the crappiest demo I've ever done. I was on the fence about this game and after the demo, I'm still on the fence because it only demonstrated the character builder, which I already knew would be great. After doing all of the quest, I was at level 6.
You get to use 2 basic powers and no travel powers (no flying, leaping etc.)
Is there any crafting?, I wouldn't know. As a player that likes to craft things I didn't get to demo any and I don't see a need for it in this game.
Maybe I'll wait until they decide to charge less then $20.00 for the box, then I might try it.
I agree with you 100% the demo is crap. Only thing I can do is offer you a referrel key. I think with that you can get out of the demo area. If you would like one, PM me an email address and I'll gladly send one off to you.
If you're done trying, best of luck to you in finding a fun game.
