ok so i loved anarchy online a couple years back. i like interacting with people and hanging out, going on big missions with a massive group etc. i loved SWG when it came out. id be running throught the dessert and just come across a camp fire. i'd stop and just chat for 20 mins and head on in my quest. then anchorhead, the rebel stronghold, was constantly under attack from imperial forces. the whole town would lock and load and there would be great firefights. then i left it for a while, came back after 6 months, and they had all these player cities, which pushed everyone into the desert. towns were empty. evryone i found were just hellbent on 'levelling' not pvp anymore. i also played planetside, but left after a while...very repetitive but a great game. so my question is, what now? what should i try out? im trying eve online, but i dont think thats my thing. i tried EQ but didnt like the graphics...i like the whole social aspect of an MMORPG. any recommendations>? WOW, EQ2....?

I guess the best suggestion I could give, would be to try it yourself and see. You could try WoW when open beta opens monday. As for EQ2.. you'd have to buy it I guess.
Lots of people are asking this question on this forum, you could try looking over the first pages and see what they get suggested too.. but it's still not an easy question, and there is no real answers but to try for yourself.
But if what you are looking for is some kind of opinions from mmorpg.com community, I'm sure you guessed it, my vote goes to WoW.
I played Asheron's Call back in the day. Haven't been playing MMORPG for over 3 years. Finally got DSL at my current house and I'm looking to try one.
I'm downloading Vandetta Online right now because it has a free trial.
Anyone else know of any free trial games?
I was in WoW beta and I agreed with a lot of the posts I have read thus far. The ones that thought it was just ok. They said it's easy to lvl...too easy. I was level 10 in no time at all. I think it was only a couple hours. Not good imho. I got in the beta the day before they ended it so I couldn't go any further than lvl 10. The game definetly seemed like it was geared towards a younger crowd though. The only thing I can see keeping a lot of people attracted to this game is the PvP. I don't PvP at all though so this is of no interest to me. The graphics are ok. Nothing special there. I can't really say much else, it was fun to play for the short time.
As for EQ2, I haven't played the beta yet. I read a lot about it though. It's hard to say anything good or bad about it. The graphics look really great. From what I hear it takes a long time to level, which in my opinion is good for longevity. There were a lot of complaints the last few months about EQ2, but a lot of the complaints and issues have been resolved or answered by SOE developers in recent weeks. My friend is in beta and she says it runs just as stable as WoW. She is leaning towards WoW right now, but only because she loves PvP. That's about it.
That's my two cents on those two games.
well I'm HOPING the people will be more freaking sociable in Everquest 2.
Geez... people only get together to do quests that MUST be done in groups (coughOrcQuestcough).
I mean I'm playing the beta, I'm trying to be nice to people and no... they don't have time... busy grinding... sheesh... don't they realize they won't even be playing that character anymore once the game is out?
That's the problem with games were all you can do is grind. EQ2 is all about that.
And that's another reason why I love DaoC... the game is 2 years old, not everyone is grinding anymore. Most veteran players log to RvR, help out the newbies or just socialize.

its crazy, you wake up, and WALK AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER!
Then, you meet REAL friends who you can chat with on the PHONE! or even <gasp> with your freaking vocal chords.
Its great. There is an extremely indepth JOB system where you can actually GO TO WORK and earn a living.
The best part is you get to do three things you can never do while playing a MMORPG.
1. Earn RL Experience (its crazy, just stick with me). This EXP is l33t yo. You can gain alot at SCHOOL! or out with friends. With your EXP you can get better jobs and even MOVE OUT OF YOUR MOTHERS BASEMENT!
2. Gain popularity points! These are great and you can only get them if you LEAVE THE BASEMENT! Friends and coworkers give you these! The more you hang out and get to know them, the more you get! Its so easy!
3. S E X! Yes, losers...You too can stop pretending on message boards and start having sex in real life.
But hey, I guess I shoud concider my audience before I make a post. Go back to sitting in that chair for 40 hours a week. Don't let someone like me get in your way.
Seriously games are fun, but from your post topic alone, you are suggesting you NEED a game to get along with life. Its just a game, and if you cannot figure out the rest then sit back down in your chair. You shouldn't ever need one. You should never crave one. I will never come back to this thread and only want to help. Bye.
..and another world traveler like me , who just asked what i asked yesterday . I was out of gaming too , for 4 years .
Orcc told me about eve online . And since he is such a nice guy and has an arnold schvarzy pic ill listen to him .
As about people-s judgements , yes they judge others way too easy. Thats what they teach us in the psychology university of zurig ..switzerland...
its nice to be in the rp world again

I suggest getting into DAoC. It's got the best system out there and the company does everything it can to listen to its customers. The new expansion due out in December will make the graphics on par (if not better) than anything new out there.
DAoC-
Optional and fun PvP
Excellent under-control economy
Fun progression system
Player crafting is necessary (almost manditory)
Player housing
Incentives for underpopulated realms/servers
