Looking at the video (the fat mob) and at the screenshots, this game scream WoW
Yeah, the cgi trailer is very "WotLK"ish.
But, didn't "WoW scream Everquest" at one point?
There's no getting around "the 800 pound gorilla in the room", whatever's "new" is (inevitably) compared to the "ststus quo", but as a retired lvl80, I can tell you that WoW isn't the "be all, end all", either. It's all a matter of tastes, I suppose. Nobody has "the ideal mmo for everyone", and all we can hope game designers do is "copy what works, delete what doesn't, and try expanding along the way. "
ok!long loading time for their video page aside(probably very big ,still loading!)im not so sure it cant be pulled off!
just with 64 bit and ms donnybrook they could have a game like they plan .and for those naysayer if your patient with their website.(probably because amrica is on the other side of the globe lol.)check out the stuf in there ,not sure if i understood correctly but forgive me if i dont speak chinese but the fact is you dont bring a huge website like that online just for the fun of it
and it is so well done and all i just cant wait for this game to be online.if those devlopper arent to hasty i might even have time to learn enough chinese to play this game
I find it amusing that when a game looks like every other game people complain that it isn't innovative enough but when a company is ambitious people automatically assume that its doomed to fail. The tentative name in the US is "Forsaken World" no s. The first crowd of super secret first string beta players should be getting a closer look at it later this week but still its too early in production to gauge it based upon what one is able to see in the very limited beta phase it will be entering into soon. If Perfect World pulls it off this game will be a detailed world where you can live a full, rich fantasy experience including complex mix of merchant, mercenary & community. I really hope they pull it off because it would be awesome.
hell why prefect world try to translate their title mmo is beyond me .they should just write what the wording is but in english like
the chinese guy say the word and an english guy write down what he understand lol.way simpler and often way better title then lame title they often come up with
just in case you wondered about perfect world (the comany)it is scheduled for a 2010 release .so basicly they aim it a direct competitor of blizzard release.mm!i got to say im impressed!world wide release no wonder they are hiring and also took their might to focus on this title.anyway we ll see how things goes .but if last update that were implemented in pwi are any indication
this title might surprise a lot of company and gamer alike.
I think it's too early to judge this game. If, and I shall say this with a good portion of skepticism, if they can deliver what they promised, then this could become a good game, I think. Who hasn't wished for an interactive world? We will see how this turns out to be, a disappointment or a hit. I shall be watching closely and judge for myself if I will like this game or not.
Yes, the Shenmo.wanmei website is all there is, atm. It's impressive to be sure. The US/EU version will be along later, whereas Perfect World Entertainment is , atm, focusing on their current "almost readys", Kung-Foo! and Battle of Immortals. I've exchanged emails with PWE's Social Media Director, and the one word answer is "patience".
I predict that when the smoke clears from that, we'll be hearing a LOT more. And I, for one, will be glad to be generally rid of Google Translate.
Guess I'm lucky PWE's marketing manager emailed me some weeks back... Hehe. Just look out for the PWE website once Kung Foo! and BoI are in commercial status...
lol i read your translation!so basicly this means no more mindless killing with the AI of this game lol.nice men the more you translate the more i love this game
Yeah I have a suggestion that comes in the form of a question. Why do all Asian based MMO's seem to look like action fighting games? The absurd, oversized weapons and the scantly clad females get old after awhile. Plus the game play seems like it is just one round of Tekken after another. If I wished to play a fighting game I'll fire up my PS3 or Xbox 360 and have it. God am I the only one that is just so discouraged every time one of these Asian based fighting MMO's hits the market and calls itself an MMORPG?
It's what they're into in Asia, it's how most of their games look and feel. Just like most Asian games have large numbers and text that splashes your screen when ever you make contact with a target. That's what they like to see in their games I guess.

grin !in fact 10 can become gods!but it sound easier said then done, they hired various specialist of the mind how people react etc to make an AI that is a bitch!when i say a bitch it will be way too smart for its own good ,but i bet player in english speaking country will love this feature(aside from america naturally since its a f2p game .lol!they wouldnt want to be seen spending money in those their friends will laugh at them .joke aside if they dont lauch too late they might have more player then wow before the end of the year
Other players become gods and I get to worship them. Put me down for one "no."
and whats so bad about having a pantheon of 10 player gods?
Because online game worlds do not regulate themselves. Garriott made the same mistake in UO believing that the players would create a counter against the free-PK system by making vigilante groups and self-policing the server. He was wrong.
I can understand where the concern for abuse can come from. Most ambitious people who vie for those sorts of positions aren't saints, if you get my drift.
PWB hired 2 professors from Princeton University to instruct their 40 man team on subjects like Psychology and Philosophy , to be applied towards their Game Theory.. What? Does this mean we're likely to see a greater level of A.I. than seen before? Seems so.
From the text, concerning the Lost Lighthouse quest line:
"near the lighthouse, the blocking BOSS Charles and Catherine is a pair of lovers, the player must also face both of them. In the course of the fighting, they will play according to the player's corresponding to different tactics, but also the exchange between them. Players have seen their dialogue, there must be a kind of illusion and reality fighting. … Final BOSS Lighthouse Pirate King Keane, of course is not stupid, shameless cunning of his players often use various means to weaken the ability, when he thinks he can not stand, but also calling for younger brother to do help, and direct them to an organized attack on the player ... ."
So, a 'crab' will act different than a 'bear'? a Kobold has different attack strategies than a Naga? NPC's will co-ordinate their attacks, not only relative to the player's actions, but each other's, as well?
Smart enemies...that will be fun...(and potentially frustrating for non-strategic thinkers). Could this be the end of "wash, rinse, repeat" cycling of your skill cool-downs? If this is all they're saying, then no two battles will be truly alike.

But, IF the "godly" Power comes from people who choose to worship the aforementioned person and IF the so called "godly powers" ARE limited to his realm of influence, it would give quite an interesting perspective into the game.
So, If one actually wants the power, he should earn it.

Therein lies the debacle. People like them tend to run in groups, guilds, very big ones. With the help of his own guild (who, under assumption, would also be fairly well-equipped and just as ambitious as he is), it wouldn't really be a problem to obtain godhood.
I think the problem is pretty much in favoritism with the system. If the entirety of the pantheon is filled with players from the same guild, it could give them an unprecedented advantage over others.

I pretty much agree here. I'm a 40-year old male and I enjoy a scantily clad female as much as the next guy, but the style and gameplay of the Asian MMOs seems to be as overused and repetitive as the orcs-n-elves crap is in the West.
Can I have some armor on my female characters? Trust me, a woman can still look badass in a full suit of armor. It's as if there is some actual rule about AC and Coverage in female armor, but honestly a decent set of armor isn'tentirelyimpossible.
Why does my mage, regardless of gender always have to have a skirt and a book?
Why does my female cleric need to be almost naked?
Why does my weapon always have to be twice the size of my character?
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

Same here, though I tend to prefer the style in the more action-oriented Asian MMOs. Gameplay, however, well, to each his own. I don't particularly like Western MMOs because I find their skill animations to be particularly lacking on eye candy. The whole "giant weapon" issue is something I usually overlook, usually it's the aesthetics of a weapon that draw my attention, not the size. :P
I also wholeheartedly agree with you on female armor. A full-plate wearing female warrior with a sword and shield says thousand of words more than a scantily-clad one.
