General: 2009 Editorial Award Nominations

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

It’s that time of year again, and the editorial staff here at MMORPG.com has narrowed their choices for the editorial awards down to six nominated games per category. In January, we will announce the winners.

Every time the Earth travels around the sun, MMORPG.com holds awards to look back at the year that was. This year, we're going to be giving out Editor's Choice Awards to ring in the New Year, with a robust Reader's Choice Awards to follow later in 2010.

The winners of this year's contest will be announced in the first week of January.

Our categories are fairly straightforward, and the nominees have been chosen by the editorial staff here at the site.

The categories for the 2009 MMORPG.com Editorial Awards are:

You seem to have left out Eve-Online.

    What about EVE Online?

     Very cool stuff indeed!!

Best Game of 2009: Aion hands down, IMO

Most Improved: Well since you didn't have COH there (they have added lots of new features and great issues in 2009) I would say DDO!

Most Anticipated: 2010 is going to be SOME KIND OF YEAR for MMOs! 2009 may have been a let down but 2010! Wooooo... just having Guild Wars 2, STO and TOR (and yes I fully expect TOR to come out in 2010) taking up all our free time??? Could be one for the record books! Can't wait!!!

Most Improved AoC for sure, looking forward to GW2 / STO

I would have put CoH in the "Most Improved" category as well. But the editors here at MMORPG.com seem to forget that game exists.

I would have voted fof CoH as most improved as well.

They have added a lot of new features, and the power customization is something the players have been asking for for years.

Hmm, it seems there are a lot of choices missing in every category. I don't play CoH, but the feature that enables players to make their own missions seems a pretty huge improvement to me.

Also, i would like to see an option with every category to deny the award. I also don't understand why you are making the distinction between F2P and P2P. Mr Aioshi has been writing for several months that F2P is up there with the P2P titles and you are just ignoring that with the extra category. Either a game is good or it's not. Regardless of payment method.

I've got to agree with this. EvE has really grown up and continues to attract new players while updating their game to keep it relevant.

Also, it seems the "2009 Game of the Year" could be relabeled "2009 Fantasy Game of the Year". Whether or not EvE should have made the list or not, it would have been nice to see something else from the MMORPG umbrella on the list.

Just remember to put in a "none of the above" option when the Reader's Choice article comes out!  :)

if i'm not mistaken this is labeled "editorial award nominations"

that means "their" choices, not "yours"

    Hey all,

My mistake, but there was one left off of the Game of the Year page. I missed EVE. it was intended to be there, but I somehow missed it. The category now properly has five nominees.

Exactly. I think they've given up on player nominations...

OMG most improved game of 2009 Lord of the rings online.

What dope have you guys been smoking.  Quality suffered for 9 month of the year as the ran around fixing stuff from moria.

    Most improved, I think not.

Yes they should let us have a vote I realize that this is their choice but when you looked at how they voted seams to me there is something driving their decisions, one has to wonder.

'Most innovative game of 2009' this should be also added to show developers that people are really interested in looking for something fresh.

Other than that: EVE online best game, Darkfall best new game 2009 (but will most likely loose to Aion cause of too many carebears wondering around). That's my wishful thinking though :/

  • mercesamercesa Member Posts: 23

All points Bulletin ANYONE ?  Seriously it looks like a badass MMO but no one seems to talk about it..

    Darkfall "best new game"??

I'd ask if you are joking, but your remark about CareBears says it all... Aion will likely get the nod. Even though I don't care for it, its WAY out of Darkfalls league in many, many aspects.

most improved in my mind is DnD.

Best game...pretty shit year all round...i'd vote for Champions online as Aion was a let down and Darkfall is not mainstream enough (thought still a decent game).

most anticipated will most likely be Star wars.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Most Improved Game of 2009 also has only 4 nominees. Is it possible you left out City of Heroes by mistake?

Most Improved Game: Age of Conan without a doubt.

Age of Conan is by far the most improved game of 2009.  With the features they've added and the features that they've promised to add in future updates, it is in my opinion the best MMO out right now.

You seem to have not looked through all the categories very thoroughly.....

Edit: NVM, I see where Stradden said he later added it due to an oversight.

Unless one plays all these games on the list, it's difficult to judge any of it. The only category that seems open to general discussion is the most anticipated game.  That has to be either STO or SW:TOR.  Personally, information on STO has led to less than appealing reactions from me.  SW:TOR on the other hand seems to have its house in order, and I am looking forward to it -- however, do we know it will be released in 2010?

Most improved: Age of Conan- it went from pretty much a disaster to a pretty good game. An impressive turn-around.
