Didn't know Darkfall was a religion. Also didn't know anyone who was stupid enough to call Tasos a "god" until now, gg.

Plus, an english subtitle would be awesome.

I would have preferred it in English, but I'll take any Tasos I can get tbh.

Merry Christmas to Tasos and the Whole Aventurine crew! Keep up the good work!

Next time especially for you I will put any sarcastic statements in italic.

A comment from Darkfall's forum by one of Greek players:

"Well, the body of the interview can be accurately be summarised to "A VERY fanboish description of Darkfall" (often out of touch with reality).

The only useful information I could salvage amongst the idealized imagery and the actual noise was the statement that the progress of the game (the inital boom of subs leading to a deflation and then to a slow but steady inflation as the game improves) is going according to the initial plan.

Also worth mentioning is the bold statement that the majority of serious PVP clans from older games are currently playing Darkfall.

    That's about it.

Edit: In an attempt to convey the content of the interview a little better I shall propose the following experiment.

Try to remember how Darkfall looked like in your head the first time you read its feature list.

    Ok?

That's the Darkfall Tasos is describing.

How close that game is to the actual Darkfall is something I leave to your judgement."

This is indeed a very broad and outlandish statement. Reminds me of the good ole Tasos we all loved to hate. Interesting to see that it's still down there, at least in least publicized material.

I am being quoted without my knowledge .

Anyway, I was bored so I translated the whole thing here.

Don't  think his description is too way off  and he even admits a drop in subs after the initial rush.

I would call it a enthusiastic description and because i am still excited about DF myself i find me agreeing about nearly everything with Tasos. Also need to consider he describes DF mostly in competition to WoW and WoW clones that meakes like 95% of the market if he says "in other games".

    Thanks for the translation.

Unfortunately, it is full of half-truths and exaggerations that one has come to expect from Anastasios Flamouras.

I understand that it is "tasos'" job to promote Darkfall in the best light, but after almost a year, he should really evaluate his strategy, after all, the game is released.

"From the first day you may join a fight and you will make a small difference. You don't wait (grind) in order to play later. Because when you hear "I don't like the game now, but later, in 20 levels I will be able to go there, which is better" and 20 levels later you go there and it's not better, but 20 levels after that it will be better. For how long can this stupidity last for buddy? In this game you can do everything from the beginning." - quote from translation linked

This is one of the items from the interview that stood out to me. While in theory, this statement has some truth to it, it is by no stretch of the truth an accurate description.

All in all, the interview is just "business as usual" for "Tasos". Hard to tell if the interviewer is just a fan or not, but I will lean toward fan.

the one thing I did take away from the video, is that I figured out how to keep the God-King quite, just tie his hands together!

This is the absolute truth and the thing I like the best about Darkfall.  Day one I joined up with a guild and I helped in a big battle.  An enemy came after me and I blocked with a shield while a buddy shot him from behind.  So he takes off on a mount and I archery down his mount and the two of us killed him.  What other game in the market allows for that right now?

I can head off in any direction with anyone and attempt to do anything.  The game doesn't restrict me.

It's not a lie to say that serious PvP clans play DF.

It's just statement taken out of context: Serious PvP clans tried DF, left because it wasn't that great, and eventually returned to DF, because other MMOs were even worse for competitive, serious PvP, and playing on free UO shards eventually got old.

No matter how you many faults you may find in DF, at least it's servers are online, lag in medium scale PvP is tolerable and player skills matter.

Not really. I just figured I would throw that in for posterity, considering that most probably think that Tasos is his given name.

Not sure why that seemed to bother you, but if it's worth extra credit, I'll take it.

P.S. Also, I feel it is worthy to point out that the "God Tasos" is, in reality, a mere mortal man.

My point was the fact that it is usually like going to kill a bear with a switch. Sure, you aren't restricted from joining, and you may actually do some damage, but your overall contribution is going to be minimal.

That is until you "grind" up to a decent level.

I totally agree.   Good thing Tasos speaks the truth.  P.S. Darkfall is the best game on the market.

True, though I'd say your char can do most things in the beging in DFO whereas you have to do alot of skill training in the begining in EVE to get to the fun stuff. In DFO you can pretty much jump right in and make more of a difference in a non zoned seamless world. In EVE you don't make a difference until alot later and it's heavily zoned (though done better than anyother MMORPG since SWG).

And in DFO you dont need to skill? (choke) Do you read the DFO forums? Half the thread topics have to do with the suscriber base complaining about this very subject...the skill grind.

Please be rational in your comments, frankly you lose cred instantly with this sort of assertion. Please do yourself a favor and log onto the official forums, then come back and post.

Well let me be more specific, from the moment you log in you can ride a mount or craft some sort of gear or weapon or gather anything or use any weapon or wear any armour all you need to do is equip it. There are no gear or weapon restrictions that are pinned to your skill other than having special abilities, otherwise everyone can use them to some degree. I believe that was what Tasos and others were trying to point out as opposed to say EVE where you need to learn the battleship skill before you can pilot it. Whereas in DFO you can use any weapon or vehicle but just not very well.

The topics on the official forums and here are not complaining about skill gain but more about stat gain, skills have already been made quicker to increase much like EVE did. People are complaining it's taking too long to get their stats up, mainly because many believe it will somehow make them better at PvP. Which it won't, it'll just take them longer to die then they'll come back and cry for more changes.

If you think I'm irrational or ill informed please correct me, I'm not above admitting I'm wrong you know.

Let me shed some light as to what Darkfall players mean when they say you can do everything from the beginning.

You can take part in any siege, or for that matter any small or large battle in the game from day 1. You will probably make little difference in the outcome and you might leave the battle 4-shot killed but there is no artificial barrier preventing you from joining it and seeing how it feels like.

You can ride a horse and use it in combat from day 1, no barriers there.

You can take part in a naval battle from day one, you can actually steer ships and use cannons, and in that case you will prove more useful as a cannoneer since using a cannon is not associated with any skill or stat, so you are equally useful as a pro (although not nearly as durable). Same goes for warhulks.

You can join any PVE raid with your clan from day 1. From average mobs, to tough ones to even the Krakens or the flying Fire Dragons. Also you will probably make little difference but much more significant difference than other MMOs.

I'll pull some numbers out of my ass here, but I'm sure they are not too far from the truth:

Let's say that a well equipped pro with good skills and stats deals 50 damage with his bow to the fire dragon. Then a noob with his crappy bow and low skills will deal around 10.  It's still not much but these numbers are orders of magnitude closer to each other than other MMOs. It means that if 20 pros can take down a fire dragon then 100 noobs can achieve the same feat. (I know that the numbers are more complicated than that but the principle still applies). How many other MMOs can boast the same thing? In WoW for example, if 25 pros can take out the Lich King (or whatever mob) then how many 10 level noobs could do it? Probably not even 10000, even if you could put them in the same room which you can't because the raid bosses are instanced.

    Anyway, moving on.

In Darkfall you can explore 90% of Agons surface from day 1, and the rest 10% is there not because of instancing or other artificial restrictions, but because it is guarded by mobs that hit hard. Still if you are good at avoiding them, or somebody else is farming them/keeping them busy then you can explore 100% of the map. And I was referring to land, you can also explore the islands in the sea by swimming, although you'll have to avoid the sharks. Your job will be much easier if you get a raft (rafts are quite cheap, a couple of days work for a 1st week noob) although you will still have to avoid the Kraken.

Also, for the above reasons you can make a perfectly good scout/spy for your clan. The ability to spot enemies and to hide well is not a character skill but a player skill, so no restrictions there either. Sure if you are discovered you will die easily, but scouts are not supposed to be meatshields anyway.

From a clan perspective you can be a diplomat or even a general commanding armies from day 1. There are no character skills associated with talking to, leading or misleading people, only player skills. Although being a 4-shot killable commander on a battlefield may prove a little impractical if you are not careful.

You can also live in your house from day one, if someone gives you a house deed or if you are lucky enough to drop it from a chaos chest.

You can also harvest from any harvesting node in the game if you find it and have the appropriate tool. No more "you need X skill points in Y skill to harvest this" crap.

I'm probably forgetting some things, someone can add them later. My point is that in other games most of these things are either completely impossible or considered end-game and therefore artificially limited by your level or some other restriction.

DISCLAIMER: I am not suggesting you will experience these things from the first day, just that there are no artificial limitations set in the game. And as a matter of fact, if you join a large active clan there are good odds you will get to see most of these within the first week.

On the other hand, saying that you can do everything in this game is also a false statement since apparently you can't be a nuke cycling battlemage, a tank weapon master and a pwner of noobs that is also a master builder/blacksmith/enchanter/shipwright since all of those are associated with skills and stats.

So is Tasos right saying that you can experience everything in the game from day 1? From an FPS perspective probably not. From an MMORPG perspective on the other hand I think he is right on the mark.

its kinda sad the real haters are no longer with us so these viral marketing posts keep popping up from DF players desperate for more players (and attention).

im not willing to take that role on me though, im still interested in the game :)
