Gaming/Hardware Dilemma

Hey guys,

Hoping a few of you can answer a few more questions for me.

As I mentioned in a previous thread...my goal is to play EQ2, but with the system I have atm (P3 866mhz, GeForce4 440) that will not be possible. And until I get some financial stuff straightened out, I don't foresee playing EQ2 until next year.

So I am looking for a "tide-me over"

Let me go over where I've come from:

EQ: great game, had a level 65 character and a few 50+ ones, but after playing for 3 years....B.O.R.I.N.G. nuff said. Will not go back.

DaoC: nother great game. Played off and on...never got a character above level 20. Not really sure why I stopped. Played when it first came out then played again after Shrouded Isles. I am keeping this one as an option open, as Catacombs looks awesome..but can my system handle it?

FFXI: played it for about 3 months, got bored. Just wasn't my thing. Will not go back.

Horizons: Great character models, but game is utter crap. The craft system is great, but the world doesn't intrique and the community is D.E.A.D. Will not go back.

Anarchy Online: Great game. Been playing it since I left EQ earlier this year. As I climbed to level 170 tho, the heckler killing got monotonous, and I found myself having to get on "waiting lists" in Adonis just to get a group. Bad FC for making the higher zones limited to 4 groups! Cancelled account, may go back...but for now it has lost my interest.

City of Heros: Most recent purchase. Decent game, excellent character creation, but there isn't much depth as an MMO to intrigue me. No items, and the killing of thousands of thugs gets monotonous. It is great for casual gaming, but after one mission I am bored as hell and need to log off.

------------------------------------------

Ok with that said and done, here are some games I am looking at.

WoW: Heard nothing but good things. But can my system handle it? The graphics don't look too intense for my system specs, but ya never know.

SWG: I have yet to play swg. My system can handle it. Does it have depth? It seems a lot who have played it don't play it anymore. I do enjoy the sci-fi aspects as enjoyed in AO. Is there a variety of quests/mobs/equipment/items?

Shadowbane: LoL, only $20 to try it out. I heard it's a point and click tho, which I can't stand. Unless the game has changed. The city building aspect is one I haven't yet experienced in an MMO. Again tho, do the quests/mobs/equipment/items keep your interest?

Lineage 2: Heard bad things about it. Looks a lot like FFXI, and I had bad experiences with trying to communicate with other countries. I am thinking this would be a bad choice?

EVE Online: The whole spaceship thing does seem pretty cool, but I don't know how exciting mining ore can be. It doesn't sound too exciting. Maybe I'm wrong?

AC 1 or 2: Never played these games, don't know much about them, if either of them have quests/mobs/equipment/items to keep one interested for a good length of time, I would be willing to check them out.

Those are the games that come to mind atm. Please fill me in if you can on anything that my system might handle that I can enjoy for the next few months. As I repeated a bunch of times already lol, it is the quests/mobs/equipment/items that draw me in. I am leaning at re-installing DaoC, but will get po'd if I can't play the Catacombs expansion. WoW would be my first choice for a "new" mmo, if my system can handle it. SWG would be the "haven't tried it so let's see" choice.

Your opinions, recommendations, experiences will all be vital to my decision. Thank you in advance for your time gamers!

Well, I don't know about the other games. But Lineage 2 will definitely have troubles on your system. Especially in towns with a lot of ppl. I did play Eve Online for a few hours, ran without any problems on my system (athlon 2200, geforce 4TI, 512mb). but I cannot comment on situations with a lot of ppl or graphics...

    Thanks for that info.

I just checked out the WoW site, and unless they change the specs after beta for min reqs for Windows...this looks like the game!

**Will keep my fingers crossed hehe**

At first your post seemed to indicate that you wanted to play EQ2. I'm not sure on how their settings matter but you might be able to play with the lowest possible setting? I guess I can't tell for sure. If I was nice I would start up my old comp and copy over my WoW Beta on there and see if it can handle it. Its an Intel Celeron 1.4Ghz with 512 ram and GeForce 4 440. Would probably be close to you comp... but I'm not that nice so I'm not even sure why I brought it up.... I think you'd be able to handle WoW for sure though. On the graphics level its nothing game breaking so it should run on a machine that can run CoH.

    Have fun gaming! ::::20::

I play WoW with a PIII 800 and a 16mb vid card. You should be able to without too much trouble.

If you want a good space game check out Vendetta Online, if you use the med-low graphics you could easily play it. Twitch style combat is much better then mining, trust me:)

Dont forget bout good old Ultima Online :) If you find a good game shard its still great fun, even with that 2D graphics. Used to play it on my previous comp ( 1,1 celeron 384 RAM, Geforce2 MX440) and even on the machine which i got now ( and which is capable to run any game trust me :) ) i can still enjoy games with old graphics that have CONTENT!
