I am sorry but i have never tried it.The title alone counts me out.I am too old to be into super heroes,i lost my favor for batman and robin and superman years ago.I cannot see a constructive game being built around that comic book atmosphere, just a bunch of PVP comic book characters running around.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
The game is fantastic, cutting-edge combat system and the open build (classless) character progression.
Also, I understand some people don't care for the superhero genre, but I disagree that it is inherently more or less childish then fantasy, sci fi, or any other domain of fiction. To each his own. Specifically, age is not really correlated with genre choice as in "I am too old for the genre." That is like me saying I am too intelligent and logical for the fantasy genre.

The ability to customize your characters' look and gear is the best I've seen. I also liked the travel powers and that great music in the bar/club I ran into. Is it one of the best? I don't think so IMHO.
I enjoy the game for the same reasons given previously. My problem is there are so many mmos...and I can't possibly play them all...or afford them all. I have WOW ..AoC and Champions..which I rotate in and out of subscription...with LOTRO on ..more or less a permanent sub. Champions is my go to game for breaking up the monotony of the other...high and low fantasy mmos that I play. Now ..if TOR and STO can hurry up...so I can add a SCI-FI mmo to the mix.
Champions online is not a well built game. I enjoyed building my character, but thats about it. I usualy give games at least a month to impress me, but this one lasted less than a week before I was turned off. As a previous poster said, to each their own.
I guess "Less than successfull" is a good way to put it.
BoB
I loved City of Villains maybe because it was my first MMO, but because of playing a super hero too. I was really thrilled when I heard that CO will be made by Cryptic.
Then shortly before the release Cryptics information politic about RMT shops alienated my interest in CO. Their behaviour smelled fishy and now that I know how the game evolved I'm happy that I didn't bought it. The low forum activity about the game in the fourm here is not a good sign and for me it proves that CO can't be that "fantastic" as you state for the most other people.
Why didn't you put your opinion in the thread one or two threads below this one "Still the best game around ", if you don't have to say more than this? I don't think that a new threat is needed for one text line of opinion. I believe it should look like a positive advertising for CO if someone comes to the forum to read about the game. If thats the case you should learn from some guys in the Darkfall Forum section, they make every pos shine like gold.

You haven't played the game, but you would probably like CO. It now only retails for $10 and the first month is included.
(1) The RMT boogey man is not even relevant to people who have played the game. I have played the game over 1000 hours with no RMT, and I have lots of disposable cash if I wanted RMT. The RMT in this game are just cosmetic items you can collect like action figures (vanity pets) and extra costume. RMT will not effect your enjoyment of the game, it is cosmetic only.
(2) Just because CO is not popular yet, does not mean it is not a very great new game. CO launched the same time as Aion, and the fantasy genre is larger than superheroes, and the CO did not really handle its PR very well. At least on these forums fantasy genre is very popular, so the negative implosion surrounding Aion created a lot of vile spew about Champions too.
Anyway, I can't change the "majority opinion" on CO if that is how you will make the decision, but as an ex-CoV player you would be remiss not to try CO that improves on CoV in so many ways (the action combat and the classless open build system). At the very least, don't emphasize the word "opinion" in someone elses post without forming your own on the basis of experience instead of hearsay. One opinion from someone who has played the game is worth 10 opinions from people who are just passing on hearsay.

CO had a lot of nice ideas on paper. I guess I'll go down the list n things I've found out to not work out so well for me ingame:
1) 1 Server
I was hoping it would be like EVE Online where you could have no limit to people in the 'world' itself. I also assumed you'd form a group and go into a randomly generated mission like you do in CoX.
This is not so. Instead they have 'zones' and cap them to 100?
IT's not bad but something bout it just didnt feel like a virtual world too me. But I liked the idea of a 1 server world. I loved guild wars & EVE
2) Classless system
I love Classless MMOs. But CO did a strange thing. They make you pick an endurance builder (your first power). And you can only have 1 end builder power. This end power you have to spam over and over and over to build Stamina / Endurance / Mana. So right there I didnt feel like any superhero from Comics. Superman doesnt have to spam punches to do some awesome attack... I dont know of any superhero that works like this
Worst, it creates a Melee vs Ranged atmosphere. Cause if you pick a Melee builder you basically stuck as a close ranged Class. If you pick a ranged one, you are a ranged Class.
So, they really didnt go fully classless. I dont care what the fans of this game would have you to believe its not freeform like EVE, Linkrealms, UO, etc.
So the bad news is if you go with a Melee end builder and walk into PVP arena you gonna get pwned from what I've seen. Nothing you can do to fix it. The Melee end builder itself just makes ya a gimp (pvp wise). In PVE, its awful too. On a team, your ranged teammates have lots of knockback and crap. So mobs will get knocked away and killed before your melee gets in range. And worse, you cant stay in range to build endurance. LOL.
Bad game design yo
3) PVP
Just half implemented. No playable villain side is a real bummer. City of Villains really spoiled me. I liked having access to both factions.
PVPers, most of you will feel like you paying for half of an MMO
4) PVE
You get to fight radiactive hillbillies, robot cowboys, gangsters, animal hybrids, & cowboy ghosts. ugh, nuff said. PVE was very uninspired
5) Balance
Pretty bloody awful. Every other patch contains nerfs and more nerfs. I mean, you could just be a casual player like I was and still got the kicked in the nuts with every patch.
I hate to say it but this game is just kinda bad. The people that play it must just have extremely low standards. The fanboys on this site must be on Cryptic payroll thats gotta be the only explanation. My entire guild (Penny Arcade) like quit CO.

ChampionsFan I don't know why you seem to insist I don't understand CO's build system. You act as if this is not debated daily on the official boards. Melee suckage has been something the community at large has demanded an overhaul of.
Thread #1: Notice how meleers advise never standing still to fully charge an attack. Since fully charging an attack is pretty comical- gives the target plenty of time to run away (unless you used CC to keep it still)
Thread #2: Melee vs ranged
Thread #3: Some poor melee has discovered his gimp-ness. The general advice is to add some ranged attacks like Lunge, etc. Having went this route on my claws, I know their advice will help the poor guy only so much
Thread #4: Look down on 1st page you see a post by 'The_LAst' complaining bout Melee suckiness. The Devs are doing major overhauls of the powersets since they rushed them out in such a poor state
These are all recent threads as of today.
Here is another thread from this site here.
I wish I was making up stuff bout this game but I'm not. It really is in bad shape and I'm aghast these same devs made City of Heroes. In CoV, Brutes were pretty darn pimp. Still not as effective as ranged (corrupters) in sg vs sg pvp. But very nice mechanics. You could queue up your Melee attack. So even if someone ran out of range, you still hit them once attack animation finished. Didnt have to sit still to charge moves. Didnt get knocked around on your back left & right
CO lacks all this
Perhaps the worst mmo of all time right up there with Fallen Earth and spellborne
And yes I have played the game, it started out well , like the way Fallen Earth started and theen went to hell. recently I played Vanguard and noted how much better a game it was then co
I remember when COH came out and played for months alot of fun, usually i hardly ever qroup but with that game made grouping fun they really toook a step backward with co
