Ok let me first say that i beta tested EQ2 for about a month and honestly think i missed something...
First Housing, why is this in EQ2, housing in EQ2 seemed like an afterthought its there but why, after landing in my new city i was forced to get a residence which i guess rent will be payed upon although it was not in effect in beta and then other than quests which forced me to do a few things in house i never visited again.... this house is not the SWG house where you can show individuality, have your own lil place in the world, set up shop etc... its more like an apartment that you share the same address with 3000 other people and the only time your there is when you are afk selling? DID I MISS SOMETHING?
Freeport: Ok SOE created an incredible graphics engine to excite all future game playing public and then stifled it in Freeport by making the scenary dark drab ( to create feeling of evilness) and less than impressive sorry even the sewars on all high graphic setting did nothing for me can they please inrease the day hours in this city so atleast in the commandlands i can get more ooh ahh factor... to show just the opposite visit qeynos and it takes advantage of the graphics engine its like leaving hell for Disney World....
Quests: Brutal should be called chores wait till the fan sites come out to let ya know which quest give items because low lvl quests are only their to get ya to learn zones nothing more more money can be made getting the occasional weapon drops from newbie mobs.... or Did I miss something?
I am not down on Sony and yes i am buying the game but am I a lil let down by the game YES the game does not reach the old feeling EQ brought us till you escape the low lvl cities im not talking lvl 5 im talking lvl 15 when you can journey to Nek forest , when you can begin to explore Fallen Gates, walk near Sand Giants and get a few decent spells or skills.... Sony you have a great and vast new world to discover but why force us to interact with every NPC in the newbie areas before getting us to the areas that made EQ fans fall in love( ie evercrack adiction) with the original.... just my 2c worth

They revamped the housing aspects of the game. I didnt pay lots of attention to it, but i noticed that they made it avaiable to buy real houses not just an apartment and to have it on a diff location and even gave some names to them. First I thought that Freeport was a bit dull, especially after the lovely first island. I havent visited freeport that much at all, instead I was touring the commonlands:)
Quests have been changed too. Now they give much more money and get better rewards too.
Well i agree on freeport it is made to be a slum which rather gave me the view of poverty rather then evil.
Evil = poverty?I think not.I don't mind it been dark but really it feels like you are living in some poverty striken city .
In my opinion I think they did it well
The overseers are rather upset at seeing all the new refugees swarm into their villages. In Freeport, refugees are different than those in Qeynos. The refugees in Freeport tend to be lazy, thoughtless, selfish, rude, brash, evil, pesimestic (sp). The villages outside of Freeport shows this as it tends to look slummy.
A city can have all the money in the world but it'll still look slummy if the residents in that area refuses to take care of it (same holds true for real life cities).
Also, introducing the inn is a good thing because it shows merchants first and foremost where they will be to set up shop. Also, you are not forced to pay rent. If you are not an artisan, then techincally there is no reason to even have an apartment. Just go in there to fuflfill the initial quest and then dont ever come back.
You wont have to pay them anything (unless if you want access in your inn a week later...and 5 s in one week of game play really isn't that bad)
I hope this helps
