Thats BS, thats like saying "If EQ2 didnt use bump mapping it would look like EQlive circa 2002" which would pretty much be true. Also, EQ2 may have the most advanced engine but i personally find it a fairly ugly game, especially the characters. If you think EQ2s characters are photorealistic, you need to get out more and see what people actually look like. Last time i saw people didnt look like plastic dolls.

O and GW's models are suppose to be great? They look like shit to.
ya... that "looks like shit" alright... [/sarcasm]

The key to a successful online game is its customization it's avatar. A toon can look very good and all but eventually that wont mean a thing if everyone else looks the same. In this day and age serious gamers wants to be individuals, not just the generic barbarian or warrior, wizard in the same robe, or thief in leather. Kind of like Gauntlet.
That is a very impressive pic there of GW, and honestly I never played it but how is its customization of toons?
Its customization is lacking, its very easy to pic out someone who looks just like you, but personally i think WoW has the worst character customization. And to Kornster, last time i check EQ2 was the one bragging about photorealistic characters, not GW.
Regardless, GW's graphics are nice indeed and it really doesn't matter much for customization in it since in reality its not a true MMORPG in the purist sense.
Nice eye candy and if you are into PvP and no monthly bill, GW seems like a very good buy.
its only like question do you like WoW or EQ2 graphs.... WoW gots living graphics and EQ2 gots very much pixels in it but its not so tasty... if you understand what im sayin
Best graphics huh? Well, graphics covers a broad range of different categories, different styles such as anime and realistic, character graphics, environmental and world graphics, building and object models, animation, and the list could go on; I don't think any one game can claim the best graphics since it is very subjective. Here are a few different categories that stand out to me though:
Environmental: Dark and Light - No contest
Character: This is a tough one; for anime I'd either go with Lineage 2 or Guild Wars, for realistic I'd probably go with Star Wars Galaxies for now, for cartoonish I'd have to hand the award to World of Warcraft. Mind you, this doesn't take into consideration the animation for each, just the "look".
Objects: For buildings, armours, and other items I'd probably go with EQ2.... though this one is very subjective as well. I'd definitely give honorary mentions to DnL, WoW, DAoC, and many others. It seems like this category is one of the easiest to get right and do a good job on.
Spell Effects: I think DAoC was the first to do a really good job in this category, though there are many others nowadays that are doing equally as good, and often times improving upon them.

ANSWER: the overall of the graphics and the style is your own choice... thats why there is the question.
i like the best style is Korean art... it looks happy
Originally posted by Nytol I really like the look and feel of Guild Wars, aesthetically it is very unique. You can tell it has been put together by some very talented artists and programmers. GW player models were stunning! I wish I could say the same for Everquest 2 but it really lacks a cohesive visual style - It's just a bunch of high resolution photorealistic textures (probably taken from a stock CD from some website) thrown onto some ultra high polygon characters and objects that look and feel cumbersome. Don't get me wrong, piling on the polygons and increasing the texture size can look really good when done right - - for example Doom 3. But games like WoW and Guild Wars ooze quality and manage to run on very low spec machines because the programmers and artists utilise every bit of PC power they can harness and are really talented at implementing features like vertex/pixel shaders. The Guild Wars player models use a much lower polygon count, that rely on raw talent to create, than the EQ2 models but look and feel much much better - also the environment feels consistant. Bottom line is that anyone can make a 3D model with enough training (EQ2) but only a few people can make outstanding models (GW) that harness every trick in the book and make your jaw hit the floor. EQ2 already looks dated and it relies purely on bandwidth throughput (how much information it can push through the bus such) rather than actual hardware features.
So true,
GW as prety awsome graphique and dont need a big computer to run it
my friend was able to play to GW with is P2 400, 256 meg ram ,geforce fx5200(i think)
i cant really comment on EQ2 since i have only seen screen shot but from what i saw it was really high polygone and probably need a big machine to run it.
Why do you think Warhammer Online is still in development?
You do realise that most of the Warhammer Online team left/were made redundant? And that Games Workshop pulled out? Managing Director, Executive Producer, The core team and people responsible for all the screenshots you have seen...all gone...and production has stopped regardless of any press report you have read...it is all BS.
Do you really believe any of the filth Climax spews? They are one of the crappest game developers around.
Warhammer Online is dead, and Climax killed it. One day they might get a publisher and throw it out there to get some money from the shelf sales, but the game is dead...crap...gone. I aint flaming you, I feel for ya because so many people put their faith in that developer but they continue to lie to you.
