Any PSU experts around?

I'm thinking about upgrading my graphics card and the new one I'm getting(HD 4890) supposedly uses a heck load of electricity.

So I was wondering if anyone knows if my Hiper 530W(36A on 12v rails) could support a Core 2 duo E6320, one harddrive, dvd-RW, 2 sticks of RAM, a case fan and the HD4890? My computer is pretty clean and I don't have a lot plugged into it so I was thinking it won't be a problem but then I read a review that recommended people to have at least 550W or more. What do you guys think? My current video card is 8800GTS 320mb btw.

Realistically, I wouldn't expect the 4890 to consume much more than your G80 Geforce 8800GTS does, so yeah, you should be just fine.

Personally I would think you need a 650W PSU to be sure (But I am known to be very careful with things like this, I always use a little extra since I have many HDs) but here is a thread about just this thing I saw on Tome Hardware, it is very helpful: www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261730-10-power-supply-4890-told-fine

It will use more power than your old card. But you can always buy the card first and see it the old PSU works, it is a lot of difference between a good 550W PSU like Corsair and a crappy one.

850? I think that is a bit too much :)

I have a 750W and have a 295 GTX, the single most power using card there is and I had 7 hard-drives jacked in a while, that actually were about what I could get out of 750W because I had to split the hard-drives and GFX card right between the lines or it wouldn't start up.

Only time he would need more than 750W is if he plan to use 2 or more 295 cards at the same time.

A Corsair 650W is enough for the OPs need by far. A 750W Corsair is enough and will also be enough for any monster card he can put in the next few years.
