I've been reading up on the changes and the hype.
I left after 2 months of sub because the game did not really allow my wife and I to play together well.
Grouping was never really required and for leveling up, you lost so much xp it was a waste of time.
If I returned I would most likely be playing solo.
I am curious, have they done anything to make the game more duo or group friendly?
Do most players still solo everything up to 80?
Would I be wasting my time and money?
Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. And never allow thoughts of gain to lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found. The Iron Code"

There is groupcontent but its tailored around groups of 6 - so you have to solo if you dont look for a group or guild to play in.
But why race through the game?
AoC is often so beautyfull and impressive - enjoy the world and the company you give each other and have Fun instead of XP

Yes, you'd be wasting your money/time. Its more of a game for players who like something that looks really good where you can casually walk from place to place and admire the way things look. In between the times spent gazing at the view you spill blood.
Sunset watch.. kill.. waterfall admire.. kill.. mountain gaze.. kill
that is the life of an aoc player. its not really for groups now (there simply isn't the people around to group with)
that said the game won the mmorpg most improved game of 2009 - which can either say something about where it is, or where it was (of course its both, but which one is more than the other )
I think the reason people check back into this forum is not only to see if the game is working anymore but because there is a life lesson from this experience - a lesson that many people had already learned and had tried to warn others about.
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
Me and a friend were playing together, and the leveling process was only about good times. Getting some schmucks to play with us in a group to do group quests and then kill the annoying players was hilarious too. If you left after 2 months, you are coming back to a wholly new game btw.
