True FPS Players, post your opinions here

LienhartLienhart Member UncommonPosts: 662

Alright, any true FPS player (the original ones back when CS1.0 was the shiat) knows that FPS games have been dumbed down since Halo came out. Modern Warefare 2, the most recent FPS for n00bs, is essentially Counter-Strike with aimbot and wallhack. I'm referring to the PS3 version. With the majority of FPS players now on consoles, I'm still pissed off at the fact that I have to use a controller. Then all of a sudden...I saw this game.

There are a few things I'm afraid of though:

1. Is this actually an FPS? From what I've heard, it's 3rd person. This means that everyone will be indirectly wallhacking. As long as we ALL do it, then meh.

2. Is this going to play like Fallout? Long story short, Fallout 3 was NOT an FPS-RPG. It was a frickin' RPG put into first person view with a gun. Bullets would automatically home and do incredibly stupid things. There was no need for precision. Essentially my question is: is a head shot a headshot? I'm pretty sure most original CS players will be damn pissed if the hitboxes in this game are messed up.

3. Are we gonna have numbers popping up above people's heads? I sure as hell hope not.

When beta servers come up, throw all your hate and love for the game here if you were one of the CS players 10 years ago. Especially if you remember how stupidly big "Cal-i" leagues were for your e-peen lol

All I see is a butthurt n00b who got their ass rammed so hard for years on end starting with your child hood by skilled CS players and is now afraid.

And for the record, CS was hacked like crazy before the Steam version came out, even after the Steam version came out there were still a massive load of hacks. But guess what? Sometimes those weren't hackers, they were just THAT good.

l2p and get out =D Don't cry too much in this game =)

I always thought CS was kind of lame. I prefer Quake 2 (action quake in particular) and Team Fortress 2.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

Meh...I play TF2 now mainly. Still trying to unlock Soldier and Demo packs lol. Haven't had the time for them.

I never got into Quake 2 multiplayer, had no internet back then -_-

I did not like anything with Counterstrike.I remember trying it the first time years ago and i was like wtf,i was killed instantly no matter where i went or what i did. This was early in CS release,so i couldn't believe cheating was that bad already.

So i left the game did my usual checking around the internet and what i got was amazing, several scrolling pages of hacks and cheats for CS,i never played the game ever again. The animations were also quite cheesy and game play is not so skilled .Sure it has maps and few options but it is still mainly a point and click game.

My fave FPS combat style is that of UT99,the problem with that game is that net code and latency is such a huge factor.I have never seen so many weird glitches or anomalies in all the other games put together as i have seen in UT.

So it would be nice to see a game come out using DX10,better net code and still have the same feel as UT99.They ruined that game trying to cater to more people with goofy gimmicks and vehicles ect ect. Also they ruined it trying to improve the graphics, they actually made it an eye strain to play, the first cheats were obvious color cheats to make it easier on the eyes.

However the map design and weapon variations are what i am looking for in any FPS game, pretty hard to match UT99 for that but anything close i would be happy with....examples Dodging[NOT matrix crap]and weapon combos.I am not a big fan of powerups, that is the GIMMICK part i don't really like.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Actually yeah, UT was one of my favourites as well. Up until 2k4 it was decent...and 3...

I really don't know what happened to 3, but nobody wanted to play it =/

And, I just found out this game has no headshot hitboxes LOL

Well, unfortunately I was one that did get into CS. Not much anymore, as it just doesn't appeal as much, but it was fun while it lasted. Had some good times. I didn't notice too many hacking incidents in it though. While I did get some, I didn't get many and was able to play without them. I liked the system and feel of it then, but now it just seems way too weird.

Unfortunately - at the same time - I was unable to play UT99. I wish I could have though because I've heard nothing but great comments about it.

I'm really hoping this game will be what I hope it to be. Though, I won't know until I actually get to play it. Let me hope!

Loved CS I still play from time to time for cheap thrills, I used to play in Cal-m leagues with my clan and had a lot of fun for almost 4 years. I actually had my most memorable gaming experience at a CS tournament, a guy was found cheating and they tossed his desktop onto the road breaking it lol.. I'll never forget that image of the guys face while everyone laughed at him.

I've always liked the more "real" approach as opposed to quake/doom/unreal. With that being said if you're expecting this game to be like CS then I wouldn't bother playing, it will be more like quake/unreal. Also although this game is interesting, in my experience fps + mmo never works. Compare Modern warfare 2 and CS to a game like fallen earth if you'd like a good example. With that being said if I get into the beta i'll try the game out, if not then i'll just wait till a trial comes out. I've been burned by to many mmo's to just jump into every single one that comes out.

Also how can you put Halo and COD modern warfare 2 in the same sentence. COD is a lot more like CS and halo is more like quake/unreal etc. I don't understand how any CS player could hate on COD.

Well, personally, I like the feel of CS tons more than Halo. Just a weird feel of Halo. Plus, as I will quote someone else, "It's not that I think Halo is a bad game.. It's the fan base that has made me hate it." IMO, of course.

But I do know that this game will be mostly nothing like CS and more like UT. I did like UT, so I can't say I probably won't try it.

I've been in many MMOs myself. Tons. But, one thing I do like about this is the fact that I don't Have to subscribe if I don't think the game is all that great. But, I don't know.

Simple. You don't need to fucking aim in CoD. That really pisses me off. Remember the term pray and spray? In CS it was headshot or nothing. If you had a decent player that had an instinct to aim for the head vs. a sprayer, guess who'll win?

In CoD, it doesn't matter where you aim, you just spray and stuff falls down. Halo, imo, plays just the same way. The only game REMOTELY close to CS is....well....nothing anymore. I guess developers deemed CS too hard.

Trust me there is aiming in COD, you can spray and pray all you want in it you'll get owned by anyone with decent aim. Its definitely not on the same level as CS but its more like CS than halo/unreal etc.

well, this thread reminds me of why consoles are for kids

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

    @Horribly offended poster above.

Did I even state my opinion regarding headshots? To be honest, I HAVE NO OPINION.

On one side, there is one thing I've always hated about FPS games. I'm VERY competitive in nature, both on games and real life sports. Hell, even when I'm working out I'll try to do more than the person next to me. If they're walking I'll purposely jog at 6.6MPH until they get off (even if it takes longer than an hour) JUST to make them feel bad and myself feel good. So the fact is, if there are no headshots, this game will feel much more casual similar to CoD. I won't have to stress about getting the next headshot or beating myself over the fact that I was 3 pixels away from some dude's head and had to scratch my nose causing me to miss.

On the otherside, well...n00b friendly much? I don't mind relying on tactics but I HATE tactic heavy games. The new instances in WoW (Halls of Refleciton) proved that the average individual is more stupid than a lab test rat. It's apparently too hard for anyone to understand please kill in this order (5,4,3,2,1) and let me use these two skills before you start whacking on the mobs. Nobody listens, everyone dies. Now, last I recall, Global Agenda is PvP...meaning the environment is not static by dynamic. If the majority of players can't understand a kill order + wait before killing then we're screwed. Taking out headshots means that having an INSANELY skillful player CANNOT turn the tides of the battle...which imo, sucks.

In the end, the two opinions cancel each other out so...I don't really care.

Probably because being egotistical, competitive and using the word "n00bs" is what kids do (in his opinion).

No they didn't decide it was to hard lolol.  They decided that when its head shot or nothing you bring out the aim botters in mass "SHOCK"  and due to said cheaters games have gone away from the headshot or nothing mechanic imo.  Personally I'd take TF2 over CS every day of the week and Global Agenda resembles TF2 closer than any other FPS.

  • sonoggisonoggi Member Posts: 1,119

there are no headshots in GA. the mechanic is too easy to master.

and all weapons act as true projectiles, i.e. you dont hit target instantly. you have to take that into account to aim ahead of target. this is the single best solution to prevent hacking. that and running all the calculations through the official server.

so take your CS and go home. im glad i wont have to deal with epeen-stroking teens in my game =)

Shnap. You have to aim ahead of a target? I love it. Lmfao. That's actually an interesting thought to bring it into life.

Just played for five minutes, first impressions.

    1. Character creation, meh. Reminds me of Mass Effect.

    2. Crosshair is funny. It doesn't give me the same feel as Counter-Strike, Modern Warfare, or any other "standard" shooter. I also have a feeling this means lack of proper hit-boxing.

    3. Emphasis on switching weapons. This reminds me of TF2. I have an instinct to switch to melee weapons to either

    a. insult somebody

    b. because it's a better idea (Pyro w/ Axe after setting someone on fire, Soldier on 2fort after rocket jumping to kill snipers because I don't want to reload, a Heavy screaming across a bridge as you sneak up behind him and bat the back of his head).

    4. Jetpacking is NOTHING like Tribes (sigh), but makes the tactical option of retreating into cover much more valid. The movespeed is fast enough that majority of players will not be able to hit somebody jetpacking (not saying I can't, but it's only slightly slower than a rocket jumping soldier which nobody can hit for their life in TF2).

Overall, good first impression. Looks like the posts here were right and they're gonna emphasis on team play and tactics. This means....inhouse pubstomps like DoTA will make people rage quit.

What is it like compared to TF2?
