Some questions about GA - thinking of buying

CammyCammy Member Posts: 864

Hey all,

I have a few questions about Global Agenda as it DOES seem kind of interesting but Im curious how they are going to fit this together. DONT WORRY - Im not asking if it's an MMO/RPG/Shooter, etc. Frankly could care less and I know after just browsing the first page that it'll turn into nothing but a flame war...

So now that's out of the way ;) Questions!

1) I know most of the battles are instanced... Im fine with this. Im curious if there's any "open" world or PVE world to speak of? Or would this be more like Guild Wars - where you have main hubs to interact with people and then go to the "instanced" zones to do battles. I guess Im asking if there's any real world that you can travel with... Im having a hard time trying to figure out how the instanced "victories" translates into their real world of "holding down a certain territory"

2) Ive noticed you're able to get new armor, weapons, etc... how do you come to get these? Do you get them through the PVE portion of the game? Is there an Auction House type setup where you can buy gear/weapons, etc?

3) It seems you have to "aim" in order to hit your enemy with projectiles - which is just awesome IMO... I have watched a lot of the videos from their development team and It seems to be really well done (almost like Halo on steroids lol). Im curious though... are you able to say - leap out of the way after seeing a rocket fly at you? Do you take damage based on how big of an impact it hit? IE: If it hit me dead on - I'm toast... but if I managed to get out of the way a little - Ill only lose half like (for example). Unfortunately the developers don't really talk much about the actual game play outside of the instances

4) What is the difference between the "free to play" and the monthly sub? I looked/compared the list and I just saw the AvA thing (at least that's what stuck out to me)... is there any other reason to sub for a monthly fee?

Anyone who's played... whats your general feeling? I LOVED Guild Wars back in the day because of the great PVP and the fact it was so incredibly balanced. Im very curious if GA will fit a similar style... so any feedback/comments/etc I'd love to hear! Thanks all for your time - hopefully these haven't been asked to death :)

I'll try to answer the questions that I can since its still under NDA on some stuff obviously.  Um armor is for looks only and the method you get it has been tested in various ways.  Inplants give you stat gains and can be created out of stuff you get from both pve and pvp.

You do have to aim there is no auto aim in the game its a third person shooter with jetpacks.  Reminds me if tribes and TF2 had a baby lol.  Scoping will increase damage and there is aoe affects etc.  You do have to account for the time it takes projectiles to connect with the target.

I'll try to address the AVA which is the pay part of the game if you decide to pay.  This would be considered the "open" world of sorts but its a grid and the different battles that are going on at the same time for grid control are instanced away from each other but affect each other if that makes since.  This is where you will see vehicles and be able to build factories for resources etc.  If you choose not to pay you still have access to all the various play modes as the p2p people minus AVA and you will not be at a disadvantage against the pay players at all.

If you enjoyed TF2 or other team based shooters, if you liked guild wars and you like pvp you will likely enjoy the game but I'd say wait til more impressions come out since this is only my experience/opinion.

Thank you kindly for your reply.

So - from what I gather - armor is treated in a similar fashion here compared to say... guild wars? Where armor really means - well - nothing? It seems very interesting and has definitely peaked my interest.

Do you have an "xp bar" per say? Are there levels?

Also - apart from the AvA - is there any other real reason to pay for the sub fees? Im just trying to get a handle on that... if there's no disadvantage - Im not sure why anyone would sub (apart from the massive 60v60 battles I keep hearing about)

One last question for you :) If I were to pre-order... when would I be able to play? Is the "tonight" stuff everyone's talking about what you get access to with a pre-order? Game looks extremely interesting. The instances don't bother me much - I played GW for a long time but honestly the PVE was very lackluster (the PVP was brilliant though) - mainly because everytime I left town  -  the way the game was designed - you never actually "meet" anyone in the real world. Im curious if GA is set up in this fashion

Thanks again for your comments :)

    One word of advice...

Don't preorder it, wait until the NDA is lifted and we can see how the game actually plays.

I haven't got a chance to try AVA yet(its in this test starting today) so I'll have to wait to let you know.  If you preorder yes you would be in the testing now.  But yeah like others have said you can wait and see, I preordered because I have played it tbh.

Edit: yeah you have a xp bar and lvls/skills that unlock as you gain lvls.

Interesting... I've read up more on this and Im very pleased with what I've seen. I may have to pick this up - at least without the sub fee for starters... if it turns out to be really what I like - then Ill jump on the sub's then....

I do have one more question I couldn't find the answer to... is the PvE zones instanced as well? Similiar to Guild Wars or more like say... AoC (I don't want to get into what's "seemless" or done via portal, etc...) more curious if you can ever meet others in area's apart from the main hub.

Yeah the pve is like guild wars where its you and your group assulting a complex.  The higher the security lvl the better the rewards and the tougher the challenge and believe me when I say that hard and up are REALLY hard unless you have a good organized team.

The original GW was kinda like that too though...I remember one mission in particular was rough unless you had a good team. Cant recall the exact one (its been so long since I played) but i know you had a timer and there was assault after assault on your "base" that you had to defend. Was exceptionally fun

Seems GA is very similar to GW - only more of a Halo/Shooter type feel compared to a fantasy style mmo. Nothing wrong with that. GW was the awesome back in the day...
