2010: Games to look forward to

The MMORPG industry is bustling right now, and so many games are in production. With Aion being named  "Best New Game of 2009", it really makes me think if theres anything out there that can compete with all the top mmorpgs out there.

2010 will be a great year for gaming in general. So many great games are scheduled to come out, just a list of a few of them:

MMORPG:

Guild Wars 2

Diablo 3 (think its 2010)

Star Wars: Old Republic

Final Fantasy XIV

All Points Bulletin (modern MMO-styled robbers vs cop)

Video console games:

Halo: Reach

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Splinter Cell: Conviction

The list goes on...

But I want to know what YOU are looking forward the most in 2010, whether its MMORPGs, console games, whatever.

I personally am looking forward to Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Guild Wars 2. I currently play Guild Wars and am loving it. I used to play WoW, but am holding off on it until Cataclysm comes out. Guild Wars has impressed me ever since character creation. Graphics are great, gameplay is great, you can only equip 8 skills at a time which enables strategy, skill-focused pvp, the list goes on. Although, the level cap could be higher (which is being raised in GW 2).

Guild Wars 2 has so many new features as opposed to GW 1: (copied from Guild Wars 2 game list)

Guild Wars 2 is the upcoming sequel to Guild Wars. Currently in development at ArenaNet, Guild Wars 2 will offer the same free to play model as the original game series while introducing a host of graphical and mechanics upgrades.

Guild Wars players will find only their character names and achievements carry over, as everything else is planned to be completely new. Where characters could only move with mouse clicks, now there will be a full range of motion in 3-D for each character, destructible environments, a mentoring system to let higher and lower level players join forces, and additional layers to PvP.

The Mists, a new area, will offer large-scale world versus world battles in addition to the much-loved solo or guild versus guild PvP. PvP and RP characters will no longer be distinguished from each other, and the level cap will be higher than the original game's 20.

Notably, the land of Tyria itself will undergo shifts in terrain and structure following large-scale destruction vital to the game's plot. The plot is set 250 years after the Eye of the North expansion, and concerns the awakening of dragons long believed to have been defeated and rendered powerless in slumber. Their awakening not only causes panic but flooding and massive destruction as others rise up to try and stop this ancient force. A release date is yet to be announced.

Really looking forward to it.

Nowwww...what about you guys?

Have not heard of Dialbo 3 being a MMORPG, but have heard it might be coming out in 2010.

    Guild Wars 2

    Diablo 3 (think its 2010)

    Star Wars: Old Republic

I'd give all three of those  a try barring horrible reviews. Although I did not like guild wars. Didn't like the lobby game feel, or the character progression.

Diablo 3 is not an MMORPG. its has online multiplayer features, but mainly singleplayer with online Multiplayer attached. just like diablo 2. so cant include Diablo 3 into this list. but I am eager to play it either way.

Seriously doubt Diablo 3 will come out this year anyway. Starcraft 2 will come out before. Also GW2 will most likely release in 2011.

Guild Wars 2 is worth giving a shot seems really promising, especially that its not gonna be heavily instanced. I played the first GW for 1.5years...but got bored, hopefully 2 will be better. Star Wars...well,I've always been a bioware fan and tbh,the game must be immersive and complex, like any other bioware RPG (-->Baldur's Gate Series,Kotor,NWN series and now the impresive Dragon Age) I have really high expectations from these 2 games..need to get my hands on new mmo now that i quit wow cause its too faceroll and any1 can gear up and pretend to be pro.

SW:TOR will release 2011, Diablo 3 is not an MMO and, well that's personal opinion, GW2 is an NCSoft game... which means I'm gonna steer right clear, I remember Guildwars too well...

EDIT: Star Trek Online and Mortal Online will be released this year though.

    EA won't have problems, Zorn.

They still release the annoying rehashed sport games every year and a few good single player games who can make up for their modern failures in MMOs. I doubt that they'll release a new MMO if SWTOR fails.

As for MMOs, only Guild Wars 2(at least beta, if I can get it) and FF14.

A lot of single-player games however, it's the year of sequels. While annoying how devs didn't make new IPs, the sequels like Mass Effect 2, Mafia 2, Bioshock 2, Starcraft 2, Arcania: A Gothic Tale(Gothic 4), Crysis 2 seem at least decent. I could go on forever.

The best game of 2010 will be Mass Effect 2

and it's out soon, too. :)

As for MMO's, well, meh. They all look mediocre. Though a few have potential.

I'm still hoping Dust 514 will come out in 2010.... probably won't come out for another 2 years but I can always hope.

    MMO

    Global Agenda

    SWTOR

    Multiplayer

New Medal of Honour  (I pray they can recapture the form of MOHAA)

    Single player

    Mass Effect 2

    GRID 2 DX 11 goodness

Other than those there is very little interest in anything else MMO genre is stagnant on a innovation level so expect more clones of this that n the other and single player it really has to be a stellar title with lots of multiplayer or replayability longevity to get me to pay £30+ for a game.

I dont see any great games coming out in 2010 which is quite depressing for me and my friends. We keep waiting for something to come out with challenging group/raid PvE and non-instanced PvP, which excludes just about every title releasing this year.

  • ProfRedProfRed Member UncommonPosts: 3,495

Oh man hands down FFXIV.  Normally PvP is a requirement for me in MMO's and not instanced crap like WoW, but not necessarily so die hard as DF, but a game like FFXI makes me forget all about it with the community, groups, adventures, etc.  I really look forward to playing FFXIV.

Other than that almost everything else looks like the same old garbage.  Some info on Dust 514 or World of Darkness would make me happy, and i'm on the fence about Heroes of Telara which may come out by the end of the year who knows.

Few promising games this year, which is alot better then last year. *Cheers* and heres to a good 2010 and 2011.

Also Blizzard will announce this year of there new MMO.

  • TatumTatum Member Posts: 1,153

GW 2 sounds the most interesting, but that's probably 2011 along with all the others.

  • Pappy13Pappy13 Member Posts: 2,138

Blizzard has already stated that the only 2 releases this year will be Starcraft II and Cataclysm, so no D3 this year.

2010 will see me continue to play and enjoy the best mmorpg on the market (IMO), Darkfall.
