Heh, yeah I laughed when I saw that.  It does smack of desperation.

I don't see it that way.  Simply a joke and lets be realistic for some that has always been a factor to them whether they want to admit it or not.

Much as I cannot stand Funcom as a company and think their actions at times are almost criminal in nature; I must say I just saw it as a marketing scheme and a slightly amusing one at that.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

TBH it's weird they use the word cleavage, but without any actual cleavage.

Getting!?  They have always been desperate!

Tits and ass has always been one of Funcom's marketing gimmicks with AoC. Of course, tits are a selling point for just about every MMO out there apparently.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

Its just a joke, if you look at most of their adds they tend to be rather comical rather than trying to take the EPIC AWESOME rout some of the other companies take.

Also, that's part of the whole gestalt of Conan.

It's very primal content... barbarians, lamentations of the women, Swords, dark sorcery.

Many of the conan covers feature some sort of scantily clad woman.

I definitely see it as a joke.

I agree, they're absolutely desperate. I mean, look at the wholesomeness of other games' ads:

Hmm. I assumed that the AoC "cleavage" ad was self-deprecating humour.

Hard to tell with the international community, I suppose.

    Picture 2:  Insert MMO here

Picture 3: "dont worry, ive been 'around' since launch"

Man oh Man, Just you guys wait,  When Blade and Soul comes around, they are going to have a field day on "Marketing Desperation" all over again.

Geuss some people have no idea what kind of World Conan is set in.......

I suggest picking up a few Conan movies or books and then see if you feel the need to make such a meaningless topic about it again

I think Conan should use my Avater on their ads. Just the thought of that makes me burst into song....I have a dream.....

I sing the songs that make the young girls cry.

    Seems like the OP misunderstands.

I'm not sure he actually misunderstood and rather, was attempting to find a way to bash Funcom. I mean, as many users have shown, many games uses scantily clad woman to advertise their games in ways so much worse than what AoC does which, as mentionned, is more of a joke than a serious attempt at making ads.

Hell, MMORPG.com had advertising for several games that had very "shocking" imagery or used females as a mean to advertise their game. (Evony, Luna, Cloud9, etc). The only difference was that female was the selling point in their advertising while in the case of Funcom's it's a joke.

Slightly out of subject but look at the DDO ad which goes like

"In other MMORPGs, you get to fight.....Brocoli!"

I see Funcom's "Cleavage image" the same way as I see this ad....a joke.
