There's this keypad for the PS3 controller....

OR

A stylish Bluetooth keyboard.

I'm leaning towards the keyboard whether it be bluetooth or not, but it must be wireless.

I think I'd go with the keyboard. That keypad thing just looks kinda weird and I can't see using it feeling very natural, like you have to reach over all the controls to use it.  But that's just my opinion just from looking at it.

First ill definatly have ffxiv on both PC and Ps3. and I will play it on both platforms.

I personally am leaning towards using the controller keypad because I remeber playing ffxi on ps2, I found it rather bothersome putting the controller down and pick up a keyboard to type. It would have been much easier to just re-position your hands slightly on a controller to type.

Thats just my opinion though, your going to have to find what works best for you.

Edit; I am assuming you plan to use the controller to play the game. If you plan to use keyboard and mouse to actually play the game on PS3 then ya sure go with the keyboard all the way. If your just using keyboard to chat then I stick with  my above comments.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)

I played FFXI for years on PC, but I no longer have a gaming PC, so I'm going to have to play FFXIV on PS3. You say you're going to play on both, when on PS3 will you use the controller or a keyboard? I ask because since I played FFXI only on PC, I find it hard to imagine using a controller. And also, just out of curiosity, why do you plan on playing on both platforms?

This isnt a sarcastic question. Im genuinely curious. Why buy it on 2 different platforms?

one reason maybe another person in his house wants to play but they only have one PC and one PS3

another would be maybe he wants to play both charicters at the same time and alt tabing between them doesnt interest them (if the game would even allow multiple instances running.

the missing link in a chain of destruction.

All spelling and typographical errors are based soely on the fact that i just dont care. If you must point out my lack of atention to detail, please do it with a smile.

I own the bluetooth keyboard since it came out and its a neat little keyboard. I personally don't like the touchpad mouse thingy but everything is sturdy. I've dropped it several times and 2 year old nieces loves whack on the keys. I've been meaning to pick up the keypad to but I'm in no rush to get it. Like Todd mention I'm planning on playing on both platforms to. The reasons are.

    1. I can have a mule on a second account selling items while I'm on my main account playing. This will probably be later in game.

    2. Can lay back in the bed and play on my ps3 when I get tired of sitting and staring at PC monitor.

    3. Just in case one of them dies on me I can play with the other. RMAing PC parts can be a tedious problem even more troublesome depending on the company. Also getting my PS3 refurbished can take awhile to. If this PS3 dies on me I will probably get a slim and try to fix the broken one.

This is what I was thinking also.  Even though it's not that hard to put the controller aside for a sec, it's still more convenient to have the keypad just for typeing.

I plan on having both versions as well.

    1.  I have a PS3 in my bedroom and another in my cave.

    2.  I have multiple pc's to play on (even at work.)

If the account can be used in both versions, I'd be dumb not to get both.

It would be nice if they just made a decent controller that lasts rather than all this junk. 50 bucks everytime a battery dies or the analogs get wore out is lame.

not sure yet!ps3 is a good solution to aging computer but so far not that many mmo.
and the fact that just upgrading my network card to a giga and processor to
a x2 6000 will bring it up to speed isnt worth a new computer
graphic ,yes in 2 years dx11 will be everywhere but for now we have to wait till they get devlopped.
ps3 hasnt a clear path yet true mag will be insane.ff14 could be nice.
but aside from those two what do game warrent buying a ps3
xbox!now i know a game that warrent buying the system,
halo reach!that game warrent buying that console just by itself.but since microsoft had so many issue in the past with xbox i ll skip and just upgrade the 2 part i mentioned to get up to speed since my connection is 9.4 mb/s and the cap of my network card is 12.5 mb/s
    way to close for confort!

Ill use a controller with the keypad on ps3. Why will I play on 2 platforms? Because even tho i do have a high end gaming PC with a 24' moniter, there is no competition when it comes to comfort when playing a game. I can play on a 52" tv reclining in comfort. When I am woried about getting top notch frames in like raid situations, ill be on PC. The better graphics that my PC will have means nothing to me. The graphics on PS3 will be awsome. Most likely in raid situation youll have your graphics turned down anyways for better fps.

If your tower is close to your TV can hook up your PC to your TV. Use to do it with AoC, but only problem was the highest reso I could use was 1920 x 1080 and I think the refresh rate was low. Also it will only look good with a lcd TV.

Ya  a person could do that. that wouldnt work in my place though Id have to rearange things. For max resoulution on a 52' lcd tv Your going to have to have a crazy GPU set-up.

    Obviously use a keyboard.

I have friends who got that little mini keyboard. It feels fine if you're not holding the controller when you use it (hold the attachment instead) but it's too expensive considering its' uselessness.

Keyboard all the way. Bluetooth or wired. I prefer wired myself. Plus if your ps3 controller is dead you can control everything with a keyboard (navigating the main ps3 menu and controlling your character, talking, issuing commands, etc.) with no hassle!

'I'm not stupid, I just have an excess of useless information.'

I guess the third option: The very unstylish yet functional keyboard

You make no sense and upgrading network card makes no sense at all since trunk network can barely push over 10Mbps speeds. So unless you have straight cable to SE server, having gigabit network card makes no sense.

But back to original topic, switching between keyboard and controller sounds like pain in ass so unless there is voice communication inside game I doubt switching between keyboard and controller is option.

I'll definitely use a keyboard. That keypad is definitely NOT as convenient as some people are making it out to be. I type at a fast rate and it's much quicker for me to put the controller down for a moment and type, than it is to look down at that little keypad to type.

  • tryklontryklon Member UncommonPosts: 1,370

Ill buy a BT keyboard too.

That little keyboard is not very confortable when you are trying to write alot.

A MMO is supposed to be about socialization, it's supposed to speak and write alot, I cant imagine doing that with that puny misplaced thing. The little keyboard on the xbox360 pad is alot more confortable

My boyfriend & I will have three copies all together. 1 for me, 1 for him, and 1 so we can play it on our PS3. For the PS3 we will probably have the controller + keypad.

  • AlbytapsAlbytaps Member Posts: 208

If this game turns out the way I think it's going to be, I'll probably end up getting both the keypad and a kepyboard to try em both out.

Haha! Wow. Now THAT'S a controller! First time I've ever seen it.

Getting too old for this $&17!
