Well open beta starts tomorrow. Just curious as to what people are expecting or what they're reactions will be. To be honest, I think I might be a bit underwhelmed. My hype has been on the negative side with recent previews etc. For some reason it sounds like a single player game online, and for the life of me I am not sure why I am thinking like that. I think for me it is that space is always going to seem empty, so it may as well be a single player game.
I await to be pleasantly surprised.

It's really hard to say how I will react. Mainly because I haven't played it yet
OK...I guess the proper wording should be, how are you expecting it all to go?
Is it an open beta, or one of those "pay money to get a key"- betas? The sto-website is just down so I can't check it.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
knowing Gamestop, from whom I preordered. Ill probably not get my beta info until next weeks sometime ..
Come on now. How many big name titles have had "open" open betas in the last few years.
There was a dev quote saying that it will be open to anyone who wants in tomorrow but there will be limited places X amount of thousand i'd imagine. Most likely it'll be first come first served, pre-ordering only guarantees your beta place.
I want this game to rock. I know it won’t. Maybe, however, it will be somewhere in the middle. I'm hoping to enjoy myself, and not just be like "dam why couldn’t they have done this!". I am willing to give them some time to get the features working, as long as the main game is playable.
I am sort of an old Trekkie, more when I was younger, so I do have certain ideas about how Star Trek should feel. That is what I think will do it for me, if it feels like Trek. I am mostly into PvP, so hopefully they get that part more fleshed out Klingon play in particular.
That’s the part that worries me the most. I get bored of PvE. I need to blow people to hell to feel exited. Heck even getting my ass handed to me is fun; it inspires me to get better. But I worry that if I play Klingon it will be boring and predictable without ORvR of some kind. I also worry about the holy trinity in space. I hope the combat system isn't totally dumbed down.
We shall see.
That's part of the problem.
No good reason to defend it.

I don't see a problem.
Open Beta doesn't equate to free trial.
I think my reaction will be dissapointment.
It will be utter disappointment if space combat resembles - as it does from what we can see from the leaked videos - with EVE's point and click style.
Other than that, I would be really happy if ground combat will manage to retain my attention more than a couple of hours.
Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...
From what I've read on the official site and seen from various videos, everything looks good. Space play looks like star fleet battles which I enjoyed. Away team combat doesn't look bad to me. All in all a good experience coming. Want to give the exploration part a try. Maybe mix in some pvp. Looking for a good fun time.
Just got my beta key! See you in game.
The reaction will be...
99% of people think it sucks.
1% of the fanbois will then defend the game whatever.

In my experience, very little changes from an open beta to retail, if at all. For all intents and purposes, it *is* a trial - The only thing that's tested usually is the servers ability to handle a couple thousand people at once.
This is coming from at least 10 open betas so far. I've even been in some closed betas which havent changed significantly up to retail - Though this was usually in the last 3-4 months. It's too short a time to add or change things to a degree where it will make much difference, nor to add "missing" content. Taking Warhammer as an example, they had 120+ devs working on loads of content, they had it ready but still chose to keep it out of retail. If that happens with content that already exists, i very much doubt that smaller teams will be able to create anything worthwhile at all in the last few months before release.
If anything, minor bugs will be fixed. Thing is that open beta can't afford to make any major or even minor changes as there's no time to test them. Bugfixing is the best you can hope for.
As such, i do regard open betas as a free trial before the game goes live.

99% of the naysayers who already hated the game will still hate it. Nothing was ever going to change that.
1% of them might change their mind.
The rest who already liked the game will still like it and maybe a small percentage of those will change to not liking it. In the end, both groups will be flooding these forums with wild accusations or wild gushing.

If the BGs are well done I will have a blast with the game.
I would still be playing Aion if there were some bg in there..
My expectations and reactions for tomorrow might play out like the following:
*Server UP*
"Yay! Now I can log in and -- oh... long patch...."
*40 minutes later*
"Yay! Patch done now I can log in and make my--"
*Server Offline*
"Doh!"
*Server UP*
"Ok, now lets --"

"Crap...."
*Server UP*
"Ok... now lets see if I can get in now..."
*Authenticating....*
"So far so good..."
*Logging in - Welcome!*
"Whoo!"
*Server Offline*
"Damnit!"

I think this is about what I expect on Tuesday... come the weekend I expect lag and server crashes galore... if we actually get any decent amount of gameplay I'll be pleasantly surprised. New games always have a few troubles.
Aye, I am used to beta testing and all the fun that comes with them.
But, I still find myself in that same situation every time :P

I hope it all goes as well as can be expected for a beta. Not sure if i will ever try the game but nothing wrong with having a few more successful mmos out. Who knows maybe if we get a few decent mmos out the developers might actually get a little competitive fire in their belly and 2011 could be a year of many great mmos.
