A couple of people where asking what this game is actually like to play, so here goes...
1) Take the instanced dungeons out of DDO and the battlegrounds out of WoW and set them in the future.
2) Mix in the mechanics of COD4, TF2 and Tribes then add the graphic style of UT3.
3) Incorporate some MMO staples, like skill trees, hotbars, an AH, crafting, kit upgrades, etc.
4) Split the game in 2 so that once you've bought the game, you can do all of the above for free. Or you can sub and get access to huge battles, territorial control, agency management (guilds), vehicles, PvE content updates, etc.
5) Think up a background story and produce some cool 80s-style sci-fi soundtrack and you're done.

lol...
To be quite honest though, it is fun to play. I've been playing beta and it really isn't that bad (the times that the test servers are up anyway...). I'm an oldschool Quake / CS nut (original CPL R.I.P), but I also enjoy MMORPG's, so I like the FPS spin-off's with some MMO elements.
This game definitely seems like a Tribes MMO!

You're saying it has similarities to Tribes other than being an FPS?!
I'm sold. Pre-ordering when I get out of work today.
I'll just add that I too am a big fan of the GA and although a little tongue-in-cheek, I guess my analogy is really a compliment. I figure it might give others a basis for comparison when trying to work out what this game is like.

It's going to be hard, because everyone is still looking for a MMORPG out of this game when it's clearly not neither have the devs stated it was.
At the same time, it 's still one of the best games I've played in a long time

I'm still looking for the MMO part. They tout reviews and awards by MMORPG.com, Massively, Tentonhammer, etc, and have the tagline on their site of "Massively Multiplayer Action, Player Driven World". That's some bullshit if I ever did see it. I think the website, marketing, and video interviews are helping this game fail. They are setting up expectations that they can't meet. This game is NOT massively multiplayer. If it is, then so is Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, and Tribes 2. They are skewing the MMO tag to try and get fans and sales, the flip side is that the people they get with these tactics will be very, very disappointed in what they have purchased.

Did you even PLAY AvA - I somehow doubt it...
Oh wait... Ill answer if for you "I don't need to play the stupid AvA part to know this game is trash - it is because I say so and I don't like it". No - GA isn't the standard "MMO" like WoW, AoC, etc.. if you bothered to do ANY research before hand you'd know what to expect (A GW type game and not an open world/char advancement game)....
Something like that - right?

AvA can't save this game.
I'm all about something new, non-WoW clones, but you start using the word MMO in your description of your game, you better bring the heat.
This is as much of an MMO as Call of Duty or Team Fortress 2 is. Those games have 10v10 as well, just FYI. This game added a virtual lobby and somehow it's now an MMO.
Want to talk about epic fail. It's in this game.

I think you have your beer goggles on.
On the beta forums the "Official I love this game because of..." thread has 6 pages of posts.
On the beta forums the "Official I hate this game because of..." thread has 12 pages of posts. Then the thread was locked and a new one created, it's already up to 2 pages.
Seems to me that's over double the amount of posts with people hating what they see vs. loving what they see.
Just sayin.
This was supposed to go to another thread - Ill post it here instead since the last got locked by your trolling:
Thats because people ALWAYS complain.... did you even bother to read those posts? People are putting stuff in the "hate" thread to make suggestions on how to improve the game. If you read MOST of them you'd know its something like "I think this game is great but if you do X, Y, and Z you'll have such a better/more polished product... Of course there's gonna be whiners - what would the internet be without it? You wanna know the kicker? the Devs LISTEN to those people and are already changing the game to make it suit a wider audience - BASED on those threads that your talking about. Just because it has some negative feedback - that doesn't mean the game is crap... I think negative feedback is very important.... no game is perfect - GA has its flaws but its great to see the dev team working hard to fix these issues...

Instead of addressing even a single issue brought up, you just go on an attack and then go off on a rant.
The same issues are being brought up over and over again everywhere.
Another perfect example of why the develops have had to add protected threads so people could voice their disappointments without dealing with rabid fans.
Feel free to attempt a response to any of the following:
1. Only 4 classes, all sharing the same 2 main weapons.
2. Only can play with 3 friends in all normal non AVA modes.
3. 4 generic cookie cutter maps(same design) for each of the game modes, less with PVE.
4. A ton of melee spam.
5. AVA is only 10 v 10. 60 v 60 split up into groups of 10.
There is more content than in any other free multiplayer game than this.
Hell, Guild Wars had more content by FAR at launch and has no subscription.
In the end you have a FPS with very very little content, ability to play with only 3 friends, and 10 v 10 max games...

I agree with you on some of your numbered points with the exception of 3. which I think is inaccurate - the game is still in Beta, and 4. which is a matter of opinion.
This appears to be very much a glass half empty or glass half full kinda game. A lot of MMO gamers would totally agree with your points and may not be pleased, but let me put it to you like this instead:
1. 4 distinct classes, no pointless hybrids or unnecessary variations on a theme. Each with the same base kit for balance.
2. Optional PvE for those who wish to take a break from PvP and play with a handful of friends.
3. A wide variety of maps for each game mode.
4. Genuine melee action!
5. AvA split into sub-groups to avoid meaningless chaos and for increased game performance.
More free online content than any other FPS.
Engaging combat system instead of needless story and fluff, unlike traditional MMORPGs. No monthly fee.
An MMOFPS in Beta with likely a lot of content not available until release.
It all depends on how you see things. I like this game and find it enormous fun. What you see as a negative, I actually see as a positive in many cases.

It has been confirmed that there are only 4 maps of each type and that is all on release.
Meh, well that does suck!
That's one thing they'll need to work on if they wanna keep people playing this, variety being the spice of life and all.
Did Hi-Rez mention whether more maps will be added later?

Yes they have... It was one of their top complaints so they said they are working on more... might not come directly at release though (IE: May be a month or two later before they add in more maps, content, etc)
my only real concern is the only being able to play with a mac of 3 other teammates. This is dumb. Why be in a clan then? For the AVA....you could "buy" other 4 man teams to come do ava or all pool together..
If I am in a guild of 30 ppl I want to be able to throw 10 guys on one team in a battle. This is the real deal breaker for me. The other stuff I like. The base class of characters can change based of specialization trees....
I REALLY hope they fix the 4 man team thing.....really dissapointed when i found this out
I agree... its hella lame.... borderline retarded.
The devs are aware and are in the process of fixing it (at least that's the impression on the beta boards from the dev team)....
If not - they'll definitely lose out on a ton of subs.... there's no good reason NOT to have this functionality.
deleted due to mis-information, thought I remembered seeing that. sorry
But information has been given on the subject(cant go further due to NDA)
"That's ludicrous. Are you seriously suggesting that I get better at the game in order to compete?"-Random Failure in the Global Agenda Beta forums.
ok a couple questions:
1) would you play this game (beta testers that r in hate mode) if a) more maps were made and b) you could play with all 10 teammates
2) This game provides class characters with spec trees (so I hear), crafting, char customization, and the Ava (which is cool I like this idea and love the 6 10v10 instances - thats an opnion thing) and AH, all mmo (wow/eq) type elements which I lilke without pve (I hate pve)
I love all those things. I can live with a temparary 4 map styles to play. My question is with all the above mention what game can come close to it in an FPS? Would TF2 be a viable option to this what would it lack that GA has?
I still have hopes for GA but I want to see the 4 man team thign fixed first
They have stated that they are changing that in the next patch to allow 10 people.
Edit: not sure if that is an NDA breach, i know its pretty much public news with the 4 man team.
That absolutely was not said. Will not breach NDA to go into more details.
Giving something criticism on valid points does not make you hate something.
More maps is good.. but they can't be the same cookie cutter design. Right now the PVP maps are all the same design.
The game has class characters with trees, but the trees are super bland and you only get 13 points to customize them with. Everyone will gravitate the same. Even if you somehow coordinate total opposites, it will not differ much in reality.
The main problem is that they are not offering anything special for the subscription fee. If they charged like Guild Wars and continued to expand the game(adding what should have already been here by now) while keeping it free and adding bigger expansions down the line, I would be all for it.
Instead, they are just taking out anything that might possibly make the game worth playing and charging $13 a month for it, on top of the initial investment.
Games like Asheron's Call, which was released over 10 years ago had a world that you would take 10 hours to run across, a unique magic system, a unique skill levelling system, patrons/vassals, quests, 256 levels, pvp, etc.
Games like Battlefield 2 have 32 v 32 huge battlefields with unique, huge, uniquely crafted maps, with voip and a squad/commander system.
This game offers none of the scope of either game. 10 v 10 battles, threadbare maps, non unique character types, and nothing much else.. and then charges a subscription fee.
It reminds me of what Hellgate tried to pull. Take out part of the content, divide your base, and gives the ones that pay nothing for it.
This game doesn't even have a friends list... 5 years of development on a MMO type game and no friends list!? WHAT HAVE THEY BEEN DOING!?!?!? How in the world do you release a beta of a game like this WITHOUT a friends' list!?
It just smacks of a rush job.

In terms of what you've said in the highlighted bits, I think those comparisons are a little harsh. This game is a blend of different styles so there is no way it's going to have the full functionality of 2 or 3 different types of game. Still, you make a good point.
The funny thing about this game is that I've had the same issues with it's design, etc for a while yet for some reason I have enormous fun playing it.
I guess at present GA's like a MacDonald's Big Mac - there are so many things wrong with it, yet I still love it!

Yep ... that's indeed the analogy i was looking for .... it has many flaws, but it's sooo much fun.
No new maps will be available at release.
What you see is exactly what you get:
4 repeating maps in a weak 10 v 10 shooter that you have to pay a subscription fee for.

Given the pressure Hi-Rez appear to be under to provide more content at release, I could see the statement in blue becoming addressed.
The statement in turquoise is opinion.
The statement in purple in incorrect.
