Hey Everyone,
I am curious if S.E will be implementing some sort of achievements system to FFXIV similar to what we have seen in other games over the past few years? I for one would like to see this added as it give the player even more to accomplish and be proud of while progressing their character. What is everyone elses thoughts on this? Would this be a good addition to FFXIV or is it just not necessary for this type of MMO? Looking forward to this one!

I like this feature. I really do. Ive seen it in WoW and im sure other games have it also. I dont like it for the "Hey look what Ive done Im clearly better than you" factor but more for the ability to see what your character has done, from your own view. So that when you see that achievement you look back and remember the experience you had when getting it.
Personally, I am a huge fan of achievement systems. They give exploration a purpose and I always appreciate that sort of thing.
Well there are only 3 MMOs that have achievements so far: WAR, WoW and EQII. Then I suppose you can say FFXI has them too, but only on XBox 360 cause its mandatory that every game released on 360 must have them.
I like them to a point if they're fun, and just something on the side to consider attempting or silly like catch 100,000 fish, or kill 10,000 rarabs just because. Its when players start demanding you must have certain ones in order to join their party or guild like the elitist jerks in WoW do; are when its not fun anymore. Also the ones that seem impossible to complete or are just stupid difficult or outright annoying I don't enjoy.
I look at most achievements as yet another bar to fill, which does require a ton of additional grinding, but because the bar is empty I wanna fill it...hehe
I doubt it ...
I know all future PS3 games are required to have trophy support and I think the same is true for achievements on the 360. Other than that I don't think you will see something like you have in other MMO. No other MMO (did AoC ever come to the 360 like it was supposed to?) are on consoles, their achievement system fills the void by not being on the platform.
And to respond to this: "it give the player even more to accomplish and be proud of while progressing their character"
I am proud of my accomplishments and I don't superficially have to prove it to everyone by some score or insignia. I am proud of what I did when I defeated Alexander in ToAU. No one but the 5 other people in my party would be able to corroborate my stories, but then again I don't care. I have those memories and deeds in me and that is all the truly matters.
I like achievements when they are diverse, as they guide me into doing things I wouldn't have thought of doing, and reward me somehow for what I do.
Not everyone plays for the sake of grinding the next gear in the progression, and those that do may also enjoy a break from it once in a while, and achievements will give them something to do.
I hope so. WoW's achievement system is immensely popular with its player base, they don't really give any benefit to your character but they are strangely addicting. I also feel it gives people incentive to do content they probably wouldn't otherwise which helps other people finish content they need to get done.
They don't really do anything for you or the game...at all, but for some reason I'm addicted to them.
If you only knew how many games I bought on 360 instead of PS3 just for achievements...
QFT. Achievements sound good on paper but end up being nothing more than rude bragging rights and a mad rush through content to show them off.

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.
I don't really mind if they have one or not to be honest. But if they do they had better not allow other players to see your achievements in any form (other than maybe a total number of points?). I don't want to see them used as a requirement to get groups like they are in WoW.
I'm not sure if FFXIV will really need them, but I'll admit they're a nice alternative when you're bored.
I am not for it unless it is made a lot more constructive and harder to attain. What i have seen in other games i'm not a big fan of.
I am quite certain FFXIV will be centered around guild play,it is going to be i think a fair bit different than FFXI was.
The bummer for me ,is that i am not big on any kind of questing unless it is fun and well done, good luck hoping for that.I think this game will focus a lot on quests for everything from special abilities to guild awards.IMO it is a cheap design to just use quests all the time to tie into game content, there are much more creative ways to design a game.
This is of course my opinion, but everything seems to be leading in this direction,we will have to wait another month or 2 to get some better answers on FFXIV's content and structure.
I look at it this way,Achievements are jsut another form of time=reward,we have enough cheap quest play and easy mode game play as it is in games,i like to feel apart of something challenging and unique. There is a lot of stuff Square could borrow/copy from EQ2,that i would rather see example mob mastery spells,LORE,spell tiers.
To answer simply,no it would not bother me even 1% if there was no AP.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Nope. Sorry bud. it was EQ2 with the first one then LOTRO then came WAR , then WoW picked it up. There is 4 more but i wont pop them up . google it if you want but 3? sorry no.

Ummm....EQII just added them a few months ago, LOTRO doesn't even have Achievements...they're traits that is a form of character progression, not a look at what I did accomplishment. WAR had them at launch and WoW followed a little over a year later..
So what are these others then, since you brought it up with completely inaccurate info then say nothing more!?
Another game that has achievements is City of Heroes, except they called it badges.
Personally I like the system, it gives you more goals than just level grinding and hoarding gear.
There are certain queer times and occasions in this strange mixed affair we call life when a man takes this whole universe for a vast practical joke, though the wit thereof he but dimly discerns, and more than suspects that the joke is at nobody's expense but his own.
