The deplomancy isn't indepth, but it is there. But it not all combat as you claim, which was the point of my comment.
I'm guessing you are all fans of the point and click bore fest known as EVE?
Dude, the game doesn't even have a guild system.
It got to be the firtst MMO without one.
You are right it does not have a "guild system" it has a "fleet system"----the same thing.
You seem to have an agenda here, which is just to put the game down even if it is just stuff you have made up.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"
I love how people on this board think they are so in the loop, knowing EXACTLY what makes the perfect MMO, and if a company stray from that ideal one millimeter they jump all over the game saying to all "bow to me, heed my word! do not buy this game! for I know exactly what you like in a game and you will not like this one!" lol. get informed, make your own decision, hell spend a measly $50, or go ahead dont buy the game, dont see for yourself, im sorry if your that cheap, it must suck lol
PS stop compareing this game to Potbs, the space combat is derived from the early Starfleet command games for PC, get educated!
First people know what makes the perfect MMO for them. And one millimeter on a critical issue for a player can be a big deal. It's no secret this game is rushed, no secret that its using the champions online engine, and you can tell. I've not heard anyone say bow to me,except you. I find it humorous that you go off complaining about people sharing their opinion of the game, then go off sharing yours. And for some people in this economy $50 is enough not to want to waste, especially if your not living in your parents basement. :P

The poor state of the game is no surprise. When they announced a couple months ago the release date and the game wasnt in OB at that time, many people guessed it wouldnt be pretty and they were correct. The game needs work in many areas and 1 month isnt enough time to make that happen. Not to mention this is chronic Cryptic strategy and certainly not their first time yet they dont learn or improve.

Guild system? As in guild level/reward or just simply creation. The latter it has. Most MMORPGs don't have a guild leveling system, part of me is glad they don't (i.e. calls of elitism).
Enlighten us how to create one? As I sure as hell can't find any info, nor are there any UI keys, UI windows that show guild functionality.
No one in the game knows how to create a guild. Most say there is no guild system.
When you open the social tab, the only thing you have is a friendlist. That's it!
Just go through the whole UI key bindings list. There is nothing that points to Guild Functionality at all. Simply because it's not there.
Go into the personnel section of Earth Spacedock and ask the Fleet Creation Officer maybe? He only stands there and yells out that is what he does to everyone who walks by. The fleet(guild) functionality of the UI shows up when you are actually in one I think but I could be wrong on that one. Also this is still Beta and they my have just not turned the Fleet functionality on at this point because they want the beta testers working on breaking other things.
if the answer to this question was already given in this thread, forgive me, but i skipped ahead from somewhere halfway through page 3. I've gotten a free OB key from MMORPG.com, so i'm now in the process of downloading the game (at a painstaking 65KB/s... but whatever), but can't wait to ask one (to me) major question:
Does STO force you to do missions? (outside the tutorial ofc) Or can you play it like a sandbox game?
*sigh* It's as I feared. I was tolarable for a superhero MMO, but form a Trek MMO I surely would have expected more. Again, it was WAY too much for a company to develop two MMos at the same time. Now we have two mediocre instead of one really good one.

I downloaded the beta client last night and put a couple of hours into.
Remember Kids, Just say NO. Dear god what a pile of shit. Ground combat? Shitty boring waste of space. Space Combat? fun at first then borning. Seems it is not possible to lose a battle vs NPCs if you are smart at all.
I could be in the easy part of the game still, as I said I only put a few hours into the game before bed last night but my Roommate and I were both laughing at this sad joke of an MMO with a Great IP.
This could have been a great MMO because of the Great IP but it was rushed and is basicly CO in Space.
I love how people on this board think they are so in the loop, knowing EXACTLY what makes the perfect MMO, and if a company stray from that ideal one millimeter they jump all over the game saying to all "bow to me, heed my word! do not buy this game! for I know exactly what you like in a game and you will not like this one!" lol. get informed, make your own decision, hell spend a measly $50, or go ahead dont buy the game, dont see for yourself, im sorry if your that cheap, it must suck lol

haha another self righteous goon. I don't live in my parents basement, I own my own home, in this economy so many people blame for their woes (PS stop using your credit cards and spending twice your monthly income morons). I never said this game was perfect, not once in my post, AND just because a game is not good for ONE person doesn't mean they should be telling people to avoid it like the plague just because they don't like it. That's the problem with most gamers these days, if it doesn't work for them, than obviously it shouldn't work for anyone right? wrong. Let people make their own educated, unbiased choice. Gamers these days expect games to be something....miraculous....life altering.....life DEFINING! In my eyes, that's sad, really sad. In the end STO is fun, and that's all it needs to be, I don't play mmo's because I expect this one game to fullfill my gaming needs for 12+ months, I play it because its fun, and when it starts to not be fun, I stop playing. Stop expecting these games ot be works of art a la piccaso and you wont be so fricken dissapointed.
PS and if you were expecting a free open world sandbox mmo from STO, I ROFL. Companies like Cryptic are out there to make money and if there is a SURE FIRE way NOT to make money, its to release a sandbox MMO. As nice as they are, and I do enjoy them, Im playing Fallen Earth right now while I play STO, they don't make money, period.

If you want to review/comment on a game, at least wait until its released.
Wait until it's released? So Cryptic can sell more boxes to unsuspecting dupes?
Nope. I don't think you are aware of what open beta means.
By definiation:-
Close Beta = Testing a pre-release product, under NDA.
Open Beta = Testing a pre-release product, with NDA lifted. Also usually used for stress testing.
Open Beta != Free trial of final product.
So yeah, I know exactly what it means.
Wrong.
NDA is not directly reated to Closed/Open beta even though usually closed betas are under an NDA. What defines a closed beta is that the group of people testing it are relatively small and usually more carefully selected.
Open beta is done by alot more people, usually thousands. That is what defines the two different stages, not NDA. A product may undergo an open beta with NDA still in effect.
I downloaded the beta client last night and put a couple of hours into. Remember Kids, Just say NO. Dear god what a pile of shit. Ground combat? Shitty boring waste of space. So let me get this straight, you run around doing combat in ships and on foot.
There is no trading in game?
There is no resource gathering in game? There is no crafting in game? There are no guild functions? There is no exploration? All you do is run around and kill stuff?
Yes, all you EVER do in game is run around and kill things. /sarcasm off

It is not sarcasm when it is true.
Because all that you do is to get missions which almost always revolves around killing some mobs and then rinse and repeat.
Crafting is pointless.
No resources worth gathering that I heard of.
Exploration is about going to designated places in an instanced zone and kill more mobs. That is not what I defined as exploration, and I would bet most people.
Not much point in trading since you pretty much get what you need dropped from mobs.
Guilds serve no more function beside social hubs since there is no content where you need a guild to access.
This game is a complete failure as a Star Trek MMORPG.

I wasted a lot of time downloading and installing this game. Didn't take playing very long to realize STO is a major FAIL. Going to Game Stop to get my $5 deposit back.
My only question is: Why aren't the game reviewers telling us about these terrible games in advance?
So let me get this straight, you run around doing combat in ships and on foot. Yes... it is a MMO after all There is no trading in game? Yes... there is an auction house as well as individual trades There is no resource gathering in game? Yes... You find and scan different kinds of anomalies which is the STO equivalent of resource gathering. There is no crafting in game? No, not really. You basically trade your resources for items at a vendor which is kinda lame. There are no guild functions? Yes there is but I haven't gotten into that part of the game yet so I won't comment There is no exploration? Yes there is but the early phase of the open beta is restricted to the 'home' space of the Feds and the Klingons to fully test the content there so the exploration aspects aren't accessible to the testers just yet. All you do is run around and kill stuff? Contrary to what another poster has claimed in this thread I've already had 2 missions where I didn't fire a single shot to accomplish them and I'm only level 4. This leads me to believe there will be more of these type missions.
There is a whole lot of misinformation being related as gospel in this thread so my best suggestion is to go and get a key and try the game out for yourself Teala. Do not take what anyone else has to tell you about this or any game. Try it out and judge it for what it is... not for what it isn't.

Because game reviewers publish their reviews in a magazine/site which has advertisements from game developing companies and has thus an interest in not making upsetting them.
Dont trust reviews from major gaming sites. Read the opinions of several people playing the game to get an accurate view of how it is like. You may need to read alot of their "reviews" to get all the info you need but usually gamers dont have any hidden agendas.
If MMORPG.COM said that this game was a pile of sheit then they wouldnt get many paid ads from Cryptic now would they?

I'll see. I just hate wasting time on a game that seems to offer so little game play value. I actually have access to OB but haven't done it because I just feel I am going to be disappointed and it'll waste my time.
