Illusionist question

Hi all,

Ive re-roll an illusionist.

The problem is, when i set my pet to protect me and range, it doesn't do anything, it just stand behind me in combat pose. I didn't see my pet cast any spell when i'm being attack.

Only when i set it to melee will it come to my assist.

I know that the icon becomes small upon activate, do i need to disable "protect self" also for my pet?

Any other things i need to know about this class?
