I've only played about 6hrs in OB and I'm fairly happy with it so far. I've done quite a bit more grouping than I initially thought I would which is a pleasant surprise. Space combat is fun, lot of manouvering around to get you shield facing the enemy and making sure you can use both phase banks. Ground combat could be better but it's still enjoyable.
My plan with OB is just to learn the game so I'm not spending too much time at head start figuring out what I'm doing.
The combat was extremely boring to me. Circle your target in space and mash the fire all button and just hope your gear is up to par
Are you sure you didn't download EVE by mistake? LOL
As for the game I'm finding it to be quite enjoyable and fun. These are the two most important things to me for any game so I would say STO is pure win in my book.

I've only played EVE for about 3 hours so no comment. I've been playing STO since closed and TBH I like the space combat ALOT more in SWG where you actually have to aim.
Kudos on the awesomeness of character customization ) If the combat matched that it would be a WOW killer )
I'm not saying STO is a fail on the basis of me not liking the combat. I'm fairly sure you will have Trekie die hards that will play it no matter what just because it's named Star Trek Online.
I don't like judging MMO's in Beta. It's not fair TBH and if you take into account how bad of a release WoW had and seeing where it is today. There are alot of MMOs that had horrible beta's/releases but are now well polished and fun to play.
I wish nothing but the best for Cryptic on STO. Just make combat "interesting" Something alot of games are failing at these days
