Weapon Choice?

I have a question for you guys.
Right now I'm a LVL 25 Thane and I use a shield and Hammer.
What I'd like to know is if I should Re-Spec into using Swords or Axe and whether I should be using a shield with these or using 2-handed weapons.
If at all Possible could you please give me the Pros & Cons for Each so that I may make a decision.
