FYI, Star Vault aim to crash the server and will be laggy as hell, so to give MO a fair chance I also recommend you join the open beta when that starts. But the stress test might give you an idea how the GUI look like ... Regarding the GUI for each patch lately they have improved it.
Everyone "on the fence" needs to join this Stress-test and take a look for yourself. Decide if the game is even reasonbly close to being released in 2 weeks.

this could be their defining moment. Hopefully the new patch contains some major fixes. no one expects the game to be perfect as long as its in alot better condition then its current state so gamers can atleast get their monies worth while the dev team work on more fixes.

The server is suppose to crash during this test. So performance during this test will be laggy like hell, probably unplayable.

I agree, but since it's a test meant to crash the server (by Mats words), they won't get a lot out of it.
That said, ultimately this stress test is only going to allow them to open the server for XYZ number of people. That's why they are doing it. So their "open beta" will be severely limited because this stress test will tell them how many people can ACTUALLY play the game. It will be far from "open" beta. Just another closed one based on their own parameters.
That said... try out the game now folks. You can judge for yourselves whether you think the few folks who repeat that the game is great are right, or whether the plethora of people who think the game is atrocious are right.
