~~~WARNING~~~WARNING~~~WARNING~~~
World of Warcraft & EverQuest references included I dont wanna burn!
~~~WARNING~~~WARNING~~~WARNING~~~

 So I was sitting here on my laptop wanting to have fun playing a game so I logged onto WoW for about 5 min looked at the character screen then I thought, "What's the point?"  For those of you who do or do not give a crap I got two level 80's and a level 74, each other class is atleast above 30.  When I first got to max level I basically would constantly do new content in order to gear up.  I would go to the battlegrounds to fight the alliance because it was the only thing that kept me from uninstalling WoW from my computer.  The only reason that I would continue to raid was to get gear to kill alliance faster.  After playing warhammer online I began to get completely burnt out on the battleground experience.  Where is the fun in raiding for better gear?  If pvp is the only aspect of the game that keeps me going then gear wont get me anything with the unbalanced to hell classes that are provided in this game.  Sometimes I thought Hey! I can go back to EverQuest those were the good ol' days when getting your ass kicked meant something!  But then I went back and basically its not even the same game anymore, it looks like SoE had their way with it.  I mean logging into EQ and WoW just really feel like timesinking money making machines.  The spirit from both games have been sapped away into capitalism.

About three months ago (roughly) I bought Darkfall and downloaded the client to begin playing it.  Upon creating my perfectly sculpted character after the first loading screen I heard screams and someone saying "Help me! Help me!".  I was thinkin hmm w/e must be some crazy NPC running around... then I saw the dozen mounted players coming for me.  Yup I died obviously and began my journey.  I killed goblins and did the various quests available.  What was strange is when I saw somebody doing tradeskills outside if I looked in their direction they actually looked at me and readied their weapon until I walked away then they went back to work.  This game really got my blood pumping and gave me a real sense that I was in a brutal alien world that I had to learn quickly or be killed again quickly.  About the third day I went to the goblin camp near the starting town I was in (Ork) and a human in full plate gear was chasing me with a two handed sword.  His name was red, I tried to defend myself but when I first saw him my stamina was already depleted so I was dead again.  I had absolutely nothing left.  Meanwhile my wife was laughing at me because I was screamin through the house, "Some douchebag human is chasing me!!!!"  I would really love to play this game because for the short time that I played it the gap in my MMO heart was filled after being a void for so long as if something were missing from each game I continued to play.

So I ask you community, should I give Darkfall another shot?  Will what I experienced happen on a regular basis?  Is there any websites that you can link so that I read up a bit on tactics and plan my gameplay accordingly?  I bought the NA client by the way.

    Well, giving it another shot depends on you personally and what you can handle. Will you get killed a lot if you come back? Probably, but not nearly as much as you would expect, especially if you play smart.

    Now, should that be something to detract you away from coming back? Well, if you can't handle getting killed and losing your weapons/armor/items that you have on you, than Darkfall certainly isn't your game. If you CAN handle losing sometimes but love the rush of adrenaline that the game gives you and the feeling of accomplishment when it's you taking down someone else, than I would say certainly come back.

    My best advice to you, is if you're a new player with low stats and skills, try to join a clan as soon as you can. If you don't want to do that right away and want to stay more solo, get your tier 1 quests from your capital city and start working on those. They will help you increase your stats and skills, will provide you with a lot of gold and items, will help you get acclimated more to the game, and will keep you relatively close to starter cities, providing some sort of protection for you.

    This is not a great community to ask about playing Darkfall but.......

    I think if PvP is what gets your blood boiling then Darkfall is your game.  I have not played since launch but beta was gank central and is one of the reasons I did not buy the game.  I want to enjoy my game and not get gank everytime I turn around.

    To each his own.  From what you said.  PvP is what drives you to have fun and Darkfall is nothing but PvP.

    Sooner or Later

    If you rolled an Ork, i highly suggest you talk to the Black Ork Assasins (an all ork clan), they are a mature clan that will help you with what ever you need- be it equipment or training.

    welcome to darkfall

    I have played DF since beta and in fact I rerolled after my come back in December. I have played since then maybe 30-40 hours. Not all of them where contributed to focused training, anyway I got ganked ONCE mostly because of my stupidy: I had main sound switched to 20 % and I was discussing something with my gf. In the end I reliezed that I have 6 mounted red SUN members on  my ass when it was already too late to run.

    The trick for me is to not join a clan and level up my skills while using cheap drop weapons , arrows and regents: various kobold spawns, trolls, orc acolytes/protectors/warriors are your best friends. Even if you die you lose nothing and you keep gaining skills, stats and money. If you like crafting or just feel like a change you may craft yourself a basic armour ( chain, banded or leather ) and weapons. Nothing special which you would regret losing.

    If you are on NA you should join NEW, they can help get you up to speed in a 30 day crash course of Darkfall. Then you can go find a clan. The NEW people are pretty good about finding clans for their graduates.

    Is NEW helping their members to choose clans? Last time I was in NEW, they'd refuse to give any advices regarding clans :P

    To OP, if you liked your experience in DarkFall, I say give it a shot. And as some mentionned already, join either Black Ork Assassin or NEW, both clans will greatly help you as a new player and you won't have as many issues regarding griefing.

    I think that's part of what keeps most of the large alliances on non-kill terms with NEW.  By not pushing their members in one clan's direction, they're not playing favorites, and they're allowed to keep on keeping on.

    If getting killed by someone and losing your stuff one time was enough to make you quit, then maybe this isn't the game for you.

    You seem pretty conflicted... you really like the heart pounding elements of the game, but you don't seem to be able to handle the consequences of why your heart is pounding in the first place.

    I'd say give it another shot, but you really need to steel your mind to the type of experience your likely to have.  Your going to die... your going to die alot.  Your going to die to players you have no chance of killing or even running away from.  They are going to take your gold, your arrows, your reagents, and pretty much anything else of value.  That's just the way this game is, and you need to accept that from day 1.

    The thing is, you say you "lost everything".  But what did you really have?  Nothing that couldn't easily be replaced.  That's the nature of the game.  Gear is easily aquired and easily replaced.  Even if you don't have someone kill you and take it from you, its just going to break sooner or later anway.

    Bank often, keep stacks of gear ready in your vault, don't carry tons of arrows, reagents, or gold around on you for the first couple months... and dieing is pretty painless.
