I Have Never Been More Intrigued...

RectifyerRectifyer Member Posts: 103

I have never been more intrigued by an MMORPG than by EVE Online. Over the past few days I have been planning to pick up Final Fantasy XI. For something different. Than one thing led to another and I stumbled across the EVE Forums. Than I decided to youtube the game and was thoroughly interested. As I was doing so I clicked on a link to go to the main website which had THE SINGLE MOST INTERESTING introduction video I have ever watched. Hands down I will be picked up this game next pay check. Just wanted to let the community know that this game looks unlike any other crap fantasy BS MMO out there currently. See you all in game someday :)

As you'll learn after you start playing, it is unlike anything you've played before.

You're going to have a lot of information thrown at you in the beginning so be prepared.  I've been playing for a year now and I still don't understand certain aspects of the game.

    Good luck and fly deadly.

there is a tread (think its stickied) in the forums here that you can post in to get a 21 day trial. If noone gets back to ya I can send your one as well, just need an email addy.

  • RectifyerRectifyer Member Posts: 103

I was flooded with responses for the 21 day trial. Already accepted one of them! Thanks though!

A quick question. What benefits does each race/bloodline give? If any at all. Thank you!

  • SequenceLostSequenceLost Member UncommonPosts: 202

Each race has their own "specialties" however your not REQUIRED to fly that races ships.  That said, Caldari ships are missile boats with a minor focus on rail guns (long range weapons).  Amarr are laser weapon based which can change ammo/damage types on the fly but generally use a lot more energy and are harder to "fit".  Gallente are the drone experts and also blaster focused (short range extreme damage).  Minmatar have the quickest ships of the races and use projectile ammo which is short or long range (neither as damaging up close as gallente nor as far of a range as caldari)

hope that helps - if i can answer anything at all for ya feel free to shoot me a PM.

well, the amarr a bunch of back stabbing no good slavers.. so dont pick them

the caldari are militaristic know it alls who have a thing for missiles, but thats because they can't hit a barn door 5 out of 10 times

the gallente arent too bad, a bit flakey and they rely too much on drones..  but not bad sorts

the minmatar, heroic, dependable, striving against the universe in a crusade against tyranny and oppression.. fast guns and faster ships

just because im minmatar though, doesnt mean im biaised in anyway shape or form!

So my interpretation of that statement was this:

*hops on game after accepting trial key*

*other player backstabs me and shoots me down, "Hahahah! Thanks for the free month sucker!"

    */quit*

    jkjk :)

joining a corp is really easy... just hop on the recruitment channel and say your looking for one..

just be prepared for massive amounts of convo requests...  finding a corp is easy.. finding the right corp.. might take a few attempts. but all of them will give you good advice (maybe?) and help getting into the game. you just need to figure out what kind of player you are.. .. and that might take a while too

Can I get a more realistic detailed over view of the different races? And no one answered my question about bloodlines and ancestry!

dont stray from where you pop in when you start game even if a pro want to help you!some in eve like to drag you where its legal to kill and often try very hard to lure you out of starting area!

aside from that its actually a good game.(patience)that word is very important in eve.

It used to make a difference in some start up skills. You can train whatever you want anyways so its more important to research racial ship types and decide what might suit your playstyle.

agree with the patience part. it definitely isnt your typical cookie cutter boring ass MMO where you can just log in for the first time and start owning. its got a pretty big learning curve when you first start out, a LOT of information to take in for the first few days/weeks (depending on how many hours you can get in a day). but once you start picking up on all the little intricacies and details and figure out where you want to go with your skills/training/ships and what sort of player you want to try to be its one of the most rewarding gaming experiences out there right now. it will take you awhile to get used to it if youre used to just playing WoW-type games, but well worth the extra time to master it.

.. er.. actually its in the current game but it is something you need to read up on, you can do that before choosing any particular race. minmatar you can choose brutor or sebiestor tribe, etc, best to go with personal preferences as you can pretty much pick and choose which ships you fly... i fly drakes when ratting for instance...  passive drake tanks are hard to beat..

DUST 514 btw, is probably going to be console only, and i dont think you can choose any particular race, all the same i think.

The only thing race/bloodlines etc. effect are how you look, your starting skills, and some attributes.

Starting skills don't really matter in the long run. Attributes can (and will) be changed as you play the game. The only thing that really matters is what it looks like, so pick one you like in terms of aesthetics or background.

Your starting skills won't matter past the first couple days, and any race can train any skills at any times. Just pick what you like.

I would say, since you can train for anything, there is no practical difference aside from the flavor text that describes each race during character creation. There may be some difference in starting skills, but I'm not really sure since the character creation process changed since the time i went through it.

You miught want to hold off on joining a player corp until thoroughly used to the game. Once you join a corp there is no returning to the noob corp you start in, and those tend to have the best representatives for your case. Also, joining a corp will most likely pull you out to their turf, and that means you'll miss out on doing missions for the many NPC corporations in 1.0 space early on, and you need that money mang.

I would get used to things first (in nooby space), then approach a corp.

Also, bloodlines mean jack - you can fly any ship as any race (yes, you can pew pew lasers in an Amarr ship as a Minmatar np), and work for other races as any race - and the backstory really doesn't show how players act within the ranks of a faction. So take no RPers advice on that one.

I will recommend though, that whatever ship you choose, try to aim for one with a drone bay. Drones are the shit.

    Welcome to EVE!

BTW one thing that is really different about EVE is that pretty much anything that anyone can do to you using purely in-game methods is 'game legal'. The GMs will not help you if you are scammed, tricked, ganked, mocked, cheated, robbed or advised that your mom gives good head.

And there are plenty of people in EVE who will cheerfully do any and all of those things to a day-one noob. The correct response is

    (1) READ any pop-up warnings. Not reading these will get you killed or scammed.

    (2) Dont trust anyone more than you have to. You will at some point have to extend some trust to other players, but dont extend more than you need to to get what you want.

    (3) Dont fly what you can't afford to lose. If you dont remember anything else, remember this.

In terms of gameplay, your starting race makes virtually no difference. Everyone starts with the same stats. Your race & bloodline merely determines where on the map you will start. There is no racial restriction whatsoever on which skills you can train, nor are there any racial bonuses.

So you can choose your race purely for RP reasons. Go with whichever you like the look and sound of.

Sweet! Thanks for all of the replies. I played for a good ten hours or so yesterday with the help of a another forum member on here. The game is unlike anything I have experienced. I agree the learning curve is incredibly steep, but if anyone takes the time and doesn't quit within the first hour they would find immense depth. I went pretty slow making sure to read every single detail and I just finished all of the exploration tutorial quests. I really enjoyed triangulation with the probes. It was almost like a game in itself.  I think today I am going to go with the military tutorial quest and that will probably take me quite a while as well :P Anyways if anyone wants my in game name is Rectifyer!
