PotBS is an unfair comparison. STO doesn't have the same clash of playstyles. A PVE player can roam the galaxy without fear of being ganked. There is no lottery to gain access to fleet battles (unlike what is the case in PotBS). How grindy it is at endgame reamins to be seen, but I'm sure STO will not be as bad as PotBS (no bundles to grind for).

STO ship combat is less magical than in PotBS, but it is also quite repetitive - and the bad GUI is just painful. Avatar combat is bad in both games. But overall I would say STO is a little better.

And yes i was in CB.
Anyone want to say that there are not a lot of bugs? That you lose all of your mission if you crash and have to start from start? That 90% + of game is combat? I might give you that to some the missions would not start off as boring.. but really, how many times can you go to a place kill a few enemies move a bit and do it again 4-5 or more times to complete a mission and still not think that is boring?
If you want to post your opinion please do but just trying to attack others for theirs seems kind of childish.

I'm just making sure that people realize the post history of the OP. If you don't believe me see it for yourself. Even if you were in CB, which I seriously doubt, you couldn't have possibily made it to endgame. I doubt anyone but the biggest haters of the game are going to believe that. Far as proof of what the game is REALLY like, I'll stick with the threads that show ACTUAL in game footage. So far I have seen no crashes or anything of what you folks are claiming.

I said flat out i never made it to end game..no one other than the ones that used exploits did in CB. I did not think using exploits to level would add anything to CB.

Really do not care if you wish to believe i was in CB or not:) from your posts you just are here to bash posters not discuss the game.

    Again to the game:

It is very buggy for a game a couple weeks till release. They just started adding the exploration parts of game at the end of CB. So if you expect that to be bug free and tested much.. well good luck with that:)

Pretty sure any that read these posts will see for themselves who is or is not seeing what is really there.

As far as "kill 5 klingons", I really didn't notice it. You must have skipped all the missions where you do diplomacy or exploration or collecting samples, etc. You must've skipped all the storyline missions too. It's too bad, there's some great story stuff in there.

Luckily, there are videos available on the web that show the truth. Thank the maker for youtube ;)

Kind of agree with this. Partly:)

Both POTBS and STO  Ship combat is similar, and i liked POTBS a bit better as well. As to the ground combat (avatar) i really hated POTBS avatar combat. Sto's is much better than potbs's was, by far.

At the end STO does not suck, it just is not much of a game. And i do not think it would be worth 50 or so bucks for 30 days. I will wait till it hits bargain bin later this year or at next Christmas, and get it for 5-10 bucks for the 30 days. By then they should have the servers working as well as they can, and have more time for bug fixes.

Maybe even have fleshed out other parts that will add something more to the game other than just a combat game. We will see.

The OP is correct on many points raised, but i am intending to stick with sto a bit as i have over a year to wait for ToR.

Im hoping things get improved over time, but i have to admit im worried - this game will be still broken for a hell of a lot of people in 2 weeks.

This is kind of sad.  Is this where we are as consumers yet?  "All MMO's are buggy at launch."  Really?  And we're just cool with this?  Can you imagine going in to buy a new car and you look at the 2010 Civic Si or whatever and the Honda dealer goes, "Well, you know, we have this new model - it's the SSi, but we really haven't tested it properly; it might be a pile of crap; we'll know after it's been out for a few years."

    Yikes.

Vote with your wallets, people.  I, for one, am tired of paying for POS games to go through their testing and beta periods on my dime and my time.  I did it with Fallen Earth - I love that game and yes they're a small indie company and yes I still play but, in all honesty, I probably would have enjoyed the game more had I waited until now to try it - it's a lot more polished.

Aion's US launch presented a game with no "bugs" in the content that I could find, and it ran pretty damn well on most systems out there.  Fallen Earth (again, sorry, but it's the truth) has a difficult time in the tech support department - just look on their tech support forums and it's basically tons of people with problems; in many cases the same problems, with highly technical work-arounds and "fixes" (like reverting back to old drivers, or whatever) posted by die-hard fans of the game.  Not a single actual developer or staff member answering questions...  it's like, wow, pay to play the game and then hop online and do some tech support for us, will ya?  Thanks!

Maybe the answer is to release all games in Korea for 2 years before hitting the US market so we can get something playable at launch; I don't know.  I do know that when consumer expectations fall, so does general product quality.

I love Star Trek and I'll give this game a look but I won't be touching it for at least 6 months so I can get a good grasp on what the player base is saying, what the game is like, and give Cryptic a chance to fix some of the bugs.  I've seen quite a few player generated videos out there and the game looks horrible at points - and it scares me that this is "open beta" - it really looks more like an alpha product at times.  In a few videos I've seen horrendously long load times/load screens, star maps missing text, garbled graphics...  come on people.

    [Mod Edit]

Its only beta in name. When the discs are ready to ship and its 2 weeks before headstart its not beta. This excuse is old and tired especially when a OB happens. Beta these days is a marketing tool as much as testing. Most people dont report a single bug instead they scream that the devs suck and run to forums. I dont really disagree with the OPs design issues as many people share that view but other than some annoying ones there wasnt that many gamebreaking ones.

Discs have nothing to do with beta, just because discs are ready doesn't mean the game can't be ready or fixed up before launch. Either way the second you install you hit their patch server. You're not getting in until your version is up to date. Discs are a moot point in regard to readiness and what the launch game will be like. Try again...
