I have few questions for WoW veterans. I have played WoW from beta days till i dinged lvl 70 and quit. Now,after spending some time with Lotro,WAR,EQ2 etc etc, i decided to come back as none of these games satisfied me.
My questions for u are:
1.PvE: I remember raiding in vanilla wow and it was super awesome, atleast for me. bwl,mc,aq40.all fun instances. has anything changed? has wow truly become ezmode? raining epics everywhere? cause in vanilla wow u could tell who is raiding and who is not.and i liked that.raid=epics, not raid=blues. i red some threads trough the forum and i dont know what to think.. some say it challenging, some say its lame epicfest. i dont wanna end up playing 3 months to find out that pve ,raiding specifically, is mindnumbing and represent absolutely no challenge what so ever for geared players. i actually liked dungeon 40-man gear grindfest and i dont mind that at all.
2.community: r servers still filled with players? is IF full, or any other major town? or cause of the oldness of the game they r all lvl 80 and its wast till 70's,and they r logging in only to raid? i red somewhere that wow servers are practically empty comparing with lotro ones.
3.quest: r they still the same? go kill this, fetch that, bring me stuff or did something actually changed? do u have some motivation doing them except xp?i dont mind that blizzard implemented that quest system that holds ur hand. they just replaced addons, or thottbot.
few things i did mind in tbc were cutting raiding to 25man,but that doesnt matter now, and epicfest. is it still like that? or can u tell the difference between ppl who r doing hardest instances and the ones doing bleh instances and pvp crap.
has the core of wow changed?
please write if i left something important out.
ps. sry for my bad english.
edit: tnx to the guy that answered so quickly but i wanna know r there any raid bosses that require 2-3-4 weeks work? not final bosses but lets say bosses in the middle of the instance? or do they go down the same week they open the instance? im talking about 25man
i loved that part. i would h8 to see bosses in higher instances downed within a week.. sk and nihilum dont count

The pve is kind of a matter of opinion. It's true that it's a lot easier to get epics but you still have to know all the fights and everything. There servers are definitly brimming with life and the new quests they added in Wotlk are sick, search the battle for undercity on youtube for example
It seems to me that Blizzard is doing something different with having people re- roll toons. Because I started a new Warrior on my old server and after the starting zone, all the lower end stuff were empty, even when I did a /who to find groups to do dungeons their were not a lot.
I had no choice but re-re roll on another server HOWEVER this time, it had " new player servers", in yellow for pvp and pve, and they were packed in the starting zones and lower level stuff. Maybe it was always like that but I don't think so !
My guess is that original server I belonged to will be marked " new player " soon also.
You won't be disappointed in this regard. Yes IF and Stormwind are always filled with players, but many of them will be lvl 80's checking the AH or whatever. Still there are enough players in the lower level zones to find someone to quest with if you are willing to put forth a little effort. You may have to solo a bit and then hook up with someone when you find them doing some of the same quests as you. When you find someone that you enjoy playing with, see if they are in a guild and see if you can get an invite. Guilds are the best way to give yourself a few people to run with, but all guilds are not the same and you may have to jump from guild to guild a bit to find what you are looking for. Another way to find a group is to use the Dungeon Finder tool to run an instance and then try to form some friends that way although with it being cross-realm that may be a bit difficult.
He meant "slick" of course )
I'm pretty sure he meant sick.
You need to update your urban dictionary there Zorn ;-p
can you guys answer on the PvE question. im most interested in that.

I think he meant "sick" as in a positive type of slang.

You get good gear (tier9, currently best is tier10 from ICC) from running 5-man instances, and yes it's all epic gear from 5-man content. You can also gear up very quickly if you want because of new LFG system (very well done). As for raids, ICC (last major raid in woltk) has gated content:
" Icecrown Citadel is going to be broken up into four distinct sections: The Lower Spire, Plagueworks, Crimson Hall, and Frostwing Halls. We plan on releasing these four sections of Icecrown Citadel over time and not all immediately when patch 3.3.0 goes live. At this point I can't give precise dates for these release dates as they are determined by when patch 3.3.0 goes live. Once dates are known with more certainty, I'll update the community so they can plan appropriately. The first section that opens will include the Lord Marrowgar, Lady Deathwhisper, Icecrown Gunship Battle, and Deathbringer Saurfang encounters. Progress beyond that point will be prevented for several weeks. Then the Plagueworks will open with Rotface, Festergut, and Professor Putricide becoming available. After another period of time, the Crimson Hall will open and you can then fight the Blood Princes and Blood-Queen Lana'thel. The final Frostwing Halls unlock then occurs after that, making Valithria Dreamwalker, Sindragosa, and the Lich King available. We believe a staggered release of the content will allow players to experience Icecrown Citadel at a sustainable, measured, and ultimately more enjoyable pace. "
When it released in beginning of december you got 4 bosses, after a month you got 3 more and now it seems they are releasing rest in 2 weeks from each other. So you get Lich King in beginning of february. These are normal mode bosses and hard modes can only be unlocked after you kill Lich King in normal mode. They also have limited number of attempts:
"Raids will have a limited number of attempts total each week to defeat the four most difficult encounters in Icecrown Citadel: Professor Putricide, Blood-Queen Lana'thel, Sindragosa, and the Lich King. As these boss encounters are unlocked, the number of attempts available per week will increase."
Now it's 10/week for Putricide. Not everyone is happy with limited attempts, some discussion in wow forums: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22418858152&sid=1
I'm casual raider (4-10h per week) and I liked raiding in vanilla and tbc alot more then I like it in wotlk. In vanilla and tbc (bosses like vashj and kael) you got great feeling when you finally get them down and you felt that you have actually accomplished something, not just got some shiny epic. In wotlk you get easy bosses in normal mode and when you get to hard modes you feel you have "done" it already and it doesn't feel any rewarding to get same boss down again.
I cancelled my sub in end of december cos I didn't like gated content and limited attempts. Also raiding wasn't fun for me anymore. I may come back when Lich King is released or just wait for cata.
To sum it up, yes there is easy way to get epics and yes there is very hard content (several weeks/months to get some hard mode bosses down, if you get them at all), but is it rewarding (and no I don't mean gear) as vanilla/tbc, well to me... not even close.

Like I said: the rewards lay now in the status of mounts, titles and achievements (and somewhat in the Legendary items).
People have to stop thinking in OLD terms of "epic" is purple.
If you don't want to do the hard modes to get the TIMELESS awards (or you simply can't do them because of lack of group skills in your guilds), don't complain.
That's your decision.
We see the same mentality here we witnessed in the Arena play.
Those who were beaten in the hard Arena rating system complained they couldn't "get there". Blaming it on balance, arena, etc.
All but themselves.
The same with the blue above. Apparently some people mix up "long term time investment" with skill.
We see the same discussions with so called world PvP. There is nothing about "skill" involved, it is just a clever way of saying "I want to be rewarded because I have 1000 times more "time" on my hands for getting "attuned" or "grinding".
These are new times. 100 times better than the basement dwelling of pre-historic mmo gaming.
Skill in group play for PVE actually matters these days to get to the ULTIMATE achievements.
In the old days it was just TIME sinks.
The reward I meant was not titles, gear or mount, It's that feeling you get when you get something done right. I don't know how much you have raided, but I have since vanilla and I felt more rewarding (still not meaning gear or titles.. ) in vanilla and tbc. Most memorable boss kills were ragnaros and vashj, vent was all mad when we down those bosses. In woltk when we got Sartha 3D or Tribute to insanity there was no real joy after we got bosses down. And it also shows in vent. If you raid just for gear, titles or mounts, you are doing something wrong. You should have FUN when raiding and feel rewarded for downing bosses for also other reasons then gear, titles or mounts. Atleast for me woltk killed that fun and feeling of accomplish I got when raiding in vanilla or tbc.
Quite a lot has changed. I think it's pretty much been said already in the thread, but just in case:
1) The biggest change is that 40-man raiding is gone. Maximum raid size is now 25-man, and all raids can also be done as 10-man.
2) Raiding is definitely easier now than it was in Vanilla WoW. For example, you never need any resistance gear in current raids, unlike Vanilla WoW where certain fights required full sets of fire resist or nature resist gear. Coordination is also easier simply due to the smaller raid sizes. And you no longer have to do long quest chains to unlock instances, obtain keys, or achieve raid attunements.
3) All raids now have multiple "levels" of difficulty (10-man normal, 10-man heroic, 25-man normal, 25-man heroic). Similarly, all 5-man instances have normal and heroic modes. Generally, nobody starts out right away doing hard mode, so you are eased into the content by starting off with the lesser challenge.
4) All raids now drop "badges" which are a type of currency used to buy gear, including the current tier 10 set items. There is also a daily quest to get 2 of the highest level badges every day doing regular instances. What this means is that it is technically possible to obtain a full set of tier 10 without ever raiding. It would take about a year to get it that way if you did a daily instance every day.
5) With Icecrown Citadel, they're doing something different again. For this raid they are unlocking the instance one wing at a time. So to start out we had 4 bosses to fight. Then a few weeks later they opened up 3 more. And this will go on for the next couple months until we get to Arthas.
Well, it's definitely much much easier than it used to be. There are still challenges to be found, however. 25-man raiding and heroics do present a decent challenge. What makes it seem like WoW is super casual now is that almost everyone will get to see all of the raid content because 10-man normal mode is pretty easy to get through.
No, this is certainly not the case anymore, unfortunately. EVERYONE has epics. They drop in instances and they can be obtained with badges fairly easily.
Endgame gear is divided out now more by item level than the green/blue/purple color code. Currently there are ilvl 200 epics obtained from instances and low level badges all the way up to ilvl 277 dropped from heroic Icecrown Citadel raid. Item level is shown now on every item, so you can still tell who has been raiding and who hasn't.
Most servers are well populated. Major cities are full of players. Dalaran will make your FPS drop due to the crowds. Most servers have several active guilds. Despite what people say, I think WoW has a strong community... but of course you certainly want to get into a guild to make sure you are around good people.
Quests did improve quite a bit in Wrath of the Lich King. There is a lot more variety.
Well, yes and know. As it has been said, normal mode is pretty easy. Might be a challenge for a week or so but nothing major. Heroic mode is harder, and could take some time for a guild to complete. But none of it is on the level of Vanilla WoW.
thanks all u guys for replying me and hlping me decide wether to play again or not.
lol? limited attempts? they wanna buy more time for cata i guess. by far stupidest thing blizz did. i guess ill stick to wow.. wow way of raiding and getting gear is still best suiting for me. so ill guess up from beginning to 80!
also..how it will run on my machine: 2.16 C2D, 4gb ddr3, hd4650 1gb gddr3, 1366x768?
im playing trial and all is on high except shadows with 4AA. and it shows 60fps all the time. never below 40. but its stuttering.. can it be cause of slow connection, cause game is downloading as i play.. that streaming client option. speed is 100kb/s
That would be my guess. You're PC shouldn't be stuttering playing WoW other than in certain cases like being in Dalaran where the amount of player data to load is tremendous.
