I am sick to death of these companies wanting u to pay for a game before u can even try it mmorpg wise this can be a waste of money, wiht console games u just take them back to the store and get a refund. EVen just one weekend just so i can see if runs good or not. Anyway most games that want you to pay to get in the beta are massive fails. What are you guys thoughts on this.

Why should a company allow you into open beta to "test" the game when they have more than enough people for that with pre-orders and fileplanet subs? Wait several months after launch for the trial.
I personally don't mind paying for it, i read up on the site what the game was and have been enjoying it since the pre-order beta started.
If you buy GA through Steam you can get a refund as long as you request it before 31st Jan, so there is your out if you want to see what it is like before you commit.
Just on that point, it is beta, you are there to spot and report bugs it's not a trial. I am assuming that most of the people who are in the beta with me are there for the same reason and that is that they like the idea of the game, see the potential and wish to help spot bugs whilst playing.
Either way try it or don't your choice.
cause by the time a trial comes out for a game it's to late to start imo, you will be to far behind others to compete in a pvp game. I just think they are trying to hide something.
You can take console games back that have been opened and get a refund? What stores, doesn't seem to be the ones I visit.
You can wait for a free trial, or take a chance and 'waste' the 40 or 50 bucks that it might cost you to see how it goes.

Well, I think it just hurts themselves but not doing one since there are those that are adamant about trying something out before they commit to buying. However, even if this game did have keys available it wouldn't phase me in the least since I'm not interested in the game at all.
Not the wisest move on their part in my opinion, but frankly I don't really care one way or the other.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

Why should High Rez or any other company give something away for free that others are willing to pay for? Right or wrong, its still a business. The NDA has been lifted, plenty of info out there, people just want to try something for free.
NDA was lifted, how are they hiding something? Hiding the chance for you to play for free perhaps?
I don't believe they ever mentioned on not having an open beta, its just not there yet.
Of course they do. What else is new? Just seems to me that in doing so you increase the potential for those to purchase your product and the publicity that comes when these things kick off. You see plenty of companies offering keys for free that also offer them through preorders and the such.
Like I said before, doesn't bother me that there aren't any, but I think it hurts themselves. Minimally, of course, I'm not trying to suggest they're doomed because they aren't doing so.

I highly doubt we will see the return of lengthy free open betas when money can be made from charging for beta access. I just wish more companies would allow the system where you get beta access for $5 deposit on a pre order, that way if you do not like it, your only out $5 not $50.
open beta would not be playing for free since it would not be on the release date. They have announced there will be no open beta btw on the website. I haven taken many new gams back u just have to do it the sameday u get it at my gamestop anyway and they will give u credit for the full cost of it and credit is better then sorry are game sucks but we are keeping your money cause we fail. The 5 dollar pre order i do not mind but getting rip for 50 bucks is just a scam and soon someone will get mad enough abnd have the money to actually take it to court and they will win the case. You can't tell someone this do this and it doesn't it is against the law.
I haven't payed for any of the betas I've been in. It really only benefits them as 2 of the betas I was in caused me to purchase their game whereas otherwise I probably would not have.
Having said that though, I agree with you that betas as they used to be are a thing of the past and it would not surprise me if in the not too distant future it does become standard practice that the ONLY way you're going to get into beta is if you've made some type of commitment to purchasing the game or you get into the beta process at the very beginning. All in all I can't even completely blame the companies really since people are apparently more than willing to pay to do so.
However, I'm not entirely sure it's a wise move for lesser known games to go this route but time will tell.

Such a B.S. reason you put down here...
Any game has people starting all through its lifetime, especially a game like this. It's a FPS is it not? I've also heard gear makes no difference in how well you can do, so what would the time you start playing have to do with anything? If you have to be one of the first, you are going to have to buy it, plain and simple. If not I am sure they won't miss you much, those playing probably won't either.
As someone pointed out earlier whether you personally won't buy it really makes no difference, because plenty of people will. If you need a trial on day one to decide if a game is for you, how do you play much of anything? Very few games offer a trial on launch day.

i pre-ordered the game so i could test it out. Wasn't too sure if I'd like it or not. I'm glad I did. I'm currently loving this game. this is what Planetside should have been done like.
Could someone please link me to where it says there would be no beta because i honestly can't find it.
Well it sure is obvious that you didn't look for informations about the game before creating that thread...
Level 1-30 give you talent points that you can invest in a talent tree. Level 31-100 is just to brag, you don't get any advantage after level 30.
It shouldn't take much time even for a casual player to get to 30... so i don't see why you are QQing
first of all, i am one of those people that don't care about if games have open betas, if theres a game that really takes my fancy i will just buy it.
secondly i got the latest edition of PC Gamer and they have got a preview of Global Agenda, they say and i quote, "you will hit max lvl in 20hours". Now not being funny but i read into this that there may not be alot of longetivity in the game.. but could be wrong.
no open beta = afried ppl will play it and not buy it.... thats my view of it. may or may not be true
Why should players pay to do Q&A? When you pay to play a game, it no longer is a beta. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

Players NEVER pay to do Q&A. You might pay for a shitty game, but that doesn't mean you're paying for a beta, doing Q&A or anything else besides playing a shitty game.
And your shitty game is someone else's fun evening of computer gaming, so by your argument we could say a finished game has never in the history of computer games been released, because there will ALWAYS be someone that think the game is shitty no matter what it is.

I agree. As long as NDA is lifted there's always plenty of reviews, good and bad, for you to make a decision on buying the game.
I wouldn't buy something still under NDA, but after NDA is dropped I certainly have enough info with reviews and screen shots to make up my mind whether to buy or not.
No open beta or no free trial -> it's not worth buying. Learned that first hand, I did.

But why do most people pay for that fileplanet sub or preorder? Because the promise of beta.
That is kind of surprising, since retailers make no money on video game sales. I would think they would accept all returns and give the customer store credit, and hope that the customer spent it on items that do have a margin of profit.
Eh I'll wait for a free trial... I've yet to experience a moment in my life where it was ruined because I didn't pre-order a game so I could beta it. If a game isn't going to let me try before I buy, no worries for me. Sure it kinda sucks... like I'd like to know if Darkfall is a game I could really enjoy. I've learned that playing the game is a lot different from watching vids or taking people's words for it, and just don't have the disposable income I used to 15 years ago.
I'm intrigued by Global Agenda... I liked Planetside and I loved the fast paced fun Tribes 2 offered. *shrugs* we'll see.
