Through the holiday season i stumbled upon the Fallen Earth Trial and decided to give it a try. I just reached the Trial level cap and would like to share some impressions with the community.
First of all, I cannot understand all the flaming about the GFX. The graphics are fine and I would compare it to tabula rasa, maybe slightly better. The setting of the game looks authentic and it gives you a Post Apoc feeling if you ride your horse through shattered buildings or vast deserted landscapes with ruins of factories or other left over signs of civilization. The soundtrack is also very nice, the guitar sound reminds me of Diablo 2.
What really got me in this game is the crafting system, at first it was kind of challenging since you find a lot of stuff from scavenging, and at first you don’t know what to do with it, so just put it in the vault and see when you can use it. By level 10 I was only carrying stuff that I did on my own: Running Horse, quite OK armor I think Reinvorced Vest plus shoulder pads, and two Heavy Zip guns that I made myself, also two revolvers and Boots, Gloves etc. Crafting is very rewarding in that game and that’s what can really get you into it. Also the Recipe´s books for more advanced LVL3 stuff get more and more expensive, I never ran out of money and could afford to buy some materials from the merchant if I didn’t have them at hand like fasteners etc. But I used 95% the stuff that I got from scavenging and mining.
Character developing is also well made, it gives you lots of freedom and you really have to think where you spend you APs on. Basically I made a Tech build with pistols, and some points on INT that I needed to be able to scavenge stuff of level 50. I worked a lot on my trading skills like armor, ballistic, even cooking and science to be prepared to make my own ammunition for the revolvers that do quite good damage compared to the heavy Zip Guns. By my surprise I didn’t do too much damage, and also took quite a lot of damage from enemies of my lvl. I don’t know if I messed up with something, I always maxed Armor Use, Pistols and dodge and had about skill lvl 50 at lvl 10. Did I do anything wrong here? (Comments welcome). The good thing about Zip Guns is that you can make your own ammunition very cheap so you don’t run out of money. What I found out is that the pistols don’t really do a lot of damage compared to Melee for example but I spend so many points on pistols that I was kind of too late to switch back to Melee, as a crafter I would definitely recommend Melee the damage is much higher, at least at the beginning.Well of course you should always try to shoot to the head to finish enemies off fast. I read some comments about the aiming system and combat in general, and I have to admit that it doesn’t really feel like in an FPS, I think it could need some uprade, since I felt it a little bit sluggish indeed (But of course FE is an MMO in the first place).
Another good point is the community I have to say, there is always active chatting in the help channel, and people are always willing to help and share their knowledge. So far it seems that FE has one of the best communities that I experienced in an MMO and that is a big part I would say. I think it would be a good idea to improve the combat system a little bit, since the criticism at this point is real. I didn’t experience PVP yet, but I could think that the aiming and the mechanics of combat could be a little bit of a downer, I mean it is not completely messed up, but could need some TLC.
After all, to play the game is fun, it kind of sucks you in. Is possibly one of the best MMO´s out there, here and there it needs some polish, but has tons of potential I would recommend it to everyone who appreciates a good crafting system and wants to spend some time with it. For ppl who just want to powerlevel there might be better picks out there.

About armor/weapons: are you using the right requirement lvl of your weapons/armor?
Say you have Armor Use skill lvl 45, then make sure you are wearing Armor with lvl requirement of 45, press G, mouseover your armor/weapons to read it's requirement lvl's.
I helped many people who had Armor Use skill lvl 30/45, yet where wearing Armor with requirement lvl 9/15 (same goes for weapons), this will get you killed allot, also take care of your armor and weapons as your condition (after lvl5) goes down when you die, use repair kits.
Armor repair, Weapon repair(melee) Ballistic Repair (Ranged)
Also: make sure you upgrade your ability's/mutations, visit mutagenic/combat/physical/social trainers to buy new ability/mutations.
Hope this helps you survive better in FE
Of course if you have done all this and still are dying very often, duo with someone or get in a group, or just be more carefull......
Yeah the game is fun. Not for everyone but for quite a lot of people. The recent graphics update is really neat too. And my "let's play fallen earth" is now around part 80. :P
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
Hey Reklaw, thanks for your annotations. I made this screenshot on the skill + gear. Would like to hear some comment, especially about the skilllevel of pistol, armor use, dogde. Is that OK for LVL10 or did i messed it up, i mean how much should it be at that point? As pistols i am using Mark II PBG ATM. Going to make Plattmaster Avenger maybe today....

Hey and you're welcome. But before I start I want to let you know it will be pretty hard since you on trial which doesn't let you use auction or trade, unless you going into Armor craft aswell.
Well, first of all what I noticed it the t-shirt, unable to see what lvl you have there but have a feeling it's a lower then lvl 30 requirement t-shirt, requirement lvl 30 shirts have longsleeves, unfortunaly no higher req. shirt just yet ingame then the 30's one
Secondly the Jacket which seems to be requirement lvl 33, should be replaced with a reuirement lvl 45 Torso.
3rd, the shoes need to be replaced with boots, also lvl 45 requirement, you up the lvl to use these things
4rd, Besides handarmor at your Armor use lvl you can also get: Upper and Lower arm armor, they fit in the 2 slots above your hands. also need both sides left/right, just like hands. Not sure what type of gloves/hands you using but check/mouseover them to see it's requirement lvl as you did showing your jacket. But regardless make sure they are requirement lvl 45 as you CAN use them.
5th, Also get some either mouth-armor or glasses they fit in the top left corner slot, there are several glasses/mouth armor to choose from at your Armor use lvl make sure they compliment your weapon use ability's, for example certain glaswear can add some + perception.
6th, Check out requirement lvl on your pants/legs as I think you need to get better ones but like said at Shirts unable to see what kind of pants/legs you are wearing.
As far your pistols go they do fine and fit your requirement lvl equals skill lvl.
And your Skill stats are good, it's the armor you wear that will make the difference.
As said it might be hard to get these items on a trial account due to no trade/auction, but if you consider going full account it would be wise to check auction or speak to me ingame Wouldn't really advicee if going full account to take Armor craft aswell cause it will gimp you for pvp, unless you not into PVP you don't have much to worry if you might take up Armor craft. But keep in mind only 4 max Skills/Stats/Tradeskills
Hope this helps.......
First: Fallen Earth has a free trial!?
Second: From what I understand, you can fight in either first or third person view. Is this always a case? Will certain weapons force you into first person? Is first person the only viable way to fight in, say, PvP? And is combat fluid and fun?
You talked about crafting, but only briefly mentioned combat.
Hey Reklaw, thanx for your advise. I am really thinking to go full these day. I just downloaded STO: Open Beta, and i want to try it out at least before i make a choice. Like i said i made all these things myself, which was really fun, i need 3 points to armorcraft to make better armor = reinvorced vest. Thanks to remind me for the left out slots, totally forgot about the upper arm and the glasses (they are science arent they?). I wasnt sure about my skilllevel, thought i kind of didnt put enough points on it, since i used some AP for INT. That was my main concern.

Cool. Everything looks worse when you're only watching it, so I'll try it for myself. Thanks.
Edit: And I like seeing relatively new games offering trials quickly. I thought the OP might've been talking about a buddy key or something.
You can actually switch between 3rd and 1st person perspective by zooming in and out. I mostly fought in 3rd person view, but for opening combat the 1st person perspective (or zoomed in) is better since you can better aim at the head, which makes a lot more damage. Well the combat is generally fluid and fun, but -as mentioned- you cannot compare it to, lets say Modern Warfare. I personally think it could need some upgrade here and there, but i dont want to spam, just download the 10-Day free trial and make a picture yourself. As i can really recommend this game so far....

I'll sub to FE when I don't have to pay for the client first. I enjoy the game, but IMO it's not worth the money...yet.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
Only buy a game when YOU feel it's seems worth it to you. If the game is fun I would see no reason to not buy the client, it's not like this game is made out of thin air or something. Unless it's a personal financiall issue where some might simply not have the cash to just buy a game they feel might end up not liking which is something else then feeling it's not worth it.
I always untill Champions and Aion always bought the game on release and after that I would consider if the games where worth the sub-fee, wich both turned out to be a mistake on my part to buy them. Those are truly the last time I will buy a MMORPG as they where very disappointed games towards the gamestyle I have. I don't blame them tho as it is my own responsibility of having bought those games.
Fallen Earth is far from being some sort of RMT game where they might have gotten more cash thru cash shops, so in my opinion buying hte client just helps them continue with this game.
But like I said if a game is not fun then it will not be worth buying the client, if a game is fun then what's stopping you
I totally agree with you reklaw. I just got a little bit more careful in terms of buying a game, since my last MMO´s that i bought were a real bummer. First AoC which got nerfed to a point where i just didnt want to play anymore and which had an awful community, then tabula rasa, which got shut down a month later! FE is much different as far as i can see now, so i want to support the company with my money in a way, that they are able to continue their good work - if they do good work!.

There are alot of deals floating around on the client right now for as low as $24.99USD.
That's what I paid for it on steam I believe and well worth the investment. If you're willing to sub, then $24.99 is only a month and a half worth of sub cost and you get 30 days free when you buy it so technically you'd only be out $10 for picking up the client.
Of course you have to do what is right for you, but I thought I'd let you know those specifics.
Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst!
10 day free trial which requires no CC information unlike many other games out there. Also, if you upgrade to a full subscription prior to the end of the trial, the free month clock doesn't start until your trial would have ended. Nice touch, IMO and something that I highly praise. I don't recall any other game finishing the trial timer before beginning the free month/paid time.
A side note, as a trial member, you are capped at level 10. However, you have access to all zones you wish to venture to and if you do the extended tutorial, you'll get a horse to ride around and explore with. The only other limits are that you can not use the auction house or mail system on a trial. This is to protect the subscriber base, though it would be nice if trial users could at least use some basic function of these services... perhaps in the future!
If you're on the fence about this game, do the trial and give it a real chance. Ask questions in game, read the official forums and most importantly, have fun!
