apparently DUST 514 is going to be part of the soveriegnty control of different sectors.. with mercenaries being hired by corps/alliances within Eve..  its a shame its going to be only on console. but will have to wait and see if it doesnt come out on the pc as well.

While I think the crossover potential is genius, and can tie into tons of things from the EVE side of things (producing arms, etc) I have one issue about putting dependency on people playing a console game. If the PC side of the EVE universe can go on even half as long as it has so far, they cannot expect a console game to keep up. 2+ years down the line people won't be playing the same game systems, let alone the same game... and the FPS market on consoles is pretty saturated as is. I'm sure it'll be an interesting experience in the beginning, but over the long road I doubt people other than EVE players themselves will be hopping in the same console shooter day in and day out to keep territory.

Yea, console gamers seem to play a game to beat it and then move on to the next...

I'm not much into FPS as it is, and since I got a PC I've really kinda neglected my consoles...

    and to Masao83...

calm down and check my posts buddy...i think it's obvious I'm not some console loving troll...hahaha

I infer that CCP think that they can change that, at least with some console players.  Most console games only really support the "beat it and move on" lifestyle. Once you have 'beaten' the game, what else is there to do? Come to think of it, the same goes for most PC games too, including many MMOs. The combination of a persistent universe plus player politics can be extremely addictive. If your Dustmerc Clan loses a battle, you lose something visible to everyone on the map. You'll want to know who hired them. You'll want revenge. There will, in short, be a metagame.

And you wont be able to just quit out of a match that you're losing in order to stop losing. You actually have to commit to a fight, because if you lose then, well, you've lost the territory and you dont get paid. That will add an element of spice (pun intended) that most other console FPS cant provide, just as EVE's death penalty adds an intensity most other MMOs lack.

Somewhere (can't quote) CCP said that they will expand the game just as the do with EVE. This includes re-releasing the game for new gen consoles when the time comes if it will help maintain the playerbase.

Dust will possibly bring a lot of firsts to the console scene. Persistent RTS/FPS, regular expansions, true multi-platform game sessions, external feedback to/from a PC MMO...

If CCP manages to keep the game as fresh (either from design or content) a few months after release as when it comes out I don't see why this console game can't retain a healthy portion of its playerbase.

(At the very least it will be propped up by Big Alliance alts - j/k.. or am I)

Seems as if there is a lot of depth to it...I'm sure I'll give it a shot when it comes out...whenever that may be...

Is there a target release date yet?

I'm really interested in seeing how this turns out. I obviously have my doubts, since I know many a console player who move from one game to the next as soon as I turn away. Still, I cant wait to try it out.
