Does that look any more inviting? ;-)
I guess that they are only going to put it in two major areas of the world in the next patch, and test it out with players vs the world without the foliage to make sure it doesn't cause lag, etc.

do you have smaller ones plix? w can see better
I also hear MO might even get a working patch system in the next 6 months.
I win!!! LOL@U
The grass is really lifting the environments in MO. It was really nice outside Fabernum. I can now also run with medium shadows on my 3,5 year old comp without lag.
PS: The patcher works for me.
By work do you mean having to download the entire game every patch?
I win!!! LOL@U
No, I did not realize that this patch was already implemented yesterday.
I am booting up the game as I type this, and the game is actually auto-patching itself and downloading the updated content.
Another good fix looks like.
... This is all good news so far :-)

Looks nice on their development screens. Unfortunately since there will probably be little to no testing (just like the rest of the features -- ie, theivery) and they will just toss it in the game, it's going to cause more problems than it fixes.
Great! glad to see they are spending their time adding grass and wind instead of balancing the massive weapon imbalances, actually making leather armor useful and fixing the 8 billion bugs they've introduced since the "god" patch.
But no, no, real happy to see wavy grass in fab...
This logic unfortunately, is lost on a lot of people since they keep clamoring for "features" and forget that there isn't really a game to play.
Having grass in the game isn't going to make it any more fun guys.
Just to make the game look good before launch so more people will buy it.
The new screens do look great. They really do need to break down and give us a 3rd person view so I can have an excuse to try it out.
Yeah. The new grass is awesome! Loving it!
nope, works just fine.
nope, works just fine.
It's not in the game yet, is it?
And I was only relating it as a point like they did the system of theivery, almost no testing and lots of problems. Heck, the flagging system is the core of the game and it's still broken. LOL

its in game. hmm ya, they test things in beta, how odd. and just because something got small bugs doesnt mean its broken, a broken feature is feature that do not work at all, or even if it works its not working as intended, the few small bugs the flagging system bugs are no where near to being broken.

Foliage breathes life into the world. A living breathing fantasy world adds to the fun because you become more immersed.
I agree. These new screenshots with the foliage make those areas look a lot more appealing.
There are online worlds that are little more then environments for people to socialize in. If MO can do just one more thing then those online social environments then that is a plus in my opinion.
In other words, regardless of what features are not in the game, it is a beautiful world which they seem to be actively trying to bring to life, piece by piece. In its current form it is a nice environment for social interaction in an online world, regardless of how interactive that world is at present.
Look up all the 2nd Life variations, MO is far from being as bad as some of the stuff that is out there currently.

Hey, if it makes you happy I'm sure it's great.
I think a lot of people are instead wondering why they aren't just polishing and fixing the existing features, rather than adding eyecandy to the world.

isn't that 2 different teams? art for eye candy and programmers for features?

Yes, but if you add new systems into the game you cause more problems for the entire game. This is why beta means "feature complete", because they don't want to introduce things that will break the build if it is working. Unfortunately, since SV doesn't know anything about proper software development life cycles, they just keep adding stuff in on a regular basis and keep saying it's beta. It's not.
That said, I would have given the art team a vacation so I could save some cash, and hired a consultant or something to help on the programming side of things so they get that shaken out. Also, the existing artists could just be transformed into an internal QA team as well, because they are a small team they have to be agile and able to move (last dev blog said as much). There are a lot of options on how to improve the core of the game, without worrying about minor things like swaying grass. I don't think anybody will leave if there isn't swaying grass. I know a lot of people who will leave if the combat sucks, or magic is broken, or crafting is broken, or the flagging system is broken. And since ALL those things are broken, I'd say they are making all the wrong moves.
But it's theirs to make. I can't wait for launch.
I have been playing outside Fabernum and the grass really makes a difference. It adds lots to the game experience.
When do they work on an installer for the game?
Suppose to be one on the dvd they shipped out 3 weeks ago, not sure why they don't release it now...
So... grass... ya...
How about a working game?
Did they say anything about that?
