War of Legends: Game Introduction Preview

Jagex, the company best known for their popular MMO Runescape, debuts as a publisher with this new MMORTS title, War of Legends. Today, Carolyn Koh takes a look at the game and introduces it to us for the first time.

War of Legends is Runescape developer Jagex's first foray into publishing. An MMO-RTS game, they discovered it when they outsourced some of the graphics of Runescape HD with the game's developers in China. Having worked with them before and finding the game fit well into their own business model and plans, they decided to partner with them to localize and publish the game in the US and Europe.

"We took a good look at genre in the western market and found it heavy with Arthurian / Roman / Fantasy and Tolkienesque themes," said Adam Tuckwell, Head of Communications at Jagex, with COO Rob Smith adding that they liked the back story that's based on Chinese Legend and Myth. The game is fully developed and about six months into its launch in China with Jagex localizing it for the western market.

Decided to try it out for kicks and giggles, but it's been twenty minutes and I still can't find a username they'll allow. From Magicianary to 314159265358, EVERYTHING is taken! I even tryed just smashing my keyboard, and the random letters were taken too, hah.

Looks like Evony, except not created by wacky criminals, and no boob ads.

MMORTS would be so much cooler if you didn't have to build on such a predetermined grid.

One of the most appealing aspects of an RTS for me is designing the layout of the base. You take that out and its basically just a numbers game.

Screenshots make it look like Travian, Ikariam, or Evony. There are a few others i've seen flashed on facebook also.

As I read the article, I honestly thought this was going to end with....JUST KIDDING, this is a Travian review.

This is a 100% Travian clone with newer graphics.

Are they going to charge for this? Yikes.

It is really a problem, since the runescape database is begin used, and runescape have around 150 milions accounts created, it will be really hard to get a name, try your entire name. Luck the guys that have a runescape account xD

It sure is, unique great difference is the in game chat xD

By experience (played runescape since the first and was playing the second one till 2 years ago), jagex always upgrade their games to make it good, so we can expect the game to get really good in some time.

I have been playing travian too since the release and nothing really changed, not really important on the mechanics I mean, well, I am a fan of jagex work, so will be sure looking foward to WoL.

Weird another MMORTS with "of Legends" in the name, seems the genre is becoming more common.

But if anyone wants to try an rts that is actually good, check out League of Legends, has alot of varietity and fairly decent gfx, oh and it's FREE :D~

The game is good, but Runescape is much better. Maybe this game will be really interesting to the chinese people. Here is another review of War of legends - http://freemmorpgnodownload.net
