Its a shame...its probably a really fun game...

but after i dont even remember how many attempts using three techniques and several hours later i couldn't even get the client downloaded and installed. it really is a shame because i think alot of people did or would find this game appealing but several years after launch the downloader is still broke?

Try uninstalling and installing the java client. I had trouble with it. taking it out fully and then reinstalling the java client might help.
