I just work nowadays. Haven't subscribed to an MMO for well over 6 months now and haven't tried any free trials for any either. Instead of gaming I just get out of the house, read, go for a drive to places I wanted to go but never got around to. Doesn't look like any future games will grab my attention much. You're not alone.

As an FYI i play one night 'Harcore" my monday night 8pm to 2am fest.. then play maybe a total of 5 hrs during the week. I use to play 20-40 hrs a week but that was 2 atleast 2 years ago. I can't beleive how easy these games are now..

The animations on Darkfall are fine. Maybe it was/is your video card? or maybe you haven't tried it since beta?
People say the exact same things about Fallen Earth. And I love the look of BOTH of those games. Many of the people that complain about Fallen Earth's graphics ALSO haven't played since the beta or before the graphics updates, but they're determined to maintain their opinions regardless, and they never even CONSIDER that it could be their lacking computer....lol.
I think they don't like the way the characters move, but whatever. To each their own. Personally, I think the best two MMOs out right now ARE probably Darkfall and Fallen Earth, (and a nod to EVE, for people that like the space genre and don't mind not being able to see their bodies). But those three games probably get more "hate comments" than any other games besides WoW. You couldn't FIND three games that are LESS like WoW and yet still....the haters abound.
So you know....I've given up on the idea of CARING when someone else gets bored, or burnt out on the genre, or the millions of other things that keep people from enjoying some game. If you don't like anything that's out there....do you really have any option, outside of making your OWN game, than to wait? No...not really. Then again....there's always the option of coming here to daydream about what your perfect game would be whilst tearing down every other game out there that simply isn't your cup of tea. And the latter....is what most MMORPG.com members do. It doesn't really fix anything, but maybe it makes them feel better for a few minutes.
Well I am a grandpa also. I am in the same situation you are. I imagine there is some burnout but I think its mostly the crap they call MMOs' today and the ADHD players.
Just did a dungeon run in a MMO and the stupid tank would not stop and let us mana users regain our mana. The healer told him to stop for a minute and to get mana or the heals would stop. He died and we got our mana break,
Also we had a rogue that spent most of his time jumping instead of fighting. Whats up with that ??
I gave up on MMOs once but I came back. If things don't change I may just go back to my Xbox and single player games.
Thats what im doing. I picked up a PS3 after the price drop last fall and use it more than I thought I would. I still have a sub to an MMO but when I feel like playing a game I usually play a console game.

Agreed with the above. I am waiting as well but I have too many other interests to get depressed about it. Its hard sometimes though, expecially when MMO Gaming is my favorite hobby. But with the glut of inferior games out there theres nothing else to do but wait and hope.

Can you explain why the animations are so bad that the fact that there is A) first person combat, no targeting, C) free for all PvP, D) no instancing, E) massive battles over 1000 people isn't worth it?
To me, the animations are fine. Could they use work? Well absolutely, and that's probably EXACTLY what Darkfall 2010 is all about. They already said they're working on a large graphics overhaul and DX11 support, so it's only going to get better.
Either way, the combat in Darkfall is so many leaps and bounds above any other MMO out on the market that no crappy animations could take that away from me.
Gameplay > graphics in my opinion ALWAYS. Hell, look at AoC, probably one of the best graphical MMOs out on the market and in my opinion, the gameplay sucks.

Welcome to the waiting game. It really blows. The last "mmo" I played was WAR, and haven't bothered with one since. The only ones I'd be interested in at least trying (sandbox) are either first-person only or open full loot pvp (ugh?) and everything else is a linear theme park. I'll give a shot at STO and the new star wars games just cause I"m a fan of both IPs, but I do not have very high expectations and will be very surprised if I am playing either after 2-3 months.
