Best Gaming Card. (Help Please)

My current video card is a 3650 HD 1GB Radeon.  (Better than this.)

My current power supply is 600W. (Runs on this power supply.)

I've got $100 USD. (Under this amount of money.)

Wait until you can afford a better card, or the prices drop.

There is no reason to upgrade to a <$100 from that.

GeForce 9800 GT if you just have to now and under 100 (just)

Good card for the price i guess, but older tech and i would say wait if you can as well. Get a dx 11 card for better longevity and better support for future.

How much of an improvement would I see?

Current card pulled 20-35 frames in AoC...

...how many would this card pull in it?

Go check that out. A chart of cards i see the 3650 (512) in crossfire pulls 31 Fps at that res. Didn't see the 1 gig listed there.

The above 9800 gt (512) pulls 47 Fps.

 

Check that chart out and look around on toms a bit to see all your options and decide if that sounds like enough of a gain for you at that price.

Really depends on what res you like to run game and your cpu and many things if you would get the best out of an upgrade for games.  But that is the card i would get if i just had to right now rather than spend more for a dx 11 card like the 5770  think it is around 180 now if you can find them.

To be blunt here,  i would beg or borrow and get the radeon 1 gig 5770 if i possibly could it is on that chart as well about double the 9800 Fps as well as being a Dx 11 card.

I agree with Lorkar, the 5770 is a damn good card, especially for the price.  I've seen it for as low as $140, I think.  If you can get that extra 50 bucks somewhere, it'd be worth it.  Sell your current card to a friend maybe. 

Here's one for $145.

5750 for $129 <-- The little brother of the 5770.  It's not as good but still better than a 9800.

It's not the best brand out there, but the card doesn't vary that much from brand to brand.  It should definitely be an upgrade for you.  Just try to get that $45, the card is worth it.

If you're playing AoC you definitely want a Radeon card. I'd grab a 4850 for $100 here. Hell of a card for $100.

Do the 5750 or ramp your price range up a bit.

Honestly, if you're not looking in the $200-300 range, you're just going to be buying an already or about to be outdated card, so in the long run it's going to cost you more than if you had spent just a little more to get a much better piece of equipment, that's going to last you much longer.

I'm in the same spot, kinda, looking for a new card to replace an 8800 GTX. I've done a bunch of research and there are only a few reasonable options unfortunately:

Personally I wouldn't touch the 5770 if you're going to be spending the money anyway, rather have the PhysX from a crappier company like nVidia (mho) than spend $30 less on a DirectX 11 card. If you really need one for less than $100 uh hold on let me see what I can find...

try one of these, might as well go ATI for the DirectX11 I guess but really you aren't going to get much out of any $100 video card

As far as manufacturers, I don't trust HIS or Sapphire but these had the best prices. Gigabyte is the gold standard as far as I'm concerned, never had trouble with any of there products in over ten years, mobos, video cards, etc. and XFX isn't a bad company, I lump them together with EVGA, I trust them just enough to buy from them but have had a few troubles with their products.

Right now the only choice if you aren't concerned about ATI or nVidia is ATI. Every price segment they have the better buy and better performer. This is especially true if you are looking to use it for Age of Conan which is ATI biased.

Chances are you will be looking at these cards: ATI HD4870, HD4850, HD5770, HD5750, HD4770, HD5670; nVidia GTS250, 9800GT+, 9800GT.

The 5750 is great but chances are you aren't going to be able to do much DX11 or triple monitor on that card, so 4850 being faster and $30 cheaper makes it seem the way to go to me. But 5750 does use like 50W less than the 4850 if you want to add up the electricity bill to figure that into the price. It may come out cheaper if electricity is expensive

Go to tom's hardware and find a comparison chart based on the resolution you'll be using, and the game or games you'll be playing. There is no "one" list of card performance. In general, ATI has a small fps advantage with AA, and Nvidia has a small fps advantage without AA. Just decide which is more important to you, more frames, or more pretty.
