Poll: Will Mortal Online have a January 2010 launch? 1 day until the end of the month and still no

rlmccoy1987rlmccoy1987 Member Posts: 1,722

Just wanted to make a poll and get a rough estimate on how many people think the game will get released by the end of this month (3 days from today)

According to last month's newsletter, the game will be released in January:

Starvault has not yet updated their customers since that December newsletter was released.  We have less than a week until this month timeline has been exhausted, which is why I created this thread to see everyone's opinions.

Update, 2 days left and still no official word from Starvault.  The only thing they have done is ninja edited their account page to say "Q1 release"

arrrr, maybe. they do need to fit the open beta somewhere. I guess if they can afford postpone it little further  they will.

guess it depends how long they want their open beta.

Only if they have a gun to their head financially, or they don't have any brains, in which case a gun to their head wouldn't matter anyways because there's nothing up there to lose.

I'm afraid if it launches this january, it won't see another january.

I think they should give themselves another 6 months.

This game has a LARGE potential to be very successful but in it's current state, it just is not retail worthy and a majority of their target market might look the other way for another game seeing and playing the game as it is now.

MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.

yep, it might be ok given another month fuck ill pay 5-8 bucks a month now to keep it in beta a bit longer

Why did they only delay it with one month? What was the porpose? Most devs take atleast three months, maybe even six if they gonna delay it. Make it so it makes a difference!

But as said, there might be a financial factor behind it.

I don't see this game releasing for another couple of months at the very least. I mean the "core features" they speak of are far from polished. They're so smudged up with bug guts right now it's not even funny. All anyone has to do is log into the game and engage in combat. It's ridicolus (spelled incorrectly on purpose because I felt like it).

Frankly I don't care about the game anymore. It has completely failed my expectations so far and being so close to release is not a good sign. A release means they think that they've got a nice working product. So if this is what we can come to expect from them, the future of this game is not going to be good.

Any "normal" company would use 3 or 6 months, not push it back 1 month every month (if that even makes sense)

Normal = any company that is trying to be professional

Seems you forgot that they went on a 2 week vacation right after that newsletter was released, so its actually the end of January.

Personally I would like to see them release in a few months as well, when things are more polished. But SV already said that funds was running short and they are going to launch soon. As far as releasing before next month... release dates are never written in stone even with that being posted on the front page. I think anyone with half a brain and has played atleast one MMO knows this.

You go into the IRC and Henrik is talking about how they are trying to get loans from the government, not having funds.  Then other times you go in, the fans say stuff like "Henrik is rich".  It honestly feels like they are trying to get the sympathy vote from their fans, which then go out and try to tell people how good the game is, when its full of bugs and has no content, just to try and get SV more money.  Conspiracy?

Its only a game and its only $39 (for me anyways). Sit back relax, drink a beer, wait for the release. Just from playing the game personally from what experiences I have already had in the BETA is worth $40 to me. Hell I waste $20 to go watch a movie with my wife, thats 2 hours for half of the money i spent on MO, and atleast MO is interactive and I can keep playing. I find it hard to get you guys and your personal vendetta over some pocket change.

Not in 6 days. At least I hope not. I still have high hopes for this game after wandering around in beta for a few days. At its current state it will only have hardcore appeal, which is historically not a good business model.

I figured out what I needed to, starting training some skills. Explored a LOT. But most people are not going to search forums to find out how to autorun (not in keyboard controls menu), how to teach their character how to read ((skill that opens it is with the magic vendor?! - (so that's what is wrong with u.s. public schools - we don't do the reading enchantation in Pre-K)).

I think they will release it because they don't have the money to sit on it any longer.  Most of what I have heard from people who have played it is that would essentially be a death sentence to the project.   It would be a shame for them to doom themselves because this genre needs more open world sandbox type games.  Every time one comes out that flops, it only makes people less willing to examine them the next time one comes around.   Eventually this leads to the perpetual cycle of theme park cash grabs being released over and over, usually in the guise of some franchise or IP being milked.

They need to push it back months in advance, not every month.  That looks unprofessional.

Agreed. Unfortunately I think they're waiting for the day when it looks like its just stable enough to kick out the door.  They're doing stress tests, by the time open beta hits (whenever it hits) it pretty much means they're going to push the product out there.  I've never seen someone extend development back into closed beta once it hits open beta... and with the way SV has been running their stress tests... it would seem once the game can stand on its own, its ready to walk.  Kind of a shame though.

I don't think it will from I saw yesterday.  I don't know how much they were letting us see in the stress test, but combat was terrible.  It may have been the lag but it seemed to take far to long to swing your weapon.  The world, while beautiful, was also pretty barren.

They also desperately need a tutorial.

I wonder how many people would still buy if they offered the game at a 50% reduction on the box price and monthly subscription.

    box price:  $25

    subscription price: $7.50

I think it would be a fairly acceptable price until they get the game fairly fleshed out.    My only concern with the reduction in price is would the people that pre-ordered feel like they got scammed, or would their time in " beta " feel as adequate compensation?

Don't think you have to worry about people "feeling" scammed. The number of people beta testing out of the original 13K "boxes" sold should tell you how many already have decided that this game is a scam. All a price reduction would do is prove what they already have learned, nothing more.
