somehow need to keep this on the front page for a bit to get some more reponses... need to say something controversial... how about: Darkfall is the best game you probably haven't tried yet!

  • PolarisationPolarisation Member Posts: 108

    need more responses please.

  • PolarisationPolarisation Member Posts: 108

22 responses so far, thanks! ideally need about a 100 to be statistically valid, go fill it out pls!

Put "Darkfall" in thread title and you will stop worrying about bumping.

my current opinion they are mostly all the same with just a different theme. Sort of like how you can make Windows Vista look like Windows 98 but deep down it is still Vista. Everything is the same now days, nothing really new or different. The ones that are new or different get shot down rather quickly, or  just an asian grinder that is introducing something new and fun but really isn't worth it due to go kill 50 of monster X and report back quest...

Keep in mind that this site is composed of a minority of MMOGamers. You won't be getting the average joe here, at least not a lot of them.

Like the above poster said, most people on these forums are vets and have seen everything so their views on games is alot different than your average joe. To get an actual overview of the industry and what players want, just go to the wow forums.

I think quite a few WOW players still read this forum and it's not necessarily WOW players opinions I want.

Why go to the average joe's when you can get the vets opinions? :)

Filled it out btw. Good luck with it.

Yes I will post the results once the number of responses hits 100.

By the way, if anyone has any comments on the survey, e.g. questions they think i also should have asked or anything that wasn't clear, please post it here.

Just for the record to be statistically valid you need thousands of results and they need to be equally spread across age/location/gender/race/personality/education level. However it will be an interesting read.

    EDIT:

I would have perfered instead of which item in a game is most important to you, to rank each of the choices in order so x is #1 y is #2 etc. Also for archtype mine wasn't included, I prefer rogue and no not the modern MMOs in which rogue just = dps. A real rogue who survives based on stealth planning and tactics.

I would of liked a I hate raid button just because I hate raids. But overall a decent survey covering main issues.

No not true. The number depends on the hypothesis you're testing and the confidence limits you're aiming for. Like I said, 100 is enough for my purposes.

Nice survey.  I did have one issue with it though:

Concerning group and raid PVE, which would you prefer?

I would have really liked an option for a mix between instanced and open world raid/group PvE here (like EQ II has for instance).  I enjoy having some bosses contested, but just enough instanced so that one or two guilds can't bottleneck the whole server's progression.

There is no such thing as a scientifically valid study if the number is 100 people in a biased way (all from mmorpg.com).

I'm not trying to get in a fight here, and it's fun to do a survery like this, but I just wanted to be clear that it would in now way be a valid result. It's fine to say I'm getting polls for a little project I'm working on, I'm ok with just getting 100 people. But don't throw the phrase valid result in on top of it. Those are two different things.

And no you don't suddenly get to be allowed a small biased sample because of a given hypothesis. Every single valid study/survey has to be at least thousands of people from different aspects of life as I mentioned above. That is an inarguable fact.

No offence but have you studied statistics at university level? Cause I did... It really all depends on how narrow your study is, how large the target population is, and the confidence limits (the 'p' value). Bigger numbers = higher confidence. Since my study is on MMO gamers, which is absolutely not representative of either age nor gender, absolutely no need to include gender/age unless making inferences about those things.

Heh, blame unscrupulous politicians for that...

Like any research, you can make it say whatever you want, which is of course why any reputable study publishes all methodology used, and is peer-reviewed.

Come on guys, the survey won't take much of your time.
