I have been noticing that most of the complaints against Star Trek Online are actually angry customers from Champions Online who want to vent about Cryptic and not Star Trek Online. With that being said, imagine Cryptic never made Champions Online, how would your view of Star Trek Online change?
Comments
Your premise is flawed. I've never played CO, not even a free trial, and IMO STO fails on its' own merits. Many die hard Trek fans are far more disappointed than disgruntled CO fans.
Same, i have no interest in CO, and havent played it, i had been waiting for STO for some time, so my disappointment is based on how bad the game is - rather than other games Cryptic have made, though by the sound of it, they havent exactly covered themselves in glory with CO either...
Im not a CO player, nor a ST fan, Im a general sci-fi-mmo fan.
The game in my opinion is not a good mmo, a other rushed mmo missing tons of core features ontop of super instance gameplay
I voted favorable just because the CO fiasco hasn't changed my view of STO as a game. Make no mistake I will be playing STO even though I'm very concerned about Cryptic's business ethics after what they pulled with CO this week. They have one chance to prove that they will not do the same thing with STO as far as I'm concerned though. The first time they label a content patch that fixes the content shortcomings of the game now as an 'expansion' and try to charge me for it I will be out of there and will never look back.
Now don't get me wrong. I have absolutely no problem paying for a true expansion like when they add the Romulans or Dominion as playable factions but if they try to charge for filling out the incomplete parts of the game as it stands now I will have a major problem with it. Only time will tell at this point and the ball is in Cryptic's hands. Whether they run with it or drop it is up to them.

There is only so much content you can make with a 2-year development time, and we've seen that with STO, that it is way too little to be a presentable competitive AAA MMO title.
I doubt mine would change significantly, unless that would also change the content in STO (not possible as Perpetual still had the license).
That's exactly how I feel. The Klingon content should be priority number 1.
To the OP, I think the CO people are a small minority. The people who are mostly bashing this game are the ones who wanted this game to go in a different direction that it did. I know on the official forums the majority of it is from fans of EVE or Pre-CU SWG who wanted their favorite parts of those games used in STO.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
Same, I have no interest in CO and never played it but played the STO beta and its a horrible game regardless.
Yeah, I agree your premise is seriously flawed. Most complaints have been about the lack of Star Trek in this star trek game. If anything, those who have tried CO and found STO lacking can put some perspective on it. I, for one, haven't played CO and now never will.
So the real question is: Of those who have not tried CO but have tried the STO beta, how many will run out and try CO?
No. The premise is so simple you guys are missing it. If you didn't beta or play Champions Online, you should be picking neutral or not even posting. Stop trying to re-write the question and answer what I asked. My question is what it is. Most of you are missing the bus on this simple question.

That would be your opinion, not supported by facts.. but anways..
I didn't like EVE, and I was there on day 1 of SWG and tried to support that failure as long as I could.. STO fails in my eyes, because:
1) There is no flowing travel or adventuring in space.. I hate shoebox instancing
2) There is no contested persistent world.. PvP has no effect in the galaxy
3) Land missions are like adventuring in my backyard..
4) Quest are too transparent and repetitive.. Is there anything Epic about STO? NO
5) NO PvE content for Vulcans, Klingons, Romulans..
6) NO hobbies or tradeskills to enjoy while taking a break from killing.. lol
As mentioned earlier, flawed poll.
I've never even seen a screenshot of Champions Online, have zero interest in it.
Star Trek Online fails (for me) on it's own lack of merits. I don't compare a game to another, what's the point in that?
I played CO and I enjoyed it, and I also quite enjoy STO.
A good friend of mine didn't like CO at all, but he likes STO very much.
I think what this boils down to is whether you like CO or not, I think STO is a personal preference.

CO which I never tried does not interfere at all with my personal interest for STO, your question is not relevant in my case.
Same for me. Never played or BT CO but when i tried STO I immediatly canceled my preorder.
I also never had any interest in CO but am looking forward to STO. Played beta and enjoyed it.
That's a mighty big assumption there. I've never played Champions Online, so I can't make any comments for that game. But I see the squandered potential the Star Trek universe has. Cryptic has made a shallow half assed game. Star Trek does not deserve this.
I was pretty into CoX, so going over to CO was a lot of fun. Had a lot of negativity towards it but I remained strong against the nay-sayers. Unfortunately time ran out and realized I was blind to what people were saying so I quit on my own accord.
I can jump around and assume STO will fail but not playing it nor even having the intention to play would merit my view on STO void.
Cryptic screwed a lot of people in CO and I just hope they don't do it to the STO community.
Good luck.
If I hadn't seen CO I would have had zero relative change in my opinion of STO.
You can't failboat this bad and expect people to think its worth the price even if its the first attempt at making a game. STO is a joke. Its a freaking disgrace to the IP. Cryptic needs to die and give the IP to a software company who can actually make a decent game.
Level of interest in excuses by game developers and fanbois as to the terrible state of game development.

It doesn't matter if Cryptic has released other MMOs before, they screwed up with the Star Trek IP in the eyes of people who like Star Trek.
As a 33y old SciFi-Fan, who watched every damn episode there ever was of Star Trek I'm absolutely disappointed by the lack of freedom and exploration in STO.
X, X² or X³ have far more of the Star Trek spirit in it, then STO allthough it's missing the part of running around on a planet etc.
With or without CO STO is gawd awful. They managed to make an asian grinder in shoebox instances every 2 seconds.. and we thought asian grinders were as bad as it could get...
Got to voice a lot of opinions i see and say that never been interested in co either and very disappointed with sto for its own lake of merit
I guess the question is would it have been as bad if they hadn't used the co/cryptic engine?
to answer your question, No. It would have been 5.3 billion times better if they had used the engine from say.. Asteroids..
honestly I think the standards a lot of people hold for mmo's these days is to high. No one enjoys a game for what it is anymore. its the well it dont have this or that, this games better, cryptic sucks, why did they not do this, how come this is not in, so on and so forth. Im a long time Trek fan,I have played sto in the open beta, and ya its got its flaws and such, but nothing a few good patches cant correct. Sure its got instancing and the world is not as seemless as some would have liked, but come on its pretty hard to make a UNIVERSE seemless. And on the note of there not being any diplomatic missions or enough exploring and similar missions..you know putting those in A game or having to many would only make people bitch more. Because it would take to long for those types of missions to complete with out any instant satisfatcion or action. How many times have you heard people compalin about "oh man its an escort mission, I hate those" or "this quest sucks to much running back and forth just talking to NPCs" ,what a diplomatic mission mite be like.
I have no idea what Champions Online is like. I canceled my STO preorder after the closed beta. I just cannot play this game. I am 57 years old and the original series of Star Trek started on my birthday. I am utterly in love with the Star Trek franchise. I have been waiting for a Sci Fi mmo since I left SWG when it moved to the New Game Experience. Sadly, I have to agree with other posters about the shortcomings of this game. While I love to solo, the instances are EVERYWHERE you go (even the Earth Starbase), and the lack of exploration takes all the immersiveness out of this game (for me). The away missions are extremely limited and disappointing. The space combat is better than ground missions but not much variety. The test server was down a whole lot, so I didn't get to play beta very much, but that is OK, I played to Lt. Commander and got in enough time to see it wasn't what I wanted. Some players said the experience gets better past level 11. Perhaps. Vanguard: Saga of Heros had a terrible beta and now it is a pretty solid game. Maybe STO will improve with time and I will try it again later. Oh, I have to add that Cryptic's lure to get you to buy several preorders to stack preorder benefits strikes me as blatant commercialism. I don't know what the "Cryptic Store" is about, but I can't say I care much for microtransaction stores either, particularly in a pay-to-play game. For those of you who chose to play this game, have fun and I wish you live long... and prosper! Thanks for letting me vent.
I totally agree with you, my standards for an mmo are impossibly high. I need to take a break from mmos. But, I have had MUCH better mmo experiences than I had with STO. I hope you are right, I hope this game gets better.
