What's 15$ a month for a FULL month of entertainment ?   I mean you go out watch a 2 hours movie and it cost more.  If you cant afford 15$ a month for a game i think you have VERY serious finance issues.

This may sound like a real dumb question but I see how several people are playing several different subscription based MMOs. How does one afford that? 10-15 dollars a month per game on top of all your other bills. I am not judging by no means, just curious. I am 26 year old minister with a working wife and a 1 year old daughter, and in today's economy we have a hard time making ends meet; so it is quite shocking for me to see people who play like three or four different MMOs. I can understand paying to play one but several just blows my mind.

    Just a question

Many ways of looking at this. First is that most cheap cable packages are a good $50 a month anyways. Now you can watch more and more TV shows and movies on the internet through hulu.com and even pay stuff like netflix (8-9 bucks a month to watch as much streaming content as you want). So you could always lose the cable.

Doing anything with your family, for example going to see 1 movie a month, would cost the same as several MMO subscriptions. So perhaps get the family together and play some MMOs.

Truthfully MMOs are about as cheap as entertainment gets, so playing 1 or 2 is cheaper then doing most other things. So it's actually more affordable to play MMOs.

As for how I afford my gaiming: I play MMOs, have an Xbox 360, buy new games, pay for MMOs. I a have a full time job which probably barely puts me in the middle of middle class.

An MMO is such a miniscule expense it doesn't register. But I also don't go out to bars/clubs/restaurants a lot and so I probably technically make money by playing MMOs instead of doing those things.

For my part I play a few MMORPGS but ussually only one at a time during alternating periods, and I ussually pay with with game cards if available or I pay then immediately cancel so I don't auto-renew... so I'll pay a for a month or 2 of EvE, then I'll feel like going back to WoW, so I'll buy a game card... ussually by the time that runs out, I'll feel like paying EvE again... or something else... right now I'm playing STO... at my current rate I'm sure I'll hit Admiral with a decked out assult cruiser before my sub runs out... so I'll let that laspse and re-up a few months later when they've added some more end-game stuff... knock through all that... lapse... go back to WoW for Cataclysm... spend a few months there... etc. etc. etc.

And of course none of this is counting the time I'll spend trying out other MMO's that might interest me... and then there's some months I'll spend playing whatever new non-p2p games I'm interested... of which there are several as I've fallen a bit behind in that regard.

Now, add to that picture that I'm facilities manager at an airport working full time (a lot more than that when I'm plowing snow all the damned time!!!!) A Student pilot with a 12 hour a week flight schedule... a wife and kid... and basically my gaming time is after the kid is in bed on the few nights a  week when I can stay up because I don't have to be anywhere the next morning.

So really, even though I "play" more than one MMO it's really not practical for me to pay for each one every month, even if that wasn't a huge expense... which it would be.

It all comes down to income really.

Sounds like you guys are living at or under the poverty level to say the least.  More like survival mode if what you are saying is accurate.

To you $50 a month might mean the difference in paying the light bill, for others its a friday night out at the movies or bar.

IMO any MMO with a paid sub in your situation is a bad idea. Sorry things are so tight for ya =(

And for what its worth I respect what you do as a Minister even if my views differ from yours.

I'm 34, Single Income No Kids, no car payment either. I usually had 2-3 monthly subs going at once but I cut back. I deleted all my characters in WoW and canceled to keep myself from going back every few months. I sometimes play Guild Wars and Anarchy Online(free). Now I just have a Sony Station pass and mess around in EQ, EQ2, Vanguard, and Stargate card game.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

    Working in the industry helps.

Before I came into the industry, I had around 6 accounts in various games.

    Thanks mom! *runs*

    Work work work!

Going on 20 years in the Army here and I dont waste my money on any other form of entertainment.  I have friends who give me a hard time about wasting $60 a month on subs yet they will buy 2-3 $55 games a month for their consoles. IMO MMOs are one of the least expensive forms of entertainment, so having multiple accounts is not that difficult.

I work as a System Admin for a medium size company which pays the bills plus alot which allows me to run 2 to 3 subs at any given time.

I am single and only have to worry about feeding myself and my dog (which is like a kid, no I am serious) and my normal bills, car, house, crap like that.   I just watch my cash flow and make sure I spend it on thing that I WANT not on what is "COOL".

    Yeah.

I wouldn't afford 3-4 MMO's a month. Not beacause I get broke, but because I have a limit on how much I will spend on things so I won't get broke. As you say money management, that is what I think comes into mind when people say they can't afford to sub to yet another MMO.

It could be MMO, or just another CD and another of this and that. Soon eenough one is broke.

I personally ca't afford more 2 MMO's a month, not becouse I only have $15 to spare but because my spending limit is set way before I get (literally)  broke. Do I want to subscibe to more, I just need to skip a few candybars at work... but nah I like candy to much for that :=)

Broke and broke is two different things, everything relative.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Save even more money on the water bill by turning your underwear inside-out insead of washing all the time...works for me.

Well as I save money by not washing my pants, that just doesn't do it for me...  You would save more money from washing your underwear rather than your pants.

the truth is, nowdays mmo players are actually much older than you think. most players have jobs, families, careers, and don't really have much of a problem paying 15$ a month for a game. i actually dont know any kidds that play WoW or any other mmos, all my mmo budies are adults with jobs with/without families. they grew up playing vidoe games and eventually stumbled onto mmos and go hooked. kids usually much rather play instant gratification games like FPS.

as for myself the most mmos i'v had going at once was 4 but i cut down to only 1 and if i want to try a new one i cancel my current game first. serisously even for someone that's not hardcore and plays 2-3 hours a day  that's 90 hours a month at 15$=.16 cents an hour to play.....that's probably cheaper then your daily toilet paper consumption.
