I have never been more frustrated trying to get a game to work than this game.
I ran around trying to figure out where to go and it appeared there is nowhere to go lol. After a bit of further frustration i finally figured out to hit the game guide to figure out how the heck you can harvest. Then i needed to put the icon into hotbar,ok not a big deal, but not once in the game did i ever have any kind of targeting,no mouse target no arrow nothing, wtf?
Ok so i figure i will try to chop at a tree.Hit my set combat button, only this time nothing shows at all, when i had nothing equipped,i could at least see my hands, now nothing when axe is equipped?Anyhow i go onto hit the hotbar for wood chop and some delay timer pops up,but still no action shown, how the heck am i suppose to know if my player is doing anything?
I also noticed there is suppose to be dodging by dbl tap, didn't work or at least again no animation to let me know it is working.I tried to jump again could not tell if i am jumping.geesh what kind of poor design is this?
The graphics are not that well done considering what i thought they would be like. The players look like playing an old Bethesda rpg, sort of like stick people with very low detail.
The design of this game is extremely archaic,it needs a big time makeover to smooth out actions, they should not feel cumbersome.I SHOULD have a mouse on screen and i SHOULD be able to tell if i am actually targeting or doing anything, just very frustrating game to be in.
Is there something wrong with my game,or is this the design and how it plays?
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Nah not doing anything wrong to harvest all you have to do is follow the steps in the Guide "H' granted its alittle vague, but it works like this.
Make sure you have your starter Axe equiped.
Then you have to enter combat mode. Default "X"
Then go near the tree and hit your little hotkey that you made from your bar.
And you'll start choping away.
Another thing is to stay away from the Starter Town Fabernum. Probably everyone in the world is starting their so try a different town Vaada starts you right in the village so you should be able to harvest and ask questions while your in town so you don't get beaten on.
This game has a high learning curve, as intended. Your first few hours are ment to be a learning experience, don't expect any great accomplishments.
Im guessing harvesting is considered a great accomplishment in MO?
:P
I'm afraid the OP is right on the money. After playing Darkfall the last few days, I decided to try this open beta. BIG difference. Darkfall crushes this game in terms of UI, graphics, movement etc.
My biggest gripe with MO is lack of tooltips, no targeting reticle to let me know what I'm aimed at, my sound didn't work and there "fix" was to update my drivers(which are up to date) or downgrade(which I can't do) until they get 5.1/7.1 coded in.
The character models in this are just flat out horrible. They look like old characters from the early days of EQ/Shadowbane.
Going back to Darkfall and am very impressed with the polish Adventurine is putting on the same type of sandbox game. Thank you MO for showing me that.
For the love of god people its not a finished product!, Its in beta.....and its an indie company building it, They do not have a billion dollar budget or a huge staff to make everything perfect, SO stop bitching that is all I ever see on this bloody website is pissing and moaning, it lags no crap there like a fuck ton of people logging on all at once then when they get kicked or droped they log right back in over and over agian.
And if your wondering well wows server or so in so's servers can hold so and so amount, they have the money to afford good equipment and so forth to make that possible, indie company kinda does not.
And I am pretty sure as the game ages they will make the combat and so on better and smoother. ^.^
Remember children its beta it has bugs and faults, thus why they have beta to fix them...Honestly the very ideas there trying to bring to life is crazy good stuff, if they could get support and get a good following then they could make a very very good game.
I have played wow for years and basically all other mmo anything and this one seems to try new things great new things, so shut up bitching and give them a chance, all your doing is being negative, and that never helps anything or anyone.
If you read all of this id be amazed lol because Im normally to lazy to read this much lol :P
Good luck in game on mortal online once they get everything running smoother....
And dont grammer nazi me I know I misspell alot I dont care got better things to do with my time then spell check :P
"as intended"
that's just silly
SV devs just aren't capable of creating any kind of tutorial or a decent UI for that matter - that's all
i plan on sticking with it though and hoping i find some fun despite the unintentional brick walls in the way
and stop with the beta excuses up there - that gets pretty old when you are in OB and this is pretty much it as stated by at least one dev on their forums - and yes you want a quote but i didn't save it for posterity so go look yourself
In the days of UO there was no tutorial either.
There is a "H" key which is an in game manual you can read and learn how to do most stuff that way. Yes, I know you would rather have a pop up book and show you how to do the actions. But, its all there if you just take the time and look.
Theres a new video guide around:
www.youtube.com/watch
It's not high learning curve - it's just unbearable lag, which makes doing anything unnecessary difficult, especially for newbie.
During stress test 3 I've read in-game help, and I was able to gather, tame, snoop or fight without any problems.
During open beta I was struggling to do anything, constantly checking help if I'm doing something wrong, because I couldn't enter combat mode, couldn't move skill to skill bar, gathering didn't give me any materials, etc,
I'd wait until lag situation will improve, before trying the open beta again. It's really frustrating when you try to learn interface, and game reacts to keys after 3 seconds.
No offense, but UO was basically the first of its kind, and was more than 10 years ago.
To not have a tutorial in a highly complex game is just another design oversight (one of many) that MO has. And putting that aside, even if they did have a tutorial -- most of the systems don't work properly so it would be kind of pointless.

Which is exactly what they said is the reason that there is no book with the out of date non-updating DvD that they shipped to a few people. They flat out stated that to have had a guide would have been a waste since things wouldn't be the same at release.
Well within several weeks of release and things are still borked and they look like they will be the same at release so they missed the mark again with their lame ass excuse.
I downloaded the game yesterday and tried it today........its sad......it was so bad i dont even want to make fun of it. I'm just going to delete and get on with my life and pretend it never happened. No rage here just sadness.........
Currently Playing: Fallen Earth
Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO
Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World
I reckon its 2 years away to be considered an unfinished product, and 4 years away to claim the right to be called finished
more than a MMORPG, currently MO looks like an attempt to make a toaster that went wrong
So this game is a fail? Oh why do all the great sounding titles have to be so horrible and titles that sound stupid (Aion, Star Trek Online) do so well...
you're complaining about the character models in MO and you're playing DF?.. Am i missing something? did Darkfall change their character models and animation since launch? cause last time I checked they were the ugliest mmo characters i have ever seen =/
this game needs more fluid animations tho but i'm fine with the quality of the ones right now. as for the character models I think beside the hairstyles they look good. hoping to get alittle more costumization tho but i'm sure that will come at some point
the real angarato

People are getting frustrated for the wrong reasons. If they were complaining about working for free and not getting paid, but they instead pay to play an unfinished game that have no official release date, yet they complain about bugs and technical issues. Humans are hard to understand.
You were playing another game.
Probably all you know about DF are the several Youtube videos of sieges, where people turn all the graphics way down to the minimun and deactivate the shadows.
At high rez DF looks pretty good (although you might not like the style).
DF characters look way better than MO and they move much more fluidly, no comparison.
Unless Starvault allow the highest setting (which at the moment are turned off), MO looks pretty awful and unattractive.
I will try again when they upload the next patch, but at the moment I won't log back in beta any time soon.
