As of release, this game does not look sufficient. The things I have been reading about the game just put me off. The ground environments seem tiny overly rural and lame. The missions seem repetitvie and combat-focused only. the game seems heavily instanced with little massively multiplayer aspect to it at all. There seems to be little Star Trek to love here. And for me, worst of all, there are no good ship interiors. The bridges are lame, somewhat ugly looking. Like a cheap Chinese import version of the Star Trek bridges. No function to them, viewscreen is blank. Doors are horribly out of proportion, and Cryptic will not change that.
An expansion pack could POSSIBLY make me change my mind and play this game. but only if it delivers rich and detailed ship interiors that meet my expectations. I want to see planets and space stations outside the windows during flight. I want to walk around the corridors and visit Mess Hall and Sick Bay and engineering an Captain's Quarters.
I want new races like the Dominion or Romulans.
I want to see more social aspects of the game. More Fleet supported features.
I want to see Starfleet Academy.
If these features get in, then a MIGHT consider playing. Since it's a long shot that these features get in, I likely will never play this game. And it's a pity since I have followed the game since Perpetual first announced it in 2004. It's quite a letdown, really.

Well if its anything like CO, and I know it will be even new content(not an xpac) will cost you! weeeee
Wise. Given that they are calling one new zone that doesn't raise the level cap and only covers 4 levels an "expansion" in CO and are charging for it, seems sensible to see how they are going to handle the RMT in this game...though, imho, things don't look good there.
Good choice. Right now, this game is not worth playing at all. Sadly it likely never will be though because it's built on a crappy foundation. They'll keep slapping on new coats of paint to try and keep people from seeing that crumbling foundation though.
Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity.
This game will sadly never amount to anything. The tragedy of it is, they now own the IP.
Lets just hope they dont do a Champions Online and add one zone for 3-4 levels and then charge it as an "expansion".
That is a big concern because STO is sorely lacking in content, specially the Klingons.

This is the thing that upsets me most too.
Knowing how Cryptic's Engine works I would prefer if this game was called "Star Trek : Multiplayer" and the IP was released for a 'real' MMO.
But Cryptic knows this IP is a license to print money and they will never release it willingly.
There is some hope though.
Atari is being sued by both Turbine and Hasbro over DDO. If Hasbro win their case they are seeking to revoke the D&D license from Atari and at that point Turbine will sue them again.
That could put Atari out of business and force the release of the STO license (maybe - depending on the license terms/contract).
But it's a big if.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
I seriously doubt if this game fails anyone else will make a Star Trek mmo.

I'm by no means a Star Trek fan, more Sci-fi in general but this really is the case i think for all perhaps all Sci-fi games in the future which has been and iffy market to begin with. Look at things like: Jumpgate which seems to be waning in popularity, Black prophecy - havent heard much recently. I'd hate to think that this "game" would some how impact the future of any new Sci-Fi's, (my faith in TOR is on edge as well). I played EVE for a bit, but the PVP and non-flight sim through me off.
To some extent i do feel sorry for people who really so love the ST IP, i'd hate for something i really like to be as butcher or detracted from as it seems.
Patrick Stewart has better chance of suddenly growing a full hairline than this game growing a subscriber base past the first month.
That's not a very constructive post.
