okay so I found the AMD Phenom II x4 945 bundled with a Radeon 5870 for $550 i know thats a good card but is the processor a good choice for that card
For such amount of money you might consider going rather Crossfire with two cheaper cards than pay premium for Radeon 5870. Obviously, that depends on the other hardware (PSU) and specific titles you would like to play.
mm card is good proc is good for an amd .since we are decade away from having an application make use of all that power its a good combo.the intel i5 (the biggest is also a good buy ,no graphic card needed since its all included in the proc it works good on almost every pre-dx11 app so your covered
The Intel Core i5 integrated GPU is not a respectable gaming GPU. The OP, or any serious gamer would want to invest in a discreet GPU.
I don't think you can go wrong with a phenom II BE paired with a radeon. OP, you just need to ask yourself what will I be using the PC for and for how long?
Except in very CPU intensive games like some (probably poorly coded) RTS's the 955 is just enough to power a single 5870 to max. That makes it a decent buy imo, because if you're watching money you want to balance the system by getting the best GPU you can afford and a CPU just powerful enough to push it to its limit.
I think you said World in Conflict was one of your favorite games so on that bench.. you'll see the 955 BE (3.2GHz) would be pretty close to the 3.4GHz bench and at max graphics settings (1920x1080, 8xAA, 16XAF) it fairs pretty well since the GPU still bottlenecks it.
It could use just a little more juice for that game to bring up the minimum fps but an OC would cover it. The i7 2.6GHz is an i7 920, and the higher clocked i7's on the bench were OC'd results.
Most the games benched just show a flat line at 1920x1080 since the CPU speed isn't what's holding them back. But for 2 5870's in Crossfire it definitely is looking for an OC'd i7.
i would also like to know how this or dual 5750s would fare. would dual 5750s in xfire come anywhere near the 5850. Ive read up on the gpu's and 5750s are suppose to be half what the 5850 is. newegg has the 955 BE comboed with the 1x hd 5750. i thought maybe if i add another gpu it might work
