What the hell is the point?

TdogSkalTdogSkal Member UncommonPosts: 1,244

So I downloaded the client, installed the game, created my character.  Picked my starting town (morin Khur) and once I got into game hit H.  Read though the help stuff and set out to go explore and gather to make my frist real weapon.

Problem is that there are 4 to 5 guys in full armor with bows and a few on horses waiting just outside the city gate to kill newbies.  Thats fine and all in a FFA PvP game but what the hell is the point?  Do you guys that have been playing though all the phases of beta not want any new players joining the game?  Do you not like the new players?

How can I even tell if the game is for me if I cannot even leave the city for 5 seconds to learn the game?  The dam community has already ruined what could be a fun game.  Should at least let newbies learn the game for a few minutes before you so called vets jump in and wipe the floor with us.

I know I will be told I am a carebare, learn to play the game, working as intented blah blah blah but how the hell are new players going to even get to explore and learn the gameplay.  I spend an hour trying to leave the town to go out and see the world and gather to make my first weapon but no once was I able to even get 5 feet out of town.  What a complete waste.  It is really too bad, the game could be fun, looks great but the shitty community already in game has/will ruin any point in trying to learn this game.

Again, flame me, call me names, whatever makes you feel better about yourself but it is complete crap that newbies do not get a few hours to explore and learn the basics before being ganked by you so called "Vets".  What is the point?  Game over man, might give it another try to night and see if it is the same shit as last night and if so, uninstall and done with yet another game that might have been fun.

Sooner or Later

That's pretty childish of them imo

Try starting in a different town nothing else I can suggest you.

I might be mistaken but I thought this MMO was the one where if you gank'd a player too many time their god could come down and destroy the PK'er. Might be another game I was reading on so many new MMOs so few grt game play.

sounds like all ffa pvp communities.  you'll rarely find yourself in a fair fight in these type of games.  you may even see smack talking from those guys killing the new players.  with that being said, and never having played this game, most ffa pvp games do ok when you join up with a guild of some sort.

Morin Khur really sucks to start in, you need to travel too far to gather or anything else.  I recommend creating a new character and starting in Vadda.  Its nice and small and you can gather in town where the guards will protect you from douche bags like that.

Problem is that there isn't much to do in MO so you really cant blame those guys. They maxed their skills, killed the only raid mob in the game and are now bored since there is nothing valuable to fight over there is no point in having a territorial conquest or anything.

So dont blame them, blame the devs for not understanding that a sandbox environment is not the same as an empty 3D engine with trees and shit. Designing a sandbox environment that works is HARD. Take a look at Eve, they have a complex economy with valuable resources to fight over to feed that economy, that is how you create an FFA PvP sandbox world.

Lots of gankers were out last night taking advantage of everyone and everything PKing in huge masses of reds, but I think it was because they reset everyone. So everyone is starting all over. There won't be any gankin so now is a good time to try and get a good feel for the game without being raped in an alpha state to say the least.

What a crock of crap, so it's the default possition of everyone that can't think of something to do is to go and gank noobs? Rubish. These people would be standing there ganking if there was 1000 years worth of revolutionary ai raids right at their finger tips, it's in their nature, it's a psychological crux of some sort, they gain the respect they cant get in life from a game. There are a lot more players at the same stage of the game out fighting each other in the wilderness or helping each other farm and work out different skills etc.

Really, then how come WAR (on the PvP servers) has almost non existant ganking?

I tell you why, it is because you could get all the PvP you wanted in scenarios so there really was no reason to gank people. I would say that 99% of MMORPG players are just like 99% of regular people, i.e. not sadists that want to ruin other peoples experience but rather bored and nothing to do.

But I give you that, 1% are morons that enjoys ganking to gain some kind of "respect" but that is a very small minority you are judging all PvPers on.

And also, it is a computer game. Dont think that many want to gain respect from a computer game...

He is saying that those people ganking has some psycological issues rather than just being bored.

Also he seems to be saying that there are tons of stuff to do as apparently "alot" of people are out in the wilderness and doing said stuff. What that is, beside farming (something) and fighting each other (for whatever reason) seems unclear.

I personally rarely gank in MMORPGs as there are usually alot more interesting things to do but this game is soooo boring that I felt I needed to do *something* and ganking was the only thing I could think of. Because really, this game is so uncomplete that it is not much more than a 3D engine with some harvest spots here and there.

As was stated in the same thread posted in the MO forums...

The announcement that the server would be restarting took place...

    Character wipes would commence.

So the individuals ganking everyone took up position outside of your town and killed anyone that exited.

Not just noobs, but everyone who was still mining and resource gathering as well.

The server was restarting, and character wipes were happening... why did it matter who they killed?

Why not kill everyone? it was their idea of fun...

OP - Hey man I understand your frustration...

But.. here you are, you get whacked by the reds sitting outside the gate. You go rez in the tow, then try again? And again? And again? ...Really?

    Use your head bro.

If you want to go out and play outside the town and get a feel for the game, then when they kill you, you turn into a ghost. Now... DON'T DO THE EXACT SAME THING YOU JUST TRIED FOURTEEN TIMES. "Think". Remember, this game isn't going to hold your hand. While you are a ghost, they cannot see you. Slip past them and go out to one of the literally hundred different priests in the country side and rez there alone where reds aren't waiting. Then go try some stuff out away from all the chaos and game population.

In games like this, you really have to think outside the box sometimes.

Good luck and enjoy Mortal Online!

Not that I'm defending the gankers, but...are you implying that instead of griefing in the REAL WORLD  they would spend their time griefing in a made up world where they cant be commited for a crime?

TBH I'd rather have them do these childish things in a game rather than have some idiot running rampant going on a killing spree in the real world. Would you rather have them grief you in real life or a MMO? I dont know, you decide.

On a serious note, you can choose whatever starting area you wish, like someone else stated, you can also choose a starting town where you can farm in the boundaries of the guards. That way you can be "somewhat" safe. Now if someone wanted to STILL be a total jackass, they can still attack you inside the town and die over and over and over again, until you finally die (like what happened to me) you can learn to be a better player.

I mean for crying out loud, you see a bunch of dumb asses waiting for you to cross the border and yet you still go in that same direction? Why dont you think for a second and move into a different direction where they aren't waiting for you. There is MORE THAN ONE EXIT/ENTRANCE in a town. Get over it and move on.

You really cant teach common sense, I mean if you were to see a dog barking and snarling in front of you, are you still going to walk right in front of him? Of course not, you would turn around and walk in a different direction. What has the world come to man. How much more dumbed down does a game has to be before some people actually "get it?"

It shouldn't take the dev team too long to put safe guards in for newbies, all it takes is a  few griefers to  turn away a lot of bussiness for a MMO company by making newbies leave, just like what happending in Darkfall, and now Darkfal devs arel taking acton to stop the camping on newbies that in turn hurt the games community and game by having new players walk away instead.
