Thinking about Resubbing.... want to try the game- recruit me!

 Hello everyone,

 

I purchased AOC hmm..... during the welcome back event.

 

It was fun, though the population was a little suckish. Ive heard they merged servers (again) so im hoping this may improve population

 

I was wondering if anyone would be willing to recruit me for the 7 day trial, If im happy I will probably purchase the game, however I do not feel like reactivating my old account without being convinced.

 

At the same time I am not stupid and willing to give my personal email to the entire world.

 

I have setup and email just for this purpose - so go ahead and hack my trial account and useless email address if you wish.

I recently went back to AoC as I had received a 2 month time card for free.

I played all of a week.

Same game, same flaws, less population.

I've since resubbed to Darkfall, and I'm loving it.

Moral of the story?

Skip AoC and find a better MMO to spend money on.

 Well thanks for the advice, however I would still like to give it a try.

 

The recent patch release sounds promising, and I did have a lot of fun with my conq. Just with school and time I had to stop. But ive since found some "free time'" for gaming and I want to see how it is.

 

Free trial would be a great way for a taste without ponying up my cash for a product ill hate.

 

That and im wanting to see if they fixed the game not... which will tell me to hope in the secret world or not.

I activate my trial account and get flashed with big shiny message! "buy the game for 75% off client fee! only 4.50!!!!!!" so I click and of course "we found no offer relating to this link"...... shit point #1

 

the important thing was the game anyways, right? not buying it right now.

 

I log in and get an update saying update my ati driver or the game will suck. Now here the thing, my laptop may not be the best, but my HD 3200 was still pumping out nearly 40 fps with my settings all tweaked and media center running in backround.

 

I get new driver, reboot.

 

Log in, character creater is laggy. I say eh... well see.

First cutscene my guy is mixed in half with the water, so is the guy im talking too,,, khalides? sumthing like that.

I give it a chance and I adjust my settings to as good I can remember.... Does not do squat.

I go swimming and my character disappears. I swing my branch and my character bounces back and forth. I double tap dodge and he just teleports back a step... I have no clue what is going on. Again, I was running the game at nearly 40 fps with mainly med settings.... it was fluid, with of course the lag of big cities and zone transitions and such.... however for the most part it was good. before tortage gave me the best fps I ever got out of the game, now its giving me nothing.

did they just screw up the code? or does ati suck with the game now?

 

I don't know.... but after a few days I probably won't care right?

Game was patched (bigtime) like 24 hours ago, so it might have something to do with the case I`m afraid. Other ATI users have been reporting for problems too I think. perhaps this was a bad time to comeback on, all worked fine a week ago I think.

Choices you have: Try again, or wait a few weeks, then try again.

Check the AoC forums for this one. It is related to background downloading of code ingame to reduce the size of original download which cause the lag. For most people this seems to sort it self out after some time ingame.

You also might want to go to www.microsoft.com/directx and make sure you are current with directx. The last update was in September.

I play the game with a 3870 and have no problems. You might also check to see if you have updated audio drivers as well.

I would say that moral of the story is.

Darkfall badly needs more players so OP decided to promote it.

 Except and the OP and im trying to play AOC.... Dark Fall... eh, Im not a fan of FFA pvp with the noob squads coming to take everything I invested my time on. Im sure it has its own niche crowd who love it - and nothing against them, I just have different preferences. 

 

I ran aoc on the same computer.... so not clues about the direct x 10 thing however, I was running the client in direct x 9 as well.

 

It may be the new driver from ATI? I will see about reverting back, since I remember the game running very well on my current laptop. Either way if it refuses to work, funcom won't be getting my sub - its just the way things work.

Funcom fooled their customers almost 2 years ago. They have since then spent 1 year and 9 months trying to amend their mistake. I feel they have done a very good effort as the game right now is really nice.

Now, I would be more careful buying TSW than I would be buying AoC, as AoC now is live and you can easily find out how the game runs and plays. As for TSW it still lots of smokes and screens. The future will tell if they have learned from the launch of AoC.

 I've been playing AoC since BETA, there were definitely some rough months (the first 6 after launch)... but the game is SOLID now. The Guild Renown system now makes EVERY action mean something... you squish something in PvE, you just earned Valor points for your guild... you cut someone's head off in PvP, you just earned Glory points for your guild... you find a rare resource or create some gear, you just earned Artistry points for your guild... these points are tallyed into the Guild Renown points on a lifetime and weekly basis. There are weekly rankings by guild... and their are Guild Renown tiers, the higher the tier then it unlocks specials NPCs which travel to your guild city. You can then purchase exclusive items from the vendors... social items, pvp items, guild city decorations, etc. Add that to the exisiting PvE XP and PvP XP... and you have tons of content and reason for being active in Hyboria.

Also, AoC is designed for top end systems. You are going to be frustrated and the game will look like crap with your old card. You might check out Dofus. Or games that were released 5+ years ago.
