Inactive Aion Account Hacked this Morning

DarbiiRueDarbiiRue Member UncommonPosts: 832

Well my inactive Aion account was hacked this morning. I spent a whopping $70 or so on the collectors edition (thinking it would be a great game and all) and I had plans to go back and check out all the new stuff that they were adding in this year, only to turn on my computer this morning and find an e-mail telling me someone from some IP had changed my password while I slept.

I tried using the "Forget Password?" option, and thus far I cannot answer my questions correctly, it just tells me they're wrong. I didn't know it was possible to reset my questions, and my password was friggin big and it had letters and numbers, I am shocked that they could change it.

I've contacted NCSoft. I'm wondering if any of you had your account hacked; how long it took you guys to get your accounts reinstated? Right now I'm pretty pissed off and I'm pretty worried that that $70 account is lost forever. I mean I can provide NCSoft with even the game code I used to sign up... I'm hoping I am not going to be permanently fubared.

I have no idea. I mean seriously, my password is friggin hard. The only way they could have gotten in was to know my reset password questions, which happen to be what college I went to and what street address I grew up on, at least thats what they are now. Both of those are fairly obscure questions. However, when I put in the answers, they don't work anyway.

I'm pretty pissed at NCSoft for having such terrible security and having such horrible support. I mean seriously, two weeks?

Yah, check it out. I received an email telling me my Aion account was hacked also. Guess what, I have a forum account, I don't even own the stupid game!

Those hackers are out of control and these game companies are probably part of the problem. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is selling information.

From experience as a U.S. military retiree, all of my personal information has already been completely compromised by VA personnel.

It's not only the companies faults but lately hackers has started to go on rampage and I haven't heard anything legally was done or is being done on them.

Maybe they should improve internet security too because a game developer can't do everything alone when everyone's suffering these hacks imo.

    Splinki,

I too received an email regarding my account being hacked. Just an FYI though if you clicked on the link and followed the instructions then your password is taken for good. I would suggest going to Aions REAL site and changing it asap.

If you note the link that the Fake Email takes you to it's actually redirecting you to a hacking aion account site. Took me a couple seconds to realize it but it also helped that gmail placed it in the spam folder which gave me a red flag to begin with as real Aion Emails don't go to my spam folder. Just a heads up.

Looking at what is happening to WoW and now Aion, even other games but not brought up, something is very wrong with account security...

Sorry to say, but you fell for a phishing mail.

AionSouce was hacked a week back and every email address in their database has received this message (I had 3 actually). If you look closed at the URL you were referred to, you'll see it's not the official NCSoft website.

I hope your account won't be compromised too much and you'll be able to play Aion later on again.

    [EDIT]

Since my game accounts of NCSoft are all not active right now, I have even removed my craditcard info, just to be sure that in case of a hack I won' tpay the bill for it ;)

Its an email, it mocks ncsoft says your password has been changed and if you did not do it click the link to reset it back. If you mouse over the link you will realize it isnt an actual ncsoft website.

I got like 5 of these emails, just remember if you get an email like this go to the ncsoft site yourself do not follow any links.

BTW, I don't click on links in email nor do I buy game gold or go to any hacker or character rushing sites. I probably went to the Aion site twice to learn about the character classes.

I'm the last person on earth who should be hacked.

Thats why It is my opinion, there is inside information getting out of these companies.

Same thing with my World of Warcraft, Like a lot of other people I just recently started getting emailed about my account security from bogus sources; I can tell from the bad grammar and misspellings. The thing is, I closed my WoW account almost 2 years ago.

Phishing or your account info was sold to the gold spammers... also never use your game account pw for anything other than your game account. You never know when an intern (or site owner for that matter) will decide to make a fast buck by selling your gaming site info to a 3rd party... all the while claiming that the site was 'Hacked'.

Getting banned one account at a time!

    It isn't a phishing e-mail.

Someone at 66.197.150.234 has reset your Aion Game Account password for account [account name removed]. If you did not make this change, please contact support immediately at support@ncsoft.com.

That is the correct response from NCSoft when changing a password, I know because I have several of them in my past mail, as I've changed the password several times. The only difference is the IP #.

And on that particular note, I did not click a link in the e-mail, which is simply just an e-mail address. There are no directions in the e-mail, it is simply a notification. My password is indeed different and my password reset questions are not working.

This is NOT a phishing email.  The exact same thing happened to me.  The only "link" in the whole email is to contact support@ncsoft.com.  My account was also inactive, and the security questions were changed before I ever made it to their site.

I have never been hacked in over 10 years of online gaming.  While that may mean nothing to you, it means something to me.  Do a quick search for hacked Aion accounts.  The results will show you that this isn't an isolated event that only people enough stupid enough to click a link in an email would fall for.

There are serious problems over at NCSoft in terms of security.

To the OP:  Took me about 5 days of back and forth with their account support to get my account back.  Good luck.

Yeah, this is the first time in my 10 years of gaming that I've been hacked. The account questions didn't look like something I would choose, I found them rather strange. The fact that they can be changed in general, is a serious problem.

Hopefully they'll get back to me about the hacking on Monday. Glad I'm not the only one who received an e-mail like this, for some reason its rather comforting to know that others out there are being effed over too.

They seriously need to make some Aion account authenticators. That would greatly decrease the number of hackings... But NCSoft doesn't seem very smart about their security, so that will probably never happen. A lot of people are saying WoW accounts are getting hacked too but I wonder if those people have authenticators or not.

Is that the real IP address from the hacker??? Lol because this is the information on the IP address, I knew it looked familiar because it comes from the same state I live in.

    Lookup IP Address: 66.197.150.234

    General Information

    Hostname: 66-197-150-234.hostnoc.net

    ISP: Network Operations Center

    Organization: arbatek.net

    Proxy: None detected

    Type: Corporate

    Blacklist:

    Geo-Location Information

    Country: United States

    State/Region: PA

    City: Scranton

    Latitude: 41.4201

    Longitude: -75.6485

    Area Code: 570

It can also be traced back to Russia...which is where it bounces to from there.

Keep in mind, NCsoft  has had numerous cases of rogue or corrupt employees who sell information and create loop holes within the system to help the growing ASIAN billion dollar industry that is Gold Farming/Sell and Botting.

That said, chances are your game account and your NC account had the same user name and password. Never do that. Make sure they are completely different. The hackers have ways of getting your user name and password for the game, but not so much your account. HOWEVER, if your NC master account is the same as the game, then they have access to that.

Personally I think NCsoft needs to have a heavy lawsuit filed against them in order for them and their Asian counterparts to wake up and realize they need to take a stand against hacking, attacks, gold farmers and sellers. Korea recently legalized it, saying its a legit business and China has been helping the hacking and stealing scene for awhile. Even Google is threatening to leave China.

The whole mmorpg industry as we know it is under attack from certain groups in Asia and its very sad.... no its sick, and there is no sign that those asian nations will attack the problem instead of promoting it.

Okay this will be a two reply, Im sorry for double posting, but I need to answer two people.

Okay, Pryetta. Yes, this particular IP # in question was the one in the e-mail. I too am from PA, but we're down in Levittown, PA, which is far from Scranton. I find it interesting that you can trace that IP to Russia.

I dont have the number at hand but if you call their service directly you could probably get you account back within a day and if there isnt too much involved also get your stuff back within the next day. You should browse some aionsource threads the other number has been repeated there most times in threads like this one

I provided this thread with the exact e-mail I got from them, someone even backed me up as he had the exact same problem. Trust me, that part of this is definitely not my fault. It was not a phishing attempt, they got my account, there were no external links to other pages, it simply said some jackass got into my account and changed my password. All of my security questions have been changed as well.

I haven't got the program on my computer, because if you read the OP you'd see that I said my account was inactive, as in I'm not playing at the moment. Now, it is quite possible that I used the same logins for both my account and my game account, so that could be where I am at fault.

I can say with 100% certainty that no other accounts use this exact same setup, in relation to Aion. My AionSource account is completely different and I haven't got an account anywhere else regarding Aion. Just Aion Online and AionSource.

Unfortunately, the only number I have found is down until Monday, as they are not open for business on Saturday & Sunday. I have sent them an e-mail, as the hacked account e-mail told me to do. I will follow up with them on Monday, via phone.

All I have to say about all this is LOL. Seriously, I can't believe you all just think NCSoft can give out info like that. They can't even get the info as it's all encrypted.

Why do you think that when you forget a password they can't just give you the password, instead of having you make a new one?

  • avalon1000avalon1000 Member UncommonPosts: 791

After I cancelled my AION account I deleted my credit card info on my master account.  I am through with NC Soft and will not touch any  of their games.  I did not get hacked...I just came to the realization that NCSoft really does not know what they are doing and may be a less than above board game company.

I got the exact same e-mail, but noticed that it had spelling and grammar errors.  So I didn't click the link.  My password is still as I left it, it was not changed.  The letter also was in my junk mail.  My "legit" letters from NCSoft go right to my inbox.

How do they not know what they are doing? One person gets hacked and people just come up with conclusions about why? Find me proof that account info was collected from the inside and I will believe you. Until then, everyone bashing NCSoft because of a few people complaining about their accounts hacked shouldn't be how the company is viewed.

At least they are not Cryptic who likes to squeeze every penny out of you with their sub par games. NCSoft actually does a great job and actively listens to their player base.

No, I am not an NCSoft fanboy, just think its pathetic how people are so quick to judge based on someones unfortunate mistakes.
