I personally believe that this mission should not be available till level 5. I had to get use to the map system and I did not know where Memory Alpha was. The quest information confused me to begin with.
Now level 7 and back to the weekend to spend some quality time playing.
Much like many other MMOS, the rush from now till level 10 is on. At level 10 I have been told new ship options open up and the missions are cranked up a notch.
    We shall see.....

Your problems with the map system falls into a much broader category: The game lacks clear and accurate information; there's too much basic controls and such that you have to figure out on your own.

Since you are nearing Lt. Commander, let me give you a head's up: I am not sure if it is still the same or not, but up until the end of closed beta you became Lt. 11 and had to spend your character's skill points before you recieved you mission to achieve Lt. Commander.

This is still true. I just hit LT 11 and I ran straight to the shipyard expecting to pick up a new ship and I couldn't do it. So after awhile I decided to upgrade some skills and low and behold, a communication from Admiral Quinn comes thru with my promotion. I still never could figure out where that person was to do my promotion ceremony, but it is completely optional. The new ship was what I cared about.

The promotion ceremony is in the hall where you first find the Vulcan ambassador for the P'jem mission. He's the one at the podium.

Well as it looks like the server is down, I thought I would take this opportunity to update.

I did not know you can update your officers' armour/body.  I am learning a lot on my own, really I am :)

Level 9 and I seem to be going through a spat of exploration missions.  Fly around anomalies, investigate, mission done.  Was a bit boring to have three in a row...lol

I am trying to stay in one sector and do a set of missions and move on.  Unfortunately, that does not seem to be possible.  Either that or I am missing a huge quest chain.  I have changed ground tactics and have got a lot better at flanking, moving my officers to one location and firing from another.  Created a klingon character just to see the other side.

    Live long and prosper........

Oh really? That's interesting, and something I've never heard of; that someone that plays on average of 1-hour/session for 30 days is more qualified to render an opinion versus the experience of someone that plays on average of 2-hours/session for 15 days.

My ship is in need of some major upgrades.  The auction system is not great.  You can view 100 items at once but there is no way to change to "cheapest first" or sort by name.  I spent a lot of time working out what I needed, writing it down and then typing in the full name to find the cheapest.
If there is a better way, please someone tell me?
So everything on my ship is now "uncommon" loot, mk II.  Went out to Starbase 24 and killed some klingons.  Finally my DPS was a lot better.  The photon mines with tactical console upgrade is very useful.
I dont know how to craft so my bank is filling up with stuff I dont know what do with at the moment.

I found that doing the exploration missions and turning in the badges you get for doing them is a good way to get better gear. The badges can be traded in for ship gear  above the shipyard in ship requisition at the Earth Space Station. In there you can get better consoles, weapons, engines, shields, etc. They start off "green", then the higher levels like at around commander level you can get "blues". There are similar badge exchange vendors in the center of the Space Station, near the guy that starts the Memory Alpha quest. Those vendors accept exploration badges for personal gear like rifles, kits, etc..  Since the exploration missions are repeatable, it's a great (and cheap) way to keep your ship and self loaded with top gear. Hope that helps.
