refurbished pcs

My Girlfriend and I sold her laptop and we are looking to get her a desktop for around 400-450.

I don't know if we should go for this refurbished PC and throw in my old 8800gt and my old power supply or just build her a pc from scratch.

The only thing is, this refurbished PC comes with an OS and to build a PC from scratch will cost around 500-550 if we have to buy her a new OS and have around the same specs or slightly better specs as the refurbished PC.

What is your guys thoughts on a refurbished PC? Or any other options you guys  know about for a desktop for around 400-450.

Here is the refurbished PC.

Thanks.

This is actually really funny, I had my boss buy this exact PC for his wife and I had to set it up at their house recently.  They bought it instore and it was refurbished as well, and it was also marked down because the front disk drive panel had come off a bit.

Overall it is a solid PC, pretty speedy but for any actual gaming you will need to buy a new card or install that 8800gt.  You could actually build the same PC or a better one for slightly cheaper, the operating system isn't a problem entirely right now as you can use the latest build of windows 7 until  august or september now? around there somewhere? kind of like a free trial,  but if you don't want the hassle then this is a decent pc.

Thanks for the reply. We will prob go with that PC and add my 8800gt for now.

Did you happen to notice what motherboard was inside that PC when you set it up?

    Thanks.

Heh that would be funny if an Asus PC doesn't use an Asus mobo or at least an ASRock mobo. Guess that's the main reason Asus is spinning off their mobo division though.

I just checked it out on gamestop, and it seems to be a diff model.

The one from best buy is a intel core 2 quad and the one on game stop is a Pentium dual-core.

Sorry, I didn't. It was a basic install so I didn't open up the case or anything.  Just uninstalled some bloat ware and a wireless card.  I hope it works out for you though.
